She kind of has a point. Women’s wrestling in WWE has come a very long way in the last few years, as the division has gone from little more than a side show to one of the company’s featured attractions. There are more women’s titles and stars being given a chance than ever before, but that does not mean everyone is pleased. One of the bigger stars in the division has something to say about her colleagues. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: WWE Superstar Continues To Show Change In Attitude This week’s SmackDown featured Shayna Baszler, with Ronda Rousey, defeating Natalya, with Tegan Nox. The match marked the first time that Nox and Natalya had worked together, with a vignette showing them setting up their newly formed partnership earlier in the day. Following the show, Rousey took to Twitter to say the SmackDown women’s tag team division consists of Natalya and anyone she can find that week. Rousey also criticized WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Damage Ctrl of not defending their titles. ..
To the other side. With so much television time to fill in WWE, it can be easy for some of the company’s stars to start feeling stale. At some point a change needs to be made and that can be accomplished in a few different ways. One of the easiest is to turn someone either from good to bad or vice versa, and it seems that we saw that take place earlier this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It Fits: Important Details On Next WWE Event In Saudi Arabia, Possible AEW Competition Following the February 10 SmackDown, WWE released a video of Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio backstage after they both took part in a fatal four way. The two talked about respect and exchanged masks. This week, the two were backstage when Rhea Ripley and Rey’s son Dominik interrupted and insulted Rey. Escobar defended Rey and seemed to set up a match with Dominik. This would indicate that Escobar is moving further towards a full babyface turn, which would be a first in his WWE career. There is no word on what this wo..
NXT Date: February 14, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Booker T., Vic Joseph It’s Valentine’s Day and that is not likely to mean much of anything here. We are about a month and a half away from Stand & Deliver and Carmelo Hayes is looking like a strong option to go after Bron Breakker’s NXT Title. Other than that, NXT has some work to do so let’s get to it. In Memory Of Jerry Jarrett. Grayson Waller vs. Tyler Bate Waller takes him to the rope to start the choking, while shouting that Shawn Michaels bet on the wrong horse. Bate grabs his own foot and swings it into Waller’s face, followed by a dropkick for two. A quick shot lets Waller grab a cravate with the knee to the face getting two more. The back and forth continues as Bate runs him over and hits a standing shooting star press for his own near fall. They go outside with Booker going on his latest long winded rant about how attitude will get you to Wrestlemania. Waller slides back in and ..
He has earned it. There have been a lot of wrestlers over the years and many of them do not stand out for the most part. It takes someone special to receive additionally positive treatment but in most cases, they have earned the status. That was the case last week when an all time great made a return, and now we know just how differently he was treated upon return. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Even Them? How WWE Is Going Incredibly Far To Protect Uncle Howdy’s Secret The main event of last week’s SmackDown saw John Cena return for his first match of the year, teaming with Kevin Owens to defeat Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s booking of Cena was “very carefully done” This included keeping Cena out of the ring for most of the match, as he had not wrestled in over a year, and making sure that he looked strong and hit the Attitude Adjustment. There is no word on when Cena is expected back in the ring, but WWE has been working on WrestleMania pl..
Impact Wrestling Date: January 5, 2023 Location: Charles F. Dodge City Center, Pembroke Pines, Florida Commentators: Matthew Rehwoldt, Tom Hannifan We’re back after last week’s Best Of 2022 event with the first show of 2023. That means we are just over a week away from Hard To Kill and the card is mostly set. There is always room for a little more effort though and now we might be getting to do just that. If nothing else, getting some of the lower card built up should help so let’s get to it. In Memory Of Don West. Opening recap. Masha Slamovich vs. Taylor Wilde Deonna Purrazzo is on commentary. Wilde is in all black and apparently has a new attitude, as seen on Before The Impact. Purrazzo doesn’t think much of Wilde’s resume, asking how long it has been since Wilde was a champion. Fair enough really, as it was a long time ago. They grapple to the mat to start with Slamovich spinning out of a wristlock into an armbar. Wilde avoids a charge in the corner though and some choking has..
They have a plan for that. WWE is a company that makes a lot of money in a lot of ways, but there are a few revenue streams that crush just about anything else. One of the most important is the company’s deal with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which brings a fortune in to WWE for a pair of annual shows. WWE occasionally does more than this, and now we know a bit more about the next show. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Clip From Attitude Era WWF Live Event Featuring All-Star Lineup According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s next Saudi Arabian show will take place in May. There are currently no details on known regarding a show name or theme. This would be WWE’s first event in the Kingdom in May, as the events have recently been run in February and then again in the fall. WWE’s most recent event, Crown Jewel 2022, took place on November 5. WWE has done a lot in Saudi Arabia. Check out some of what they have done in the country over the years: [This post contains video, click..
It’s famous for a reason. There have been several different eras throughout the history of wrestling and some of those times are better known than others. Some of them are easily identifiable by a single word, with one of the most famous of WWE’s history being “Attitude”. The period of the late 1990s to early 2000s is still talked about today, but now we can see something we probably haven’t before. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s Next: Former WWE Star Believes Goldberg “Has A Thumb On” Him WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle has released a rare video from an Attitude Era WWE live event. The clip features Triple H, Chris Benoit, The Rock, Steve Austin, Rikishi and Angle in a six way test of strength before a fight breaks out. While Angle did not give a date for the show, according to Cagematch.de, the only time these six were together in a non-televised match was October 29, 2000 in Buffalo, New York. That’s rather cool. Check out what happened in the match, plus some more of these wrestlers i..
Now there’s a tease. WWE has a long history of stars on its roster but there are times when they need to bring someone new into the fold. That can be easier said than done, but one of the best things that they can do is have a legend give a rub to an up and coming star. Now it seems that WWE is laying the groundwork for such a change on the biggest stage around. Mr. Money in the Bank Austin Theory made a surprise appearance this week on SmackDown. During the show, Michael Cole praised Theory’s abilities, but said that he needed “an attitude adjustment”. This would seem to continue to point to a future match between Theory and John Cena, which has been rumored since Cena and Theory had a backstage confrontation earlier this year on Monday Night Raw. Opinion: This is something that seems to have been set up more than once and it wouldn’t surprise me to see the match take place at WrestleMania 39. Cena is known for working with some of the up and coming stars and Theory could certainly ..
That would be a change. There are different ways to freshen up a star in wrestling and some of them are rather simple concepts. One of the best ways is to turn someone from bad to good or vice versa, as such a change can freshen someone up almost immediately. It changes everything around and can give a wrestler a different attitude. Now a top WWE star is interested in making such a switch. Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre appeared on NBC Boston’s The Ten Count podcast and discussed the possibility of a heel turn. McIntyre said that if he were to ever turn heel again, he would not want to be the angry big man again. Instead, McIntyre wants to educate himself on who he is and be more interested the second time around. McIntyre was speaking hypothetically and there is nothing to indicate that McIntyre will be turning anytime soon. Opinion: This is something that does seem to be a possibility down the line and it is something that could go well if that is what WWE decides to do. McIntyr..
They might need counseling. There are a lot of wrestling promotions throughout the world and some of them are rather prominent. These are the promotions that have been around for a very long time now and a lot of people have heard of them over the years. It turns out that the modern version of one of the most famous promotions in history might not be going so well. On August 28, the NWA will present its 74th anniversary show, featuring Tyrus challenging Trevor Murdoch for the NWA World Title. This comes after NWA owner Billy Corgan pulled Nick Aldis from the match. The two have both commented on the situation, with Corgan blaming Aldis’ attitude. According to PWInsider.com, there is some truth to the storyline comments, as Aldis has been critical of Corgan’s creative direction of the NWA. This has resulted in heat on Aldis for promoting himself as bigger than the NWA itself. Aldis is still expected to wrestle at the show with a new opponent to be named. ?? JUST ANNOUNCED: @Billy has ..
Flash from the past. WWE has been around for a very long time now and the company has a rather incredible history. Over time, there have been a lot of different periods and eras, some of which are a lot more famous than others. There have been some very famous ones though, and WWE seemed to be interested in bringing back something that likely would have only fit in one era. In a new interview with NBC Sports’ Boston Steve, former WWE star Killer Kross talked about an idea he had pitched to revive the Corporate Ministry. Kross felt that the idea would work due to nostalgia and said that there was a group of writers on board with the concept. The idea would have been to fictionalize the idea of cults and evil businesses and put them on television with nostalgia thrown in. There is nothing to suggest that the idea ever went past the planning stage. Opinion: I’m not sure I could imagine this working, as the Corporate Ministry is about as Attitude Era as you could get. While I get the ide..
The battle continues. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between John Cena and Kevin Owens for the United States Championship from Battleground 2015. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: After absorbing some serious punishment from K.O. in the early goings of this anticipated rubber match, Cena caught Owens with an Attitude Adjustment, a maneuver that somehow only garnered a two-count. With frustration beginning to set in, Cena attempted to go high-risk, taking the challenger to the top rope for a superplex. Anticipating Cena’s next move, Owens reversed the maneuver, sending The Champ crashing down hard on his left shoulder. Cena reeled following that sickening impact, but this fight was far from finished. Dazed and visibly pained, Cena evaded a Pop-up Powerbomb from his opportunistic foe and again went for the Attitude Adjustment. However, Owens quickly countered with..
When legends collide, you know it’s going to be good. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel, showing the full match between Roman Reigns and John Cena for the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam 2021. The end of this match also featured the return of Brock Lesnar since Reigns allied himself with Paul Heyman. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Cena seemed to have found a spark by lining up for an Attitude Adjustment, but Reigns shrugged him off. The Universal Champion talked trash to Cena and all of Hollywood as the beatdown continued, but Cena never gave up, mounting a comeback after escaping from a sleeper hold. Cena connected with a Five Knuckle Shuffle and an Attitude Adjustment, but Reigns miraculously kicked out. Even Heyman was bewildered, mouthing, “Oh my God.” A second AA through the announce table pushed Reigns to the brink again, but the Universal Champion improbably kicked out, causing a..
The rematch the world wanted to see. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the match between John Cena and Kevin Owens from Money in the Bank 2015. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Even as Cena took control in the opening moments, the prize fighter’s hubris never wavered, commenting mid-match on Cena’s tough early attack: “How’d that work out for you last time?” Owens backed up his trash talk further by hitting Cena’s signature combination — a pair of shoulder blocks, side slam and 5-Knuckle Shuffle. Cena wouldn’t stay down, though. He battled through Owens’ hard-hitting punches and slam with resiliency that would have made any fan of the hometown Blue Jackets smile. When Cena hoisted Owens into position for an Attitude Adjustment, adding a “You can’t see me” taunt for good measure, it seemed academic. Then Owens powered out of the pinfall at a late two, and the Cenation leader nea..
Sometimes you need a change. There are all kinds of ways to present a wrestler with one gimmick after another. Some of these are ideas that you have seem more than once over the years but that is not a terrible thing. Sometimes you might need to see a change of some sort. That seems to be the case again as a WWE star has changed up the way they are presented. This week’s edition of SmackDown featured the return of Madcap Moss after a three week absence, following Happy Corbin attacking him. Moss returned and said he was no longer telling jokes but rather here to get revenge on Corbin. In addition to Moss’ change in attitude, his gear had also changed, with the suspenders gone in exchange of a regular pair of short. This was a success. Check out the return: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is something that had to be done if Moss is going to move up the ladder whatsoever. The Madcap name needs to go as well, but just changing his appearance and getting rid of..
The champ has been here for a long time. WWE has announced that June 2022 will be John Cena month and that the company will be celebrating the superstar to honor the 20th anniversary of his debut. You can see his debut match below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: WWE was forever changed on June 27, 2002, when a then-unknown powerhouse by the name of John Cena stormed onto SmackDown for the very first time. Answering an open challenge issued by Kurt Angle, Cena boldly declared himself an agent of “ruthless aggression” before paint-brushing The Olympic Gold Medalist across the face. The rest, as they say, is history. Sixteen World Title reigns, countless Attitude Adjustments, and numerous Hollywood blockbusters later, Cena’s debut remains a watershed moment in sports-entertainment lore, the introduction of arguably the biggest Superstar of the modern era, if not WWE history. In honor of the upcoming 20-year anniversary of that seminal night, WWE is paying ..
I remember him. There have been so many wrestlers throughout the years that it can be difficult to remember all of them. All kinds of stars come and go with little to no impact, but there are some that stand out for one reason or another. That is the case with a bunch of stars from WWE’s Attitude Era and another one was back this week, albeit for a completely different company. Former WWE star Gangrel made a surprise appearance this week on AEW Rampage, accompanying the Young Bucks to the ring for their match. This was part of a Young Bucks parody of the Hardys, who Gangrel briefly managed in WWE as the New Brood. Following the match, the Bucks attacked Gangrel but the Hardys ran in for the save. There is nothing to suggest that this is anything more than a one off appearance. This was hilarious. Check out the surprise cameo: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of a cameo that works very well, as a wrestler like Gangrel does have enough of a connect..
That would be a problem. There are two different worlds in wrestling and only one of them takes place in front of the camera. In addition to what happens in front of an audience, there is everything that happens when the cameras are off. That can include backstage issues between the wrestlers and we might have seen one of them take place in front of our eyes. According to Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio, there may be some backstage heat on CM Punk in AEW. The two both cited the promo exchange between Punk and Hangman Page this week on Dynamite, saying that it felt like the Shawn Michaels/Bret Hart exchanges from the Attitude Era. This is seen as speculation as the two did not say that there were definite issues between the two or heat on Punk for that matter. Opinion: That is quite a bit to infer off of a single exchange. There is a very real chance that AEW was trying to make the segment feel more like a worked shoot, which means that they did very well. M..
There’s a flashback. Stables are something that have done a lot of good for wrestling over the years. Putting a group of wrestlers together under a common banner is something that has worked for a long time and it continues to do so to this day. There have been some very interesting ones over the years but now one of the lesser remembered ones has made a brief comeback. The New Brood had a reunion in a tag match at a Big Time Wrestling event on Saturday night in Prince George, Virginia. The match saw the Hardys faced Gangrel and Joey Janela, who billed themselves as the New New Brood. Gangrel and the Hardys teamed together in 1999 in the WWF against Edge and Christian, the former members of Gangrel’s Brood. Following the match, Gangrel and the Hardys posed together as part of the reunion. The New Brood has REUNITED. pic.twitter.com/5vH1ZGURN4 — MATT HARDY (@MATTHARDYBRAND) May 15, 2022 Opinion: This is one of those things that came out of nowhere and was good for a nice smile, as t..
