REVIEW: WrestleMania 29: Round Two

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Wrestlemania XXIX Date: April 7, 2013 Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey Attendance: 80,676 Commentators: Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, John Bradshaw Layfield It’s Rock vs. John Cena II and I don’t think you need to hear anything else about the main event. With that match out of the way, the biggest name left is the Undertaker, who will be facing CM Punk in a match that might have been better had it been for the title. This time it’s personal though, as Paul Bearer had recently passed away, leaving ..

REVIEW: WrestleMania 7: Stars And Stripes And More Stars

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Wrestlemania VII Date: March 24, 1991 Location: Los Angeles Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California Attendance: 16,158 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan It’s the Gulf War show, as Hulk Hogan is fighting to get the WWF Title back from former American hero turned Iraqi sympathizer Sgt. Slaughter. If that sounds like one of the worst ideas for a Wrestlemania main event ever, you have quite the memory for these things. Other than that we have Randy Savage vs. Ultimate Warrior in a match that actually belongs i..

Down The List: Omos Was Far From The First Choice For Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania Opponent

Not the first? We are just over four weeks away from WrestleMania 39 and the card is starting to come together. You can see a lot of the show from here and several matches have already been announced for the card. That makes for some interesting moments, but it can also be interesting to see what else didn’t happen. Now we have a better idea of what we missed. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: LOOK: Solo Sikoa Gets Married, Several WWE Stars In Attendance This week on Monday Night Raw, Brock Lesnar agreed to face Omos at WrestleMania 39. According to Fightful Select, there were multiple matches pitched for Lesnar before Omos was chosen as his WrestleMania opponent. These names included Gunther, Bobby Lashley (who Lesnar had been feuding with on and off for over a year) and Bray Wyatt. There is no word on why the previous matches were called off or how far Omos was down on the list. Lesnar is quite the monster. Check out what he can do when he is around: [This post contains video, click to pla..

LOOK: Solo Sikoa Gets Married, Several WWE Stars In Attendance

That’s worth celebrating. There are all kinds of wrestlers on the WWE roster and they portray several different characters. Watching any given WWE show offers a big mixture of different looks, styles and personae, but it can be fascinating to see them mix together. One thing they all have in common is that they do other things once the cameras stop rolling, which was the case in a big way recently. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Vince McMahon Pushed WrestleMania 39 Match Onto Card As shown in a series of photos on Instagram, WWE Superstar Solo Sikoa has announced that he got married over the weekend. The photos include shots of the Usos and Naomi at the ceremony. There is no word on any other wrestlers possibly being in attendance. Solo is part of the Anoa’i wrestling family, along with current WWE Superstars the Usos and Roman Reigns. REVIEW: No Way Out 2000: The Other Cell Match

No Way Out 2000 Date: February 27, 2000 Location: Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, Connecticut Attendance: 12,551 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler This is more or less about one thing: Hell in a Cell. If Cactus Jack loses, he retires. Other than that there isn’t a lot to talk about. Oh actually there is. At the Rumble, Big Show had been thrown out but claimed that Rock was out first. Tonight there’s a match where the winner goes to Mania. The Radicals are here now also so we have a fully fleshed out roster for th..

Mercedes Mone Wins First Championship In NJPW

Call her a champion. Mercedes Mone, known as Sasha Banks in WWE, has won her first championship as a member of the NJPW roster. She defeated Kairi for the IWGP Women’s Championship at NJPW’s Battle in the Valley show in San Jose, California. From Bleacher Report: NJPW sold out tickets to Battle in the Valley after Kairi vs. Mercedes Moné was announced and it showed as the crowd erupted as it began. It was the loudest the audience in attendance got all night. Mone entered the arena wearing new gear as a tribute to the late Hana Kimura. You could see how much she reveres Japanese wrestling, and how much this moment means to her. The former WWE star hasn’t wrestled since May 13, 2022, but she hasn’t missed a beat. The Blueprint dominated early on with the crowd behind her, but Kairi came roaring back. It looked like the champion could retain when she locked in the Ikari, but Mone fought out and cinched in her trademark crossface. Then, Kairi hit her staggering spinning back fist to f..

REVIEW: No Way Out 2006: The Dream Match

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. No Way Out 2006 Date: February 19, 2006 Location: 1st Mariner Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Attendance: 11,000 Commentators: Michael Cole, Tazz For the first time in a long time, we have a pay per view that has my interest. Smackdown has gotten a lot better in a hurry, but they need the big spectacular to make it work. With Wrestlemania coming up, this could be a great way to get the momentum going, and hopefully that’s what happens here. I’m sure Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton and Booker T. vs...

REVIEW: Royal Rumble 2003: When The Rumble Doesn’t Mean As Much

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Royal Rumble 2003 Date: January 19, 2003 Location: Fleet Center, Boston, Massachusetts Attendance: 15,338 Commentators: Michael Cole, Tazz, Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler This is a really odd entry in the series as the namesake match is being treated as secondary to almost everything else. Really, coming into this show, there’s a good argument to be made that Torrie Wilson vs. Dawn Marie is being treated as a bigger deal than the Rumble itself. Let’s get to it. The opening video is your standard montage of w..

They Did It: WWE Announces All Time Record Set By This Week’s Monday Night Raw

Thirty years in the making! Wrestling is a lot of things, but ultimately it is a business, with the main idea being to get people to watch. Without fans watching, there is not going to be much of a future to the place. Drawing an audience is what matters most at the end of the day and now the biggest wrestling company in the world has set a new record when it comes to drawing in money through fans. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Other One: Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar Reportedly Pitched For WrestleMania 39 This week’s edition of Monday Night Raw marked thirty years of the show, with the event being held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. WWE has announced that the show has set an all time record for the highest domestic gate in the history of Monday Night Raw. There was no word on the gate or the previous record, though commentary did announce a live attendance of 16,975. It was a special show. Royal Rumble 2017 Date: January 29, 2017 Location: Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas Attendance: 52,020 Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton, Mauro Ranallo, John Bradshaw Layfield, David Otunga, Tom Phillips It’s kind of amazing how much this show has been forgotten in just about a year. Other than AJ Styles vs. John Cena, I can barely remember a single thing about this show. I know who won the Rumble and who were some of the bigger stars in the match but the rest is kind of a blur, which isn’t a good s..

It’s Broken: AEW Sets New Record With This Week’s AEW Dynamite

Nice job. AEW has grown by leaps and bounds since its debut less than four years ago. The company has already seen all kinds of new stars and traditions begin, including going to some rather large markets. That was the case earlier this week as the company took Dynamite to Los Angeles. While the show’s attendance might not have been a record, they did manage to break one important record. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Title Time! Who Left AEW Dynamite As The Trios Champions? This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite was held at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, California. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the show set a record for the most day of show walk up ticket sales in AEW history. While some of the original advances for the show were seen as “bad”, the eventual attendance was described as “healthy” and over a $700,000 gate for the event. It was a busy night. Check out the better parts of the event: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..

REVIEW: Royal Rumble 1991: That’s Not Very Patriotic

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Royal Rumble 1991 Date: January 19, 1991 Location: Miami Arena, Miami, Florida Attendance: 16,000 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Roddy Piper So it’s 1991 now and the US is at war (kind of). Therefore, the main event here, other than the Rumble of course, is Warrior defending the world title against Slaughter. This is a major changeover from the old Rumble formula which was a bunch of nothing matches followed by the big battle royal to close the show. Well at least on PPV that is. This would become the norm after this..

REVIEW: Royal Rumble 1992: Fair To Flair

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Royal Rumble 1992 Date: January 19, 1992 Location: Knickerbocker Arena, Albany, New York Attendance: 17,000 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan It’s time to get back to one of the classics as this one comes up on the request list pretty regularly. Since this is going to be my fourth time looking at it, odds are this is going to be the last time I look at it for a very good while. You probably know the big attraction by heart at this point and that should be more than enough to carry the whole thing. Let’s ..

REVIEW: New Year’s Revolution 2005: It’s Time For A Change

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. New Year’s Revolution 2005 Date: January 9, 2005 Location: Coliseo de Puerto Rico, San Juan, Puerto Rico Attendance: 15,764 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler We’re back on pay per view to start the new year and it’s a one match show. This time around that’s the Elimination Chamber for the vacant World Title with Shawn Michaels as guest referee to annoy everyone. Other than that…there is nothing on this show worth anything whatsoever. Let’s get to it. The opening video starts by talking about how awesome Puerto Ri..

It Was Messy: Four Top Stars Miss WWE Live Event In “Complete Nightmare”

It can happen to anyone. There are all kinds of events on WWE’s calendar every year, as the company runs its shows all over the country. Some of them are not held in front of television cameras and are just there for the live fans in attendance. That can make for some special moments, but a recent show was memorable for some rather negative reasons. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Could Be Awhile: Missing AEW Star Addresses Absence From Company This past Monday, WWE ran a pair of live events on the same night, with one show taking place in New York City while the other was held in Columbus, Ohio. However, according to PWInsider.com, several stars missed the Columbus event due to travel issues. Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Bobby Lashley and Alexa Bliss all missed the show. In addition, according to Fightful Select, several other talents were late to the event. The show’s main event had to be changed from Rollins vs. Austin Theory to Theory vs. Damian Priest vs. Johnny Gargano for the US Title. ..

Starrcade 1998 Date: December 27, 1998 Location: MCI Center, Washington, D.C. Attendance: 16,066 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, Bobby Heenan It’s the biggest show of the year and I don’t know how many people know about it. I don’t remember the same show feeling so different just a year later. Last year Starrcade felt like an event rather than just a wrestling show. This year it feels like it could be a Clash of the Champions TV special instead of the biggest show of the year. I have a very ..

REVIEW: New Year’s Revolution 2006: He Did It Before

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. New Year’s Revolution 2006 Date: January 8, 2006 Location: Pepsi Arena, Albany, New York Attendance: 11,000 Commentators: Joey Styles, Jonathan Coachman We’ve got a one match show here and that doesn’t exactly instill me with confidence. This show is all about the Elimination Chamber, with John Cena defending the Raw World Title against five challengers. The only other match of note on the card is Big Show vs. HHH, but it’s a far cry from the main event. Let’s get to it. The opening video only focuses on the Chamber..

Mayhem 2000 Date: November 26, 2000 Location: Wisconsin Center Arena, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Attendance: 3,800 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Stevie Ray, Mark Madden These dying days of WCW are a scary place. Things are about as bad as they’ve been since Russo left, including a rather uninteresting main event of Booker T. defending his World Title against Scott Steiner (again) in a match that really isn’t the biggest secret. Let’s get to it. We open with Booker arriving and being mobbed by the fans that..

REVIEW: Starrcade 2000: Scott Steiner Is A Scary Man

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Starrcade 2000 Date: December 17, 2000 Location: MCI Center, Washington, D.C. Attendance: 6,596 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mark Madden, Scott Hudson We’ve uh…..arrived. It’s the final edition of WCW’s flagship show and it’s looking somewhere between a bad C show and a horribly unfunny joke. The main event is Scott Steiner (won the title three weeks ago) defending against Sid Vicious (not in the promotion three weeks ago). Such is life in the dying days of this company. Let’s get to it. Before we s..
