“The Genius” Lanny Poffo Passes Away At Age 68

We have some sad news to report today as Lanny Poffo, who was known as “The Genius” in WWE has passed away at the age of 68. From WWE.com: The son of Angelo Poffo and younger brother of WWE Hall of Famer “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Lanny Poffo had a style all his own. Arriving in WWE in 1985 alongside his brother, “Leaping” Lanny Poffo was one of the first high-flyers in WWE. While he achieved some success as a fan favorite reading his own poetry and throwing Frisbees to the crowd, he reached new heights as The Genius while managing Mr. Perfect. Lanny had the honor of inducting his brother into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015. You can see a clip of that below: [This post contains video, click to play] Hacksaw Jim Duggan also reported this news; he did so on his Instagram account: With a very, very heavy heart, I’ve been asked to let everyone know about the passing of our friend and colleague Lanny Poffo, The Genius. REVIEW: Mayhem 2000: When The Cell Isn’t Enough

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Mayhem 2000 Date: November 26, 2000 Location: Wisconsin Center Arena, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Attendance: 3,800 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Stevie Ray, Mark Madden These dying days of WCW are a scary place. Things are about as bad as they’ve been since Russo left, including a rather uninteresting main event of Booker T. defending his World Title against Scott Steiner (again) in a match that really isn’t the biggest secret. Let’s get to it. We open with Booker arriving and being mobbed by the fans that..

AEW Star Announces His Contract Is Expiring, To Become A Free Agent

You could book him too. The last few years have seen some big changed to the wrestling world. AEW’s debut and immediate rise to the second highest spot in the industry has opened up a very big stage for several wrestlers. Wrestlers who might not fit in WWE now have a new place to go, but this time around an AEW wrestler seems ready to ply his trade elsewhere. AEW’s Lio Rush has announced that his contract with the company will expire on February 14, making him a free agent. There is no word on if Rush is interested in re-signing with AEW, as his tweet includes contact information for independent bookings. Rush debuted with the company in September and has only wrestled four matches since arriving. Most of Rush’s time in AEW has been spent as Dante Martin’s manager before Martin joined Team Taz. I’m a free agent. pic.twitter.com/aZwy8F8O6O — Lio Rush (@IamLioRush) January 22, 2022 Opinion: Rush is such an interesting case as he is in his mid 20s and has already wrestled around the w..

News On AEW Changing Miro’s Booking Plans

Not so fast? Correct booking is something that can be rather hard to pull off in wrestling, but doing things right can be absolutely great. Sometimes it works better than others and that can be due to making the right adjustments at the right times. It can take a few attempts to find the right combination and that seems to be the case with a fairly prominent current star. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Miro defeat Orange Cassidy to advance to the finals of the World Title Eliminator tournament. Miro was a replacement for Jon Moxley, who has entered rehabilitation for alcohol issues. According to Fightful Select, the decision to have Miro take Moxley’s spot came on Tuesday, with Miro only arriving to the building just before Dynamite began. It is also said that Miro’s creative plans have changed several times in recent weeks, though it is not clear what the original or final plants will be. Miro is a force all his own. Check out what he has done in AEW: [This post contains v..

Another NXT Star Coming To SmackDown

Welcome to the team. It is no secret that the WWE roster is in a state of flux at the moment. Things are changing all over the place with wrestlers either being let go from the company or showing up on another roster. That can make for some fascinating changes and surprising moments, and now we know another name who is making the move from NXT to the main roster. This week on SmackDown, a vignette aired announcing that Toni Storm was coming to the show. There is no word on when Storm will be arriving. Storm has wrestled a pair of dark matches this month before Monday Night Raw and SmackDown as part of a series of tryouts for NXT wrestlers on the main roster. The vignette aired on the same night that Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart debuted on the show as well. Storm signed with WWE since 2018, following an appearance in the 2017 Mae Young Classic. Storm would go on to win the 2018 Mae Young Classic at Evolution before becoming part of the NXT UK roster. After losing a tournament final..

Del Wilkes, AKA The Patriot, Passes Away At Age 59

We have some sad news to report as Del Wilkes, who was known to WWE fans as The Patriot, has passed away at the age of 59. From WWE.com: Before making a name for himself in the squared circle, Wilkes was a standout on the football field for the University of South Carolina, where he earned the distinction of being voted a consensus All-American. After making the switch to sports-entertainment, Wilkes competed all over the world before arriving in WWE in 1997 as The Patriot. A Superstar quickly on the rise, The Patriot proudly donned the red, white and blue of America in the midst of a rivalry with The Hart Foundation, leading to a memorable match against Bret Hart for the WWE Championship at In Your House: Ground Zero just two months after his WWE debut. We at Wrestling Rumors extend our deepest condolences to the Wilkes family during this difficult time. Two Former WWE Personalities Making Impact Wrestling Debuts

Welcome to your new home. The wrestling world has changed in a lot of ways as wrestling fans are now able to see almost every major promotion in the world if they choose to take the time to do so. That can offer some benefits to the wrestlers as fans can be more familiar with wrestlers arriving in a new company, which will be the case in a few weeks in an important spot. The WWE Women’s Revolution has changed a lot of things in a good way for women’s wrestling. After spending years as a glorified side show, women’s wrestling has become far more prominent and important since the Revolution began. However, there were other wrestlers and promotions which did a lot for women’s wrestling before WWE with Impact wrestling near the top of the list. Now they are reviving the Knockouts Tag Team Titles in a tournament, which will include some former WWE talents. During this weekend’s Turning Point event, Impact Wrestling revealed the brackets for the upcoming Knockouts Tag Team Titles tournamen..

AEW Or New Japan: When Will Jon Moxley Face KENTA?

KENTA’s victory in the first ever New Japan Cup USA Tournament on August 21 gave him the right to challenge for the IWGP United States Championship. KENTA has held only one title, the NEVER Openweight championship, since arriving in the promotion in 2019 and now wants to add the U.S. belt to his list of accomplishments. But the problem is that the current United States champion, Jon Moxley, is also the AEW World Heavyweight champion. Mox has obligations to Tony Khan’s company and thanks to travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the champ has been unable to work in Japan. So what happens now? Fans of both KENTA and Mox want to see a match between the two and that’s been evident since KENTA debuted in NJPW. KENTA was very vocal about wanting to face the best competition in New Japan and that was the case from the moment he arrived. Moxley’s name was thrown around more than once, teasing fans with a showdown that was surely on the horizon. But that match never happened and n..

Details On Vince McMahon’s Monday Night Raw Changes

Are you really surprised? Vince McMahon is the undisputed king of all things professional wrestling and has been for a very long time now. Whether you like him or not, there is no denying that he is the ultimate power in the sport and can do just about anything he wants. If he makes a decision there isn’t much that can be done to change his mind and that was the case again this week. There are a lot of problems with the current WWE system and they have been around for a very long time. Above all else, the television show is not always the most coherent or air tight and a lot of that comes from the massive rewrites that tend to take place. Most of these are ordered by McMahon and that was the case again this week, though it was a little worse than usual. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, McMahon made several changes to the show throughout the day over the phone and then made even more upon arriving at the Amway Center for the broadcast. McMahon made it to the arena at around 7:00..

It’s Like Summer Vacation. Check Out This Behind The Scenes Footage From Summerslam

Just in case you didn’t see enough of it. In the vein of every major WWE show anymore (outside of WrestleMania), this year’s Summerslam pay per view was a four hour event with two hours of a Kickoff Show. That’s a very long time to watch any wrestling event and WWE never seems to mind. There’s so much content to watch but now that we’re nearly two weeks removed, we have something extra to see. It’s a different way of looking at the show. [This post contains video, click to play] WWE has posted a new video of behind the scenes footage from this year’s Summerslam event. The video is exactly what it sounds like with a look at some of the bigger name stars arriving and getting ready for their matches, including spending time with their families. AJ Styles is prominently featured as his wife and daughter were featured on the show during his match. In case you didn’t get enough of it, here are this year’s Summerslam results. Opinion: This is one of the rare things that always works. Wr..

WWE Stars Experiencing Travel Issues

In what was a long week for some, just got longer. After traveling to Saudi Arabia for the 'Greatest Royal Rumble' event in what is nearly a 12-hour flight, immediately after the show concluded this past Friday the wrestlers who competed at the event where transported on planes from Saudi Arabia to the United States at midnight. According to PWInsider, a majority of the talents made it back to the U.S.Saturday afternoon coming through New York City's 'JFK' airport before getting on the flight that would take them to their respective homes. For some of the talents they only had 24 hours to enjoy home as they had to fly out Sunday to get ready for the TV tapings in Canada this week. The site notes that some talents were scheduled to fly back to New York and then connect at 'LaGuardia Airport' for a flight to Montreal. For the talents who had this schedule, after arriving to New York they discovered that that their flight to Montreal had been canceled..

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap w/ Kristian Harloff – Writing for WWE, Relationship with Roddy Piper, WWE Limiting Their Talents, More!

<p>Russo welcomes former WWE writer Kristian Harloff to the show.</p><p>Harloff says that he was always a huge wrestling fan, and his favourite performer was ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage. He moved to Los Angeles to become a writer and a stand up comedian, and he met Paul Heyman through a WWE event one evening. He asked Heyman how to get a chance to write for WWE and Heyman told him to write a letter. He told Heyman he already did that, so Heyman told him to write another one.</p><p>He wrote the company again, this time including his take on an in-depth ‘Invasion’ angle. This caught the attention of <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/stephanie-mcmahon" title="Stephanie McMahon">Stephanie McMahon</a></strong> and she flew him into Stanford for an interview.</p><p></p><p>Russo asks Harloff why he’d want to make the jump from being a stand-up comedian to writing professional wrestling. He says that he always wanted to work for WWE and he had to take the chance. Unfortunately, shortly after arriving in WWE he realized that it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows behind the curtains.</p><p>Harloff informs that he got on management’s radar <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/quick/" title="quick">quick</a></strong>, but not in a positive way. During his first pre-show production meeting which was led by <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/vince-mcmahon" title="Vince McMahon">Vince McMahon</a></strong>, Harloff raised his hand to ask questions on multiple occasions. Coach came up to him after that and told him to settle down a little bit, because you don’t want to be ‘that’ guy.</p>

Reason Why Tom Phillips Was Replaced on 205 Live

<p>As seen on this week’s episode of 205 Live, former House of Hardcore announcer Vic Joseph made his <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/debut/" title="debut">debut</a></strong> at the broadcasting booth for the brand. He will be replacing Tom Phillips moving forward.</p><p>The reason Vic replaced Tom on 205 Live is because the company wants Tom to <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/focus/" title="focus">focus</a></strong> on other duties in the company and he has a lot on his plate with being the lead announcer for SmackDown Live. With Vic is on the rise within the company, the belief is that he is the perfect replacement. Since arriving in the company, Vic has worked on WWE Main Event and NXT in a short time. The company is very high on his work and that’s why Vic has been chosen as Tom’s replacement.</p><p>Tom posted the following on Twitter regarding Vic’s new role on weekly WWE television:</p>

Talk is Jericho Recap w/ Big Show – Working Live Events vs. TV Tapings, Struggles After Arriving in WWE, Working with Hogan/Savage/Undertaker, More!

<p>Jericho welcomes Big Show to the show.</p><p>Show informs that he has lost 90 lbs as of this date. For years he was the biggest guy everywhere he went, and he made big guys look small when he entered the ring with them. It was his gimmick, and he enjoyed it very much. Now that he’s at the end of the career, he doesn’t need that feeling anymore and he knew it was time for him to make a change.</p><p>He says his motivation to lose weight came as a result of a conversation with <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/johncena" title="John Cena">John Cena</a></strong>. He and Cena were jokingly taking jabs at one another one day and as he often did, Show was making fun of Cena’s body in the sense that he <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/lives/" title="lives">lives</a></strong> and eats right but he’s eventually going to die anyway. Show then made the comment, “Who’d want to see a giant with abs?” Cena looked at him and said, “Who wouldn’t want to see a giant with abs?” This angered Show, and he left that conversation very motivated.</p><p></p><p>He says that he dropped weight before in the past, but it was never really as a result of a positive change in his diet. He’s very <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/proud/" title="proud">proud</a></strong> of this weight loss because he has completely changed his diet and has stuck to his plan. It’s amazing to him how many of his co-workers and fans he has motivated through this weight loss, and that’s something that he’s very proud of.</p>

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Monday Nitro Analysis, Cutting A Live Promo for the First Time, Old Guard vs. New Blood, More!

<p>On today’s show Russo and his co-host Jeff Lane will be discussing WCW’s Monday Nitro from April 10th, 2000.</p><p>Russo says that watching this show made him sad because it’s evident that he could work well and create some good television with Eric Bischoff and Jeff Jarrett. This was the first episode of Monday Nitro that he co-wrote with Eric Bischoff, and he really wishes they could let bygones be bygones and move on with their lives without all of this bad <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/blood/" title="blood">blood</a></strong>.</p><p></p><p>Russo informs that he originally reached out to WCW after <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/vince-mcmahon" title="Vince McMahon">Vince McMahon</a></strong> told him to get a nanny to take care of his kids. Family was more important than that to Russo, so he inquired about work opportunities in WCW. Russo was hired in WCW as head writer, but he knew pretty <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/early/" title="early">early</a></strong> on that things were problematic there.</p><p>Bill Bush, an Accountant, was looking over WCW at that time for TNT and he knew nothing about professional wrestling. Russo and Ed Ferrara’s first goal when arriving in WCW was to elevate the mid card and introduce some new blood into the main event picture. The old guard of main eventers like Hulk Hogan and Sting were not happy about this, and they were quick to get in Bush’s ear.</p>

Bray Wyatt Not Trying to Hide His Relationship with JoJo Anymore

<p>As previously reported, <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/bray-wyatt" title="Bray Wyatt">Bray Wyatt</a></strong>’s wife Samantha filed for a divorce from the WWE Superstar after she found out that he was having an affair with WWE ring announcer <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/jo-jo/" title="Jo Jo">Jo Jo</a></strong>. The <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/story/" title="story">story</a></strong> got some main stream attention yesterday, but that didn’t stop the two from arriving together at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana on Monday for RAW.</p><p></p>

WWE SmackDown Live Results – 6 June 2017

<p>Welcome to another edition of SmackDown Live!</p><p>Tonight we have a bonafide first-time ever match-up between two huge stars: Kevin Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura! These two men are set to lock horns in the Money In The Bank ladder match in less than two weeks but tonight they get to inflict some damage and probably have a show stealer!</p><p>Also on tonight’s show, AJ Styles will face Dolph Ziggler once again – after losing last week in what was seemingly a botched finish. Dave Meltzer predicted this match would happen again tonight, in order to give AJ a win and some momentum back. The match last week was really starting to heat-up into a great affair but it ended abruptly when Ziggler superkicked AJ in the back of the head.</p><p>The New Day jumped right into the tag team title picture upon arriving on SmackDown last week. <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/xavier-woods" title="Xavier Woods">Xavier Woods</a></strong>, Big E, and Kofi Kingston challenged The Usos in their first appearance on the blue brand since coming over via the Superstar Shake-up. And now a SmackDown Tag Team Championship match awaits them at the Money in the Bank PPV. I expect to finally see The New Day in tag team action tonight, but will The Uso’s play fair?</p><p>The women’s Money In The Bank ladder match is also less than two weeks away, and it’s a match that has gotten a lot of people excited. However it does seemingly leave <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/naomi" title="Naomi">Naomi</a></strong> off of a PPV, having not defended her title in a while. This could really hurt the Champion as she looks to add credibility to her reign. Rumours suggest <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/lana" title="Lana">Lana</a></strong> might appear soon and challenge Naomi at Money in the Bank but I don’t see this happening – why would WWE promote Lana so heavily, only to have her lose her first match and fade away? Hopefully we find out tonight if Naomi will have a role at the PPV.</p><p>And then there’s Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton. The two didn’t meet physically last week, but Orton did give a good promo and Jinder appeared on the tron afterwards to annoy him. Expect things to really heat-up tonight between these two, as WWE need to add some fuel to the fire before long. That’s the preview for tonight’s show, let us know what you’re excited to see in the comments below, check out the free Ringside News app, and enjoy the show!</p>
