Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Welcome back. A wrestler returning from an injury can be one of the more exciting things to take place on a wrestling show. If someone has been gone for a long time, it can be quite the moment to have them back. You never know when you might see someone pop back up, and sometimes they are thrown right into the middle of something important. That was the situation this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Get Well Soon: Missing WWE Star Reportedly Undergoes Shoulder Surgery This week’s edition of NXT opened with North American Champion Wes Lee issuing an open challenge for a title match, with the first wrestler getting into the ring getting the shot. Dabba-Kato almost made it to the ring first but Apollo Crews cut him off, allowing the returning Nathan Frazer to get inside for the title shot. NXT Date: February 28, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Booker T. We are about a month away from Stand & Deliver and the card is starting to take shape. While nothing has happened yet and Roadblock is next week, you can probably figure out a lot of what is coming. One thing that is not entirely clear is what will be going on with Shawn Michaels and Grayson Waller, but maybe we can find out some more tonight. Let’s get to it. We open with a huge brawl of people trying to get to the ring to answer Wes Lee’s open challenge for a North American Title shot. Dabba-Kato almost makes it in but Apollo Crews jumps him. Nathan Frazer returns and gets inside for the title shot. North American Title: Nathan Frazer vs. Wes Lee Lee is defending. Frazer headlocks him down to start and holds him there for a good bit. Join The Team: WWE Discusses Carmelo Hayes Coming To Main Roster For Specific Role

That would be a change. NXT stars are in a strange place as they are trying to get over in front of their own television audience but also trying to get over with the WWE. Their ultimate goal is to get to the main roster, which can come in a variety of ways. Occasionally it involves joining an established group and now an NXT star may be in the running to do just that. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: A Big One: WWE Reportedly Believes They Can Sign Kenny Omega According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is considering calling up Carmelo Hayes from NXT and having him join a reformed Hurt Business. There is no word on when this would take place, though the Hurt Business is currently not around. Hayes is a former two time North American Champion and has been rumored for a call up over the last few months. This is noted as still being seen as speculation rather than something definitive. NXT Vengeance Day 2023 Results

Vengeance Day 2023 Date: February 4, 2023 Location: Spectrum Center, Charlotte, North Carolina Commentators: Vic Joseph, Booker T. NXT is back on the road for the first time since Stand & Deliver all the way back in the spring. That is something that could do a lot of good for NXT and the card is pretty stacked as well. We have a bunch of title matches here, capped off by Bron Breakker defending the NXT Title against Grayson Waller inside a cage. Let’s get to it. Charlotte hosts the opening video, which features all of the wrestlers coming into what looks like a mini arena (probably at the Performance Center) and staring each other down. Commentary says they are on the road for the first time since they took over Portland over 1,000 days ago. North American Title: Wes Lee vs. Dijak Lee is defending and suckers Dijak into the corner to start. LOOK: NXT Star Suffers Nasty Injury At Vengeance Day (Contains Slightly Graphic Photo)

Ouch! There are all kinds of injuries in the wrestling world and some of them can come out of nowhere. While several injuries are the result of years of wear and tear, occasionally you will see someone get hurt in the blink of an eye. Some of the worst instances of this involve injuries that are obvious to anyone watching, which was the case again this weekend with a nasty looking situation. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Hand Them Over: Multiple New Champions Crowned At NXT Vengeance Day The opening match of this weekend’s NXT Vengeance Day saw Wes Lee successfully defend the North American Title against Dijak. At some point during the match, Dijak suffered an injury to his finger, which appeared to be either broken or dislocated. Hand Them Over: Multiple New Champions Crowned At NXT Vengeance Day

It was a busy night. Title changes are one of the most important things that you can see at a wrestling event. A new champion being crowned marks a changing of the guard, as you have someone else becoming one of the to stars in a promotion. It can mean even more if multiple titles change hands in a single night, which was the case this weekend in the span of a few hours. There were two title changes over the weekend at NXT Vengeance Day. First up, Fallon Henley and Kiana James defeated Kayden Carter and Katana Chance to become the new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. The win marks the first title changes for Henley and James and also ends the record setting reign for Chance and Carter at 186 days. Later, Gallus defeated Pretty Deadly, Chase U and reigning champions the New Day to win the NXT Tag Team Titles for the first time. NXT Vengeance Day 2023 Preview, Predictions And Thoughts

Unless I’m forgetting something, this is the first time NXT has left Orlando for a televised event since Stand & Deliver over Wrestlemania weekend. At some point they just need to get out of Florida and heading to Charlotte is as good of a way as any. The card actually has me interested this time, though the television show from this week wasn’t so great. Maybe they can overcome that with a good one here so let’s get to it. North American Title: Wes Lee(c) vs. Dijak We’ll start off with one that can go either way as Dijak is a monster who can run through a lot of people and Lee is someone who could be champion for a nice run. This has been built up for a few weeks with Dijak speaking more and more like an 80s movie villain. Lee has turned into a much better star than I would have expected him to be and this is a tossup so far. I’ll go with Lee here, as it would not surprise me to see Tony D’Angelo and Stacks come in to cost Dijak the match. Dijak is someone who needs to be protected ..

He’ll Be Back: Here’s Why Kenny Omega Has Been Missing From AEW TV

The international slowdown. There are all kinds of wrestling stars from around the world and several of them appear on national television on a regular basis. You can see many of them every week on WWE and AEW programming but they do have issues that American wrestlers do not have to face. One of AEW’s biggest stars is having just that problem at the moment and it could be a bit before he is back. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s In For Now: Former WWE Star Set For AEW Debut According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Kenny Omega is currently dealing with a visa issue that is keeping him off AEW TV. Omega has not appeared on the last two weeks of Dynamite and was said to have “badly” wanted to be on the Jay Briscoe tribute show. AEW is hoping that Omega will be able to return on February 1 but that is yet to be guaranteed so far. Omega is one of their biggest stars. All Hands: WWE Bringing In Independent Star To Help With Royal Rumble

They need the help. We are coming up on the Royal Rumble and that means things are going to get rather complicated rather quickly. The show will feature two matches with sixty people between the two of them and that is going to require a bunch of people working together. Some of those people will be behind the scenes and now WWE might be bringing in outside help for the show. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: That Might Slow It Down: Lawsuit Filed Against Vince McMahon Over WWE Return According to Fightful Select, independent wrestler Jason Cade is being brought in to help produce the women’s Royal Rumble match. Cade is said to have comprehensive experience, which would be valuable for a match like this. There is no word on if he could be hired as a WWE producer full time or if this should be seen as a tryout of some kind.
