Now, Now: Here Is What John Cena May Be Doing At WrestleMania 39

They have a plan for him. We are almost to the Road To WrestleMania and that means it is time to start setting up the show’s major matches. WrestleMania matches and stories need more time to develop than your regular shows and with about two and a half months before the show, the clock is starting to tick. Now it seems that WWE knows where they are going with one of its biggest names ever. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Subtraction By Subtraction: Changes Coming To WWE Network/Peacock, Shows Leaving According to Wrestling Observer Radio, “it looks like” John Cena will face Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39. This is said to have been the plan “way, way back”. Cena and Theory interacted when Cena appeared on Monday Night Raw in June 2022 and have also reportedly filmed an additional segment to air at some point in the future. Cena has also been rumored for a match against Logan Paul. There is no word on when Cena will return to WWE TV. This has potential. Check out the two of them together, pl..

Subtraction By Subtraction: Changes Coming To WWE Network/Peacock, Shows Leaving

It’s less wrestling. The WWE Network was an absolute game changer for wrestling fans. For the first time ever, fans were able to see almost every major WWE event in history for a relatively cheap price. It meant there was more content available to fans and more was added at a regular basis. However, that might not be the case anymore, at least for certain wrestling programming. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: You’re Up: Royal Rumble Described As “All Hands On Deck”, What That Means According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, a WWE source says that independent wrestling content will be discontinued on Peacock. This comes after various shows events are listed as leaving in a few days. Shows that seem to be leaving include ICW, Progress and Evolve, though it is not clear if all of them will be leaving permanently. A wXw event is set to premiere this coming Sunday. A WWE source indicated to Fightful that they'll be discontinuing indie content on the WWE Network. https://t.co/DwMvG4msM2 — Sean..

WWE Partners With Disney+ To Air WWE Network Content In Certain Area

That’s a big partnership. WWE is the biggest wrestling promotion in the world and has been for a very long time now. No other wrestling company is anywhere close to what WWE is doing at the moment and it makes sense for other companies outside of WWE to want in on it. Now one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world is going to be doing some business with WWE. According to PWInsider.com, the WWE Network will be available on Disney+ in the Philippines beginning on November 17. The agreement will include live events and archived content, plus material from the Star brand, which is similar to Hulu in the United States. There is currently nothing to suggest that Disney and WWE will be working together elsewhere in the near future. Opinion: This is something that doesn’t mean much in the United States or to most of the world, but anything involving WWE working with a company like Disney is a huge deal. That isn’t a partnership you get to see every day and it would not surprise ..

KB’s Review: The Game Changer

It has been a summer of change in WWE, as the company has been shaken up in more ways than anyone would have believed to be possible. Vince McMahon finally (ahem) retired from the company and that means it is time to start filling in the power vacuum left behind. Triple H has filled in a big portion of that gap and has made some changes of his own in WWE. While there are a lot of them run together, we are going to be looking at what seems to be the biggest one, and how it ties into the future. Triple H did a lot of things during his initial time in power in WWE and the biggest contribution he made was the rise of NXT. What used to be little more than bonus content on WWE.com/the early days of the WWE Network because a viable third brand, to the point where NXT ran away with the Battle For Brand Supremacy at Survivor Series 2019. The show wound up getting two hours on the USA Network every week and things were starting to go great. Then came AEW and, long story short, Triple H’s NXT d..

WWE Gets Some Good WrestleMania News From The USA Network

That’s worth a look. WrestleMania has been around for the better part of forty years now and has grown so far beyond what it was when the show was introduced. Now instead of being run in an arena, the show takes place over two nights inside of an NFL sized football stadium. That is quite the change, and now there is even more proof that the show has gotten even bigger. According to PWInsider.com, the first night of the WrestleMania 38 Kickoff Show will air live on the USA Network from 6pm-8pm. The show will also air on Peacock and the WWE Network. There is no word on what will be airing on the show, though the show usually includes several matches. The Sunday Kickoff Show has not been announced to air on USA, but there is a chance that it will be as well. Opinion: That is the kind of thing that makes WrestleMania feel special, as the show is being treated as something bigger than anything else all year. Airing the first two hours on the USA Network is something that you do not get to..

WWE Wanted To Shut Ring Of Honor Down

They had a plan for that. Last week, AEW President Tony Khan announced that he had purchased Ring of Honor Wrestling, marking a new era for the company. At the moment there is no word on what Khan will be doing with Ring of Honor, but one of the rumors has been that it will become AEW’s developmental territory. That is one use for it, but WWE had another idea in mind. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE considered purchasing Ring of Honor in 2018. Had WWE purchased the company, they would have shut it down rather than using it for anything else so as to avoid competition with NXT. WWE would have used the Ring of Honor tape library on the WWE Network and for various documentaries, but the promotion itself would have been gone. Opinion: This is one of those things that might make sense for WWE but it doesn’t exactly do well for the fans. I can go for the idea of having more wrestling around and Ring of Honor is something with some value. The tape library would be valuab..

WWE Terminates Working Relationship With Russia

According to its corporate website, WWE has terminated its partnership with Russian broadcaster Match and shut down the WWE Network in Russia effective immediately. The report further states that the move eliminates access in Russia to any WWE programming, including the company’s weekly Raw, SmackDown and NXT shows, its on-demand library, and all of its premium live events, including WrestleMania 38. This is the latest in a series of economic decisions made in an attempt to punish the Russian Government and Vladimir Putin for its invasion of Ukraine. Several companies, including Apple, have stopped doing business with Russia, which is hurting their economy. In addition, the United States has placed several sanctions on Russia over the past weeks, with more to come in the future. Editor’s Opinion: This doesn’t surprise me, as we are starting to see a pattern of major industries from the west doing what they can to stand up to the Russian Government. Many people view Russia’s invasio..

WWE Announces New Deal With Disney+ Hotstar

That’s a big deal. WWE is the biggest wrestling company in the world and has made a fortune through its licensing deals. By merely allowing other companies and platforms to air its content, WWE has managed to make enough money that it is guaranteed to be profitable for a long time to come. That has not stopped them from pushing on further though, and that is the case again with an international deal. WWE and Disney+ Hotstar have announced, by way of 411mania.com, that the WWE Network will be available on Disney+ in Indonesia. This is similar to Peacock airing WWE Network content in the United States, with the deal including this weekend’s Royal Rumble. The deal is WWE’s first of any kind with Disney, though it is not clear if the two sides will be entering into any more agreements going forward. Opinion: I know it is just one country and a relatively small deal, but WWE having any kind of a relationship with Disney is a good thing. That is about as big as it gets from an entertainmen..

Ouch: WWE’s Biggest Streaming Partner Loses A Fortune

That’s a lot of money. WWE has made a fortune by producing so much content that they are constantly in demand. Other platforms are interested in bringing over WWE and everything that they can showcase, which comes with a built in audience. That can come at a high price tag, and now it seems that one of WWE’s biggest partners has paid for quite a few of those price tags. According to Variety, Peacock, the official platform for the WWE Network in the United States, lost $1.7 billion in 2021, doubling its losses from last year. Peacock is entering its third year of availability and features Universal films, NBC television and WWE content. There is nothing to suggest that Peacock will be shutting down, as it is reportedly not expected to be profitable until 2025. Opinion: This is one of those things that is kind of hard to get my head around, as losing nearly two billion dollars sounds catastrophic to any business. That being said, NBC Universal is a mammoth company and something on the ..

Another WWE Name Has Departed The Company

So long. WWE has been shaken up in a bunch of ways and some of those moves have caused all kinds of changes behind the scenes. This has included a variety of wrestlers, trainers and more from the company, some of which have been some rather well known names. There have also been some names that might not be the most familiar, and that could be the case again this time. According to PWInsider.com, Amanda Tustian, Director of Over The Top Content for the WWE Network, has left the company. It is not clear why she left WWE or if there was any sudden reason for her departure. Tustian has been with the company since 2010, working in creative and in various areas with the WWE Network. She took over her most recent position in September 2020. Opinion: I’m not sure why Tustian moved on from WWE but she is the most recent person leaving the company. While I can imagine WWE has someone ready to take her place, it is someone else who needs to be moved into another role. Hopefully the company has..

Update On WWE’s WrestleMania Weekend Plans, Possible New Scheduling

Get your calendars ready. We are less htna three months away from WrestleMania 38 and the preparations for the show have already begun. There are a lot of moves that still need to be made to make it the biggest wrestling weekend of the year, but some of those changes have nothing to do with WrestleMania itself. WWE offers quite a few other things over the weekend and now we know some more about two of the bigger ones. Earlier this week, it was announced that WWE would be presenting both NXT Stand & Deliver and the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony over WrestleMania weekend. According to PWInsider.com, there have been discussions to hold NXT Stand & Deliver on Saturday April 2 as a matinee show before the first night of WrestleMania 38. There is no word on where the event will be held. In addition, also according to PWInsider.com, the potential plan for the Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be aired after the April 1 SmackDown on Peacock and the WWE Network, though there is no..

WWE Bringing Back Long Running Series After Two Year Hiatus

Back on the schedule. There is a lot of WWE programming in any given week. The amount of wrestling available to any fan is nothing short of astounding and it can be rather easy to overlook some of the better options available. That isn’t even including the non-wrestling content, and now we might be seeing one of the company’s better shows making a long awaited comeback. According to PWInsider.com, WWE will be filming new episodes of their Table For 3 series later this month. The series features three wrestlers with some sort of a shared theme or connection having a conversation over a meal. There have been fifty one episodes of the series to date, but the most recent was released in 2019. There is no word on when the new shows will air or who will be appearing. The show will air on Peacock and the WWE network. Opinion: This is a nice surprise as the show was rather fun to watch. It is the kind of easy, simple show that you can instantly understand while getting some entertaining mome..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Is Doing Rather Well For Peacock

They’re doing well. WWE may have a lot of problems, but they are certainly good at making money. The company knows how to take everything that they do and turn it into a fortune, often by way of licensing their content to another outlet. That was the case when they moved from the WWE Network over to Peacock, but how are things doing over there? Now we have a bit more information. According to Puck News, three million Peacock subscribers have viewed WWE content since the switch to the new service took place in March 2021. More than half of the three million subscribers moved over to Peacock solely because of the WWE content. In addition, one million of the 1.1 million WWE Network subscribers have moved over to Peacock. WWE’s deal with Peacock is scheduled to last for five years. There have been some great moments on Peacock. WATCH: Sasha Banks & Bayley vs. Charlotte & Dana Brooke From WWE Battleground 2016

You can always depend on your friends. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Sasha Banks & Bayley vs. Charlotte & Dana Brooke from Battleground 2016. You can watch the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The champion and her enforcer seemed confident that Banks wouldn’t be able to find a partner, but The Boss proved them wrong as the WWE Network event started. The WWE Universe was ecstatic to see Bayley, erupting in cheers as her trademark wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube men soared toward the Verizon Center’s rafters. The rapturous cheers quickly turned to jeers as Charlotte and Dana ambushed their opponents before the bell. The WWE Women’s Champion pounced on Bayley, but the resilient NXT Superstar fought out of the corner with a diving elbow and sent Banks into action. A fired-up Boss charged at Charlotte and unleashed a hurricanrana off the ropes. However, the steel..

WWE Makes Odd Decision On Some Of Its Content

Lost in the shuffle? WWE has been shaken up a lot in recent months, though there are some changes that have flown a bit under the radar. One of the biggest has been the shift from the WWE Network to Peacock, which marked the end of a seven year run and started a new five year version. The content available has changed a bit, though now it seems that we might not be seeing some content for a long time. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has shelved several completed documentaries. This includes documentaries on a superfan named Vladimir, Lex Luger, Ric Flair and Money in the Bank. WWE advertised the Vladimir and Luger documentaries, with the former being mentioned as recently as September 11. There is no word on why WWE has chosen not to release them and nothing to suggest they will be released in the future. They’re interesting subjects. Check out some of what you won’t be seeing: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contain..

You’ll Be Seeing More Of The Rock In WWE Soon

I’d think he has earned it. There are certain people who have done some great things in wrestling but only a handful move on from the industry and become an even bigger star. There are a few of them to be found though and WWE is rather happy to have them back when they are willing to make a cameo. Now one of the biggest stars in wrestling history is going to get quite the focus. WWE has announced that the WWE Network will be celebrating the Rock throughout the month of November. This month marks twenty five years since the Rock made his WWF debut at Survivor Series 1996. The month will include programming focusing on the Rock, beginning with a new collection called The Best Of The Rock which will debut on Tuesday November 2. Get ready to salute @TheRock all month long in honor of the 25-year anniversary of his WWE debut.#Rock25 pic.twitter.com/ntEjToXX3u — WWE (@WWE) November 1, 2021 Oh I think he has some moments. Check out some of the Rock’s best: [This post contains video, clic..

AEW May Have A Streaming Service In 2022

It would be a step. Back in 2014, WWE changed the way the wrestling world worked by launching the WWE Network. The company was suddenly opening their video vault, allowing fans to see so much of the material they have presented over the years for a cheap price. It was an amazing thing for wrestling fans, and now the company might be getting ready to look at some competition. During a recent edition of Ask Tony Live from Adfreeshows.com, AEW broadcaster Tony Schiavone said that he believed AEW would have its own streaming service by the end of 2022. While Schiavone acknowledged that he did not know this for a fact, he said that he believed it based on conversations he had been having with people in the company. Schiavone also said that he had heard AEW would eventually make it to HBO Max. AEW has done a lot in its brief history. Check out some of what they have to offer: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video,..

REVIEW: Invasion Of The Bodyslammers: Wrestling And Bowling

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Invasion of the Bodyslammers Hosts: Lord Alfred Hayes, Slick Commentators: Bobby Heenan, Jim Ross, Randy Savage Oh how I love the WWE Network. Back in the day, I had this on tape and watched it so many times that I can probably tell you the commentary from memory. I’ve always wanted to review it but it’s kind of hard to find. Well either that or I’m too lazy to actually look it up. This is from early 1993 so don’t expect the best action in the world. Let’s get to it. Hayes and Slick are in a bowling alley where S..
