NXT LVL Up Date: February 24, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Blake Howard, Byron Saxton It’s another LVL Up and again I’m not sure what to expect. The best formula around here seems to be having some midcard NXT stars in the main event and the younger stars filling in the rest of the show. That has worked well in the past, but you never know what direction the show is going to take. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Axiom vs. Kale Dixon Dixon works on the arm to start but Axiom reverses into an armbar of his own. A springboard kick to the side of the head drops Dixon but he’s right back with some clubbing forearms. They trade kicks to the ribs until Dixon gets two off a delayed vertical suplex. Axiom strikes his way out of a chinlock and there’s a high crossbody. The Golden Ratio finishes for Axiom at 4:35. Result: Axiom b. Kale Dixon – Golden Ratio (4:35) Myles Borne and Tank Ledger are different on paper but they can win together tonight..
NXT LVL Up Date: February 10, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Byron Saxton, Blake Howard So somehow, we’re coming off what was an actually entertaining episode last week. If they can keep up that energy this week, it should be another breeze of the show. What makes it more confusing is that it shouldn’t be hard to send in another middle of the road star to boost things up a bit. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. We meet new commentator Blake Howard. Tank Ledger vs. Kale Dixon They trade wristlocks to start until Ledger takes him down with an armbar. An armdrag sets up another armbar and a World’s Strongest Slam gives Ledger two. Dixon manages to send him into the corner though and a neckbreaker gets two. Ledger fights out of a chinlock and a cartwheel into a splash gets another near fall. The running powerslam finishes Dixon at 4:59. Result: Tank Ledger b. Kale Dixon – Running powerslam (4:59) Axiom isn’t sure how to deal with a masked man..
He’s in. The broadcast team is one of the most important parts of any wrestling company. The people calling the show are tasked with guiding the fans on the path that the company wants them to take, which can be rather complicated at times. WWE has quite the cast of commentators but every now and then they shake it up a bit. That is the situation again as a new voice is around. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: She’s Back: Former Champion Makes Surprise Return On SmackDown According to Fightful Select, WWE has hired Blake Chadwick to become part of its commentary team. Chadwick will join the NXT LVL Up broadcast team, where he will be paired with Byron Saxton under the name Blake Howard. Chadwick has done commentary on the wrestling independent scene, including with WrestleCade, Camp Leapfrog, VCW and the West Coast Wrestling Connection. He sounds different. Check out some of Chadwick’s first night in WWE: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..
Welcome to your new home. WWE has long since dominated the wrestling world but things have been changing a bit in recent years. The rise of AEW has shaken up the industry just a little bit, and while WWE is still the undisputed top company, AEW has offered wrestlers a new place to go that they might not have had before. It seems that is the case again with a former WWE wrestler. According to Fightful Select, former NXT star Blake Christian has signed with either AEW or Ring Of Honor. Christian, who previously wrestled in NXT under the name Trey Baxter, appeared at Ring Of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor event in July. He has also wrestled in a variety of other promotions, including GCW, New Japan Pro Wrestling and Impact Wrestling. There is no word on when he will wrestle for either promotion next. Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise as Christian is someone who has done some good things everywhere he has gone. It makes sense for AEW or Ring Of Honor to see what he can do under the..
Welcome back. Throughout history, there have been more wrestlers than can be reasonably counted. With so many names out there, it takes a lot to become a true star, but the names who are legends are at that level for a reason. You know a legend when you see one, and over the weekend, one of the legends of the modern era made his return to the ring for the first time in over two years. WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T. returned to the ring at the Summer Of Champions VIII event for his Reality Of Wrestling promotion. The match saw Booker T. team with the Mysterious Q, Bryan Keith, Blake Cortez and Gaspar Hernandez to face Team Sharmell. This was his first match since February 2020 when he wrestled in an eight man tag as GI Bro. There is no word on when his next match will take place. Got to step back in the ring last night at Reality of Wrestling and it felt GOODT! pic.twitter.com/43VmeFdOjz — Booker T. Ouch. There are all kinds of ways that wrestlers can get hurt and some of them can be rather devastating. Some of them can leave a wrestler on the sidelines for a long time, which can cause all kinds of other issues. A serious injury that leaves a wrestler hurt for a long time can mean some decisions have to be made about the future, which might be the case again. Over the weekend, NWA World Champion Matt Cardona posted a tweet saying that he thought he tore his bicep during a match against Blake Christian at a GCW event. Cardona has confirmed that he has since undergone an MRI and confirmed that his bicep has been torn and will require surgery. As a result, Cardona will be forced to miss some dates, though it is not known how long he will be out of action. It is also not known what will happen to the championships he currently holds. Got a MRI today. Bicep is torn. Surgery needed. Will unfortunately need to cancel some dates. — Matt Cardona (@TheMattCardona) May 31, 2022 Opinion: ..
Call it a reunion? There are a lot of wrestlers in the world today and it can be difficult for all of them to find a place to go. While WWE and AEW are often the goals for several wrestlers, there is not room for all of them there. That is where the independent promotions come in though and that is the case again, with several former WWE stars finding a new home. The new Wrestling Entertainment Series promotion has announced its debut card, which will take place on June 4 in at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England. The show will feature four title matches and several former names from WWE. Wrestling Entertainment Series is owned by former Raw Tag Team Champions the Authors of Pain, who will be wrestling on the show under the name Legion Of Pain. Here is the full card: * World Championship Match: Adam Scherr vs. Alistair Overeem * World Women’s Championship Match: Lina Fanene vs. CJ Perry * World Tag Team Championship Match: Legion of Pain vs. Westin Blake & Steve Maclin * Kill..
Welcome back. There are a lot of reasons a wrestler might miss time from the ring. It might be due to a wrestler needing a break or it might be an injury, but sometimes it could be something a lot more serious. That was the case with one of the biggest stars in AEW, who needed to take some time off to deal with some personal issues. Now though, we know when he is returning to the ring. Back in November 2021, AEW’s Jon Moxley entered a rehabilitation center for alcohol related issued. As a result, he has been absent from the ring and television ever since. Now though, Game Changer Wrestling has announced that Moxley will be returning to the ring to defend the GCW World Title against Homicide on January 23. There is no word on when Moxley will be returning to AEW television. *BREAKING* Just Signed for #TheWrldOnGCW: *GCW World Title Match* MOX vs 187 Plus: Janela vs Cardona Allie vs Ruby Gresham vs Blake Team Bandido vs Team Gringo Watch LIVE on PPV or @FiteTV:https://t.co/DT2a5ab..
It’s for real this time. According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Samoa Joe has been released by WWE. This is the second time in eight months that Joe has been let go by the company. However, Joe was rehired the same day and made his return to NXT shortly afterward. In August of 2021, Joe would become the NXT Champion after defeating Karrion Kross at TakeOver 36. However, due to injury, he was forced to vacate the title on September 12, and was not seen on WWE television again following that. Check out what happened after Joe won the title: [This post contains vi..
He’s up next? Stables are one of those ideas that will always work in wrestling because fans are going to like the idea of several wrestlers coming together in a group. A new stable can offer a variety of new options, as the individual members can bring their individual stories together, or come into a group under one idea. It seems that a new group has already started growing fairly soon after its debut. Last weekend, a new group debuted at Ring of Honor’s Final Battle event, consisting of EC3, Westin Blake (formerly known as Wesley Blake), Adam Scherr (formerly known as Braun Strowman) and an unnamed wrestler. Scherr has since posted an image to his Instagram, showing himself, EC3 and Killer Kross, standing in front of a graphic saying “CONTROL YOUR NARRATIVE”, which is EC3’s catchphrase. Kross’ no compete clause does not end until February 2022, but he has already begun accepting bookings. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Adam Scherr (@adamscherr99) This team could be..
Those are some big names. Ring of Honor is wrapping things up, at least in their best known version. That is going to be a sad moment for the wrestling world as there are all kinds of stars from throughout the company’s history around the wrestling world today. There is still one show left though, and it had more than a few surprise appearances taking place. There were multiple surprise appearances at Ring of Honor’s Final Battle event over the weekend. First, EC3 debuted a new stable, featuring Titan (formerly known as Braun Strowman) and Westin Blake (formerly known as Wesley Blake in WWE). Later in the show, the Briscos won the Ring of Honor Tag Team Titles. Following the match, FTR ran in and attacked the Briscos, teasing a future match between the teams. The two teams have been feuding on Twitter in recent weeks. It was a heck of a night. I guess you can see him. On last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live, John Cena made an unexpected cameo in a sketch featuring host Kim Kardashian West. In the sketch ‘The Dream Guy”, Kardashian chooses from a number of eligible bachelors, including Cena, in a parody of The Bachelorette. You can see the sketch in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] Along with Cena, several other celebrities made cameos, including Chace Crawford, Tyler Cameron, Blake Griffin, Chris Rock, Amy Schumer and Jesse Williams. It has been a busy summer for the leader of the CeNation, who was with WWE from Money in the Bank all the way through his match with Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam 2021. It’s something else to do. There are so many wrestlers on the WWE roster that it is hard to find something for everyone. That has been the reason for several releases over the course of the last year and a half, with some names not being the biggest surprises. Several WWE wrestlers had a reputation for never leaving catering, but it turns out that one of them was doing quite a few other things. According to Fightful Select, Bo Dallas had been doing several other jobs outside of the ring before being released on April 15. Dallas was working in the production end of the company, including working with cameras, lighting and live events, occasionally with Wesley Blake. Both were released on the same day, after Blake had not wrestled since May 2020 and Dallas how not wrestled since November 2019. These two could have done some more things. Check out both of them, plus some of where they might have been helping: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click ..
The cuts continue. According to a report by Bleacher Report, by way of Fightful, WWE has come to terms on the releases of several wrestlers. This list includes Tyler Breeze, Fandango, NXT tag team Ever-Rise and 205 Live wrestlers Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari and August Grey. Fandango, who also wrestled for WWE as Johnny Curtis, seemed to acknowledge his release in the following tweet: Thank you @VinceMcMahon @TripleH @StephMcMahon Thank you for the last 14 years . I truly appreciate it!? — Fandango (@WWEFandango) June 25, 2021 This most recent wave of cuts, continues a trend that has been happening for a few months. Several releases have taken place during this time, including Tucker, Samoa Joe, Chelsea Green, Kalisto, Bo Dallas, Wesley Blake, Mickie, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Ruby Riott, Lana, Santana Garrett and Buddy Murphy. Adnan Virk and Tom Philips have also been released by the company. Breezango was pretty entertaining as a team: [This post ..
Welcome home. While WWE is the biggest and most prestigious wrestling promotion in the world, they are not the only place available. Over the last few years, the amount of wrestling promotions on national television or available online have grown quite a bit, meaning wrestlers can appear in several more places. Another former WWE star is getting the chance to show off what he can do elsewhere. This week’s edition of Impact Wrestling featured a vignette announcing the impending debut of Steve Maclin, better known as Steve Cutler during his time in WWE. Maclin is shown drinking Jameson whiskey and putting his feet on a desk as a song talks about taking your chance while you have the opportunity. There was no date given for his debut or anything else about him. Maclin was released by WWE earlier this year after a short time as part of the SmackDown roster. He had been part of a tag team with Wesley Blake called the Forgotten Sons, which was later changed to the Knights of the Lone Wolf ..
What could be. While it might not be as popular as it was before, there is no denying that WWE is still the biggest and most successful wrestling promotion in the world today. They have more exposure and more fans watching their product than anyone else, meaning that a wrestler working for them is going to get a lot of exposure. That status can continue even after they leave, and now a company is teasing some upcoming appearances. Impact Wrestling has released a new ad teasing appearances from Daniel Bryan, the IIconics and the Forgotten Sons for Slammiversary on July 17. The video features a series of fast paced images, including the word YES (Bryan), the letters II (IIconics) and “Forgotten” (Forgotten Sons, Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake). All of these wrestlers have left WWE in recent weeks and would be available to appear at the show as their no compete clauses would have expired. This is an updated version of a similar video that Impact Wrestling releases a few weeks ago, which ..
What could have been. Earlier this month, WWE released nine wrestlers from their contracts, which offered quite the shakeup to the company’s roster. These releases came fairy out of nowhere though and that means there were chances for something else to happen. Now those plans will not be realized, but we do know what one of them might have been. According to Fightful Select, prior to his release from the company, WWE was considering reuniting Wesley Blake with his NXT tag team partner Buddy Murphy. The two had been meeting with WWE creative to come up with a way to reintroduce them to WWE programming but nothing ever took place. The idea came about after Blake’s other partner, Steve Cutler, was released from the company in January. Blake and Murphy appeared together in NXT, where they were managed by Alexa Bliss. The two won the NXT Tag Team Titles in January 2015 and held them for over seven months. Following their loss, the two failed to recapture their titles and ultimately split,..
That’s a little better. Tag teams have been a part of wrestling for a long time now and that will be the case for the foreseeable future. However, some promotions present them in a better way than others and WWE does not have the best history with them. The company rather enjoys splitting teams up, and that seems to be the case again, albeit for a rather different reason. Earlier this year, the Forgotten Sons were called up to SmackDown and immediately made an impact. The team got involved with the New Day soon after they debuted and seemed ready to be moved on to something bigger in a hurry. However, that did not wind up happening though as Jaxson Ryker made some controversial statements, resulting in the team being pulled from television. The other members, Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake, have been away as well, but that might be changing soon. According to Fightful.com, WWE has added Cutler and Blake back to their internal roster while Ryker has been left off. This would mean that ..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? WrestleCade 2018 Supershow Date: November 24, 2018 Location: Benton Convention Center, Winston-Salem, North Carolina Commentators: Blake Chadrick, Cyrus Fees So this is kind of like WrestleCon Thanksgiving with a big wrestling convention and a few shows, including this supershow. I’ve wanted to go down to this for a few years but I might as well take a look at the major show. This could be anywhere from great to horrible and it’s hard to guess one way or another. Let’s get to it. National Anthem. ..
