WWE Announces King and Queen of the Ring 2023 Event

New royalty will be crowned. WWE has issued the following press release, announcing the 2023 King and Queen of the Ring event: The General Entertainment Authority, in cooperation with WWE, has announced that WWE King and Queen Of The Ring will be held at the Jeddah Superdome, the world’s largest pillarless Superdome, on Saturday, May 27, 2023. WWE King and Queen Of The Ring is happening in Jeddah, alongside a host of additional exciting events happening in Jeddah throughout the year. This marks the first King Of The Ring Premium Live Event to be held since 2015 and the first crowning of a Queen since the inaugural Queen’s Crown Tournament which took place at WWE Crown Jewel in Riyadh in 2021. She’s back. WWE has had a number of returns in the past 48 hours, with names such as Chelsea Green and Rick Boogs returning to the company. However, there was an additional name that also made her presence felt on television. Carmella made her return to WWE programming on tonight’s episode of Raw. It was also announced that she would be in a Fatal-4-way match on next week’s show, along with Candice LaRae, Michin, and Piper Niven. The winner of that match will qualify for the upcoming Elimination Chamber match, where the winner will face Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. WWE Breaks All-Time Gate Record For WrestleMania 39

People are excited. WWE issued a press release today, stating that they have broken the company’s all-time gate record for any WrestleMania, despite having yet to announce a single match. The previous record announced was $17.3 million in 2016 at WrestleMania 32 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. From the press release: The record gate comes on the heels of unprecedented ticket sales demand for WWE in 2022, in which it produced the highest-grossing gates of all-time for Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and Extreme Rules. Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales, which marked WWE’s first major stadium show in the U.K. in 30 years, was the highest-grossing U.K. event in company history. Hold on a second. WWE is a huge wrestling company and does what it can to take care of its wrestlers. This includes a full medical staff to take care of various issues, but there are other instances where additional help is needed. Occasionally WWE will send wrestlers to get help outside of the company and that seemed to be the case with one of its stars. That just might not be what happened though. IN CASE YOU MIsSED IT: Clean Bill: NXT Star Announces He Is Medically Cleared After Two Month Absence Earlier this month, a report surfaced saying that Matt Riddle had been sent to rehab following a second failed drug test. The Wrestling Observer reports that this is not the case though, as Riddle’s situation violates the WWE Wellness Policy. Riddle’s first positive test resulted would have likely resulted in a thirty day suspension (as per WWE’s policy), but he did not wrestle from July 25 until August 20, which is less than thirty days. AEW Signs Top Star To New Deal, Gives Him Several New Jobs

It can be even more impressive if someone becomes a legend in their own time, making them even more valuable. A promotion will often want to try to keep someone like that under contract for as long as possible and now AEW is doing just that with perhaps its most famous star. According to Variety, Chris Jericho has signed a new three year contract with AEW, which will keep him in the company until December 2025. In addition to wrestling, the new deal comes with additional duties for Jericho, who will become a producer, an advisor to creative as well as a mentor to younger wrestlers. Vince McMahon Made Two Additional Payments Totaling $5 Million

The saga continues. According to multiple reports, WWE has filed a new notice with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), claiming that they learned of two additional payments totaling $5 million that was paid by Vince McMahon. The filing claims that the payments are unrelated to the $14.6 million in “certain unrecorded expenses” that date back to 2006. This scandal played a huge part in McMahon stepping down as CEO of WWE and retiring. The filing reads as follows: “On June 17, 2022, World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. That’s never good to hear. There are a lot of people who work for a wrestling promotion besides just the people you see in the ring. In addition to the wrestlers, there are also the people who help train the wrestlers but rarely get that much attention. Some of those names are famous in their own right though and one such name was missing in action this week. AEW star and trainer Dustin Rhodes announced that he would not be at this week’s Dynamite tapings in Savannah, Georgia as he was home sick. Rhodes did not specify what was wrong with him or suggest that he would be missing any additional time. In addition to wrestling, Rhodes works with the women’s division as a coach and trainer. Bad News On Big E.’s Recovery From His Broken Neck

That is some bad news. There are all kinds of injuries in wrestling and some of them can be very serious. You can tell when someone is seriously hurt and the fear comes in right away, which was the case earlier this year on SmackDown when Big E. suffered a serious neck injury during a match. Things have not sounded great so far and unfortunately that seems to be the case again. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Big E.’s C-1 vertebrae is not healing as fast as he was hoping. As a result, Big E. will be in a neck brace for an additional four to six weeks in an effort to avoid neck fusion surgery. Should he require the surgery, the recovery time is anywhere from nine to fifteen months, with the time usually being more than a year at least. Opinion: That is terrible to hear and unfortunately it does not seem like we will be seeing Big E. anytime soon. Multiple Injuries Took Place At Impact Wrestling Hard To Kill

That’s never good to hear. You never know when a wrestler is going to get hurt and that is always a sad thing to hear. Sometimes a wrestler gets hurt out of nowhere for one reason or another, though there is no way to guarantee that someone can be completely safe. Unfortunately they can come in bunches, and that was the case over the weekend with several wrestlers getting injured. According to PWInsider.com, there were multiple injuries over the weekend at Impact Wrestling’s Hard To Kill pay per view. Deonna Purrazzo (head injury) and World Champion Moose (knot on his hip) are both said to be banged up but are not expected to miss any time. X-Division Champion Trey Miguel broke his front tooth and will require dental surgery. Rosemary suffered some sort of an arm or shoulder injury, though it is not known how severe it is. It’s more work. There have been a lot of controversies in WWE over the last few years and a lot of them have to do with WWE exerting power over its wrestlers. Several stories have shown that WWE exerts every bit of control that they can over the roster, even when it comes to situations outside of the ring. That is the case again, and now it is with one of the company’s bigger side projects. Fightful Select is reporting that Xavier Woods makes little to no additional money from his work on the UpUpDownDown Youtube channel or his work with G4. Instead, WWE applies both of these jobs towards Woods’ downside guarantee, meaning that they are treated the same as Woods’ time in the ring. Woods has never owned the channel and it took a “long time” to get off the ground in the first place.
