WATCH: Roman Reigns Gets Extra Violent On Sami Zayn At WWE Live Event

It wasn’t over. WWE presents all kinds of wrestling events every year, many of which are aired on national television. At the same time, there are several events that only take place in front of the crowd, with the WWE cameras not rolling. Sometimes you will get to see some of the footage shot by fans though, and that was the case this week, with some big names featured. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Silver Screen: John Cena Set For Villain Role In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Film This weekend, Roman Reigns made a rare appearance at a WWE live event, defeating Sami Zayn to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Title in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Following the match, as shown in footage shot by a fan, Reigns said that Zayn was going to pay for his past actions and then attacked him again. Reigns had previously beaten Zayn in a title match at Elimination Chamber in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was a brutal one. One More: Sami Zayn Getting Another Title Shot Against Roman Reigns

Run it back. Every so often, you will run across a match that is built almost solely on emotion. The build to the match goes so well that by the time it actually rolls around, you almost have to see what happens. That can make for some very special moments and it is even better when you get to see the match take place. Now we are going to get to see the rematch. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s In Charge: Former WWE Champion Set To Host WrestleMania 39 The main event of WWE Elimination Chamber saw Sami Zayn challenging Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title in Zayn’s hometown of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. While Zayn lost, it took some interference for Reigns to retain and the match was close throughout. Now WWE is running the match again, this time at a live event on March 4 at the Coca Cola Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This marks a rare live event appearance for Reigns, who wrestles on a relaxed schedule. JUST ANNOUNCED! Canada’s own @SamiZayn takes on @WWERomanReig..

D’Oh! Local WWE Advertisement Seems To Spoil Major Angle

Put up the warning sign. We are less than forty days away from WrestleMania 39 and the card is starting to come together. If a match has not yet been announced, it might be something that you can probably guess from here. That makes for some interesting times on the way to the show, and now we might have an idea of one big angle that could be taking place before then. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Still There: Update On Missing NXT Star’s WWE Status Roman Reigns defeated Sami Zayn to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at Elimination Chamber. Following the match, Kevin Owens saved Zayn from an attack but did not reunite with him either there, or two nights later on Monday Night Raw. Zayn has tried to bury the hatchet with Owens but it has not yet happened. However, according to PWInsider.com, the Coca Cola Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada is advertising Owens/Zayn vs. Reigns/Solo Sikoa for a WWE live event on March 4. There is no guarantee that Owens and Zayn will have reunited by..

Marella made his entrance after Moose used a low blow to defeat Joe Hendry and announced that he is now in the role of the Director of Authority. He then restarted the match, which led to Hendry getting the win and retaining the Digital Media Championship. Injury Update on Johnny Gargano; Out of Action Temporarily

You hate to see it. Tonight on RAW, Candice LaRae mentioned in a backstage interview that her husband, Johnny Gargano, suffered an injury at a recent WWE event. Gargano took to Twitter to confirm the report, saying the following: I injured my shoulder at a live event in Toronto (ironic?), and the medical team is going to protect me from myself for a bit.. but you better believe I’m going to do EVERYTHING I can to get back in that ring so I can be that guy you all know I can be. Just let me in that Rumble! I injured my shoulder at a live event in Toronto (ironic?), and the medical team is going to protect me from myself for a bit.. but you better believe I'm going to do EVERYTHING I can to get back in that ring so I can be that guy you all know I can be. Just let me in that Rumble! — Johnny Gargano (@JohnnyGargano) January 10, 2023 It is unknown how long he will be out of action. Gargano made his return to WWE on the August 22, 2022 episode of RAW, after not renewing his NXT ..

VIDEO: Edge Confirms Retirement Rumors; Potential Timeline Revealed

Last August, Edge openly admitted that his wrestling days were numbered after he made his return to WWE back in 2020. A part-time schedule and smart booking has allowed the WWE Hall of Famer to continue wrestling for the past three years in select feuds, but even he would be the first tell you that he’s wrestling on borrowed time. During a recent podcast episode of the Leafs Morning Take, Edge discussed a number of topics, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, the fact that the Montreal Screwjob was his first WWE PPV he attended as a talent and an update on the “clock ticking” on The Rated R Superstar’s wrestling career. Here’s the full appearance from Edge. Around the 8:50 mark is when he begins addressing the “closing window.” Edge announced his retirement plans back in August. Edge mentioned that he would be interested to officially end his career in Toronto next August. He’s talked about getting to choose his ending this time, but he’s an older man now. Recovery time is likely a l..

Backstage News On AEW’s Trick To Save Money

That sounds like a plan. There are a lot of things that go down throughout a wrestling show, including things that do not take place in front of the audience. That is the kind of thing that you see take place on any given show, but at the same time, it does not mean that you are seeing something take place as it seems. Now we know a bit more about how a major promotion makes this work. Fightful Select has some details on AEW’s backstage production setup. AEW reportedly films several of their backstage segments in advance rather than live in an effort to reduce travel costs. If a wrestler is only going to be at an event for a short backstage segment, it will be filmed in advance rather than bringing someone in for a full day. For example, Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland’s backstage segment in Cincinnati was filmed in Toronto the previous week to avoid bringing in Lee and Strickland for a brief moment of filming. Opinion: This is one of those totally logical concepts and I have no idea..

AEW Rampage Results – October 14, 2022

Rampage Date: October 14, 2022 Location: Coca-Cola Coliseum, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz We’re still north of the border and that should make for a rather energized show. AEW has never gone international (at least on land) before and the crowds are often enough to carry the night. Hopefully they like Ring Of Honor stuff though, because that’s the main event this week. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Jon Moxley/Claudio Castagnoli vs. Butcher and the Blade Bunny is here with Butcher and the Blade. It’s a brawl to start with the fight starting at the bell. They’re quickly on the floor with Blade being sent over a table and then chopped up against the barricade. We settle down to Moxley chopping Blade into the corner before it’s off to Castagnoli as we see Hangman Page watching in the back. A poke to the eye gets Blade out of trouble, meaning Butcher can come in to fight over a suplex with Castagnoli. Butcher gets muscled over and the running..

AEW Star Makes Surprise Return After Four Month Absence

Welcome home. There are a lot of ways to bring a wrestler back after time away from the company and one of the best is as a surprise partner. That is something that can do well on its own but there are ways to sweeten it even more. Bringing someone back in the right place can make it even better and that is what took place this week to some very positive result. This week, AEW made its Canadian debut with a show in Toronto. During the show, the Embassy challenged FTR to a match later in the week on Rampage, with FTR bringing out Toronto’s Shawn Spears to be their partner. Spears has not wrestled since May 25 after being injured. There is no word on if this is a full on babyface turn for Spears or just a one off due to being in his hometown. Opinion: This was a well done setup and the place did go nuts for Spears’ TEN entrance. That is the kind of thing that had some thought put into it and I’m curious to see what happens when Spears is given a chance to shine in a different way. It m..

AEW Dynamite Results – October 12, 2022

Dynamite Date: October 12, 2022 Location: Coca-Cola Coliseum, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schiavone We’re up north this week and out of the United States (at least on land) for the first time. The main events feature a grand total of one American as we have Bryan Danielson challenging Chris Jericho for the Ring Of Honor World Title and Pac defending the All-Atlantic Title against Orange Cassidy. Let’s get to it. We start hings off with the debut of the newest member of the broadcast team: Renee Paquette (Young). She brings out Christian Cage, who insults Toronto and then brings in Luchasaurus. Jungle Boy vs. Luchasaurus Christian Cage is on commentary. Jungle Boy goes after him to start but gets powered into the corner. The uppercut off the top sends Luchasaurus to the floor and it’s already time for a table. Jungle Boy is in big trouble as the table is set up outside and we take a break. Back with Luchasaurus missing a charge and going into the post,..

WATCH: Trish Stratus And Becky Lynch Get Into It At WWE Live Event

That’s how you make a dream match. The Women’s Revolution has brought women’s wrestling to unbelievable heights in WWE, to the point where a women’s match even headlined WrestleMania. That is something few would have ever believed to be a realistic possibility but they pulled it off. So much of it is due to the talent involved, but they were influenced by the generation that came before them. This weekend, the generations collided. This weekend, WWE ran a live event in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The event was hosted by WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus, a native of Toronto. The main event of the show saw Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch successfully defend her title against Rhea Ripley. After the match, Stratus got in the ring to confront Lynch, who slapped her. Ripley then took out Lynch to end the show. It was a big showdown. Check out the battle of the generations: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: One of the coolest things about the Women’s Revolution is the fact ..

REVIEW: WrestleMania 18: The One And Only

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Wrestlemania XVIII Date: March 17, 2002 Location: SkyDome, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Attendance: 68,237 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler The advertised main event here is Chris Jericho defending the WWF Title against HHH. I say advertised because there’s a match on the card that really is the main event. Back in February, the New World Order debuted in the WWF, meaning Kevin Nash (Diesel), Scott Hall (Razor Ramon) and Hulk Hogan himself made their returns. Hogan got right to the point as well, accepting a Wrest..

One More Time: WWE Legend Returning For Another Special Appearance

She’s good for that. There have been so many wrestlers throughout WWE’s history that it is almost impossible to keep track of everyone. Since there have been been so many, it takes something special to really stick out, which is what makes legends feel so much more impressive. They are the kinds of wrestlers that WWE can bring out for a one off appearance and get a nice reaction, which is what they are hoping for again. The Kitchener Memorial Auditorium is advertising Trish Stratus as the special guest host for a WWE live event on Saturday March 26. Stratus is not expected to wrestle or do anything physical on the show. This comes the day before Stratus is scheduled to host the March 27 live event in her hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. There is no word on if Stratus will do anything more than these two appearances with WWE. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that is perfect for Stratus as she is someone the fans will respond to as she is certainly a legend. I’m not sure if she ..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Live Event Ad WrestleMania Card Hints

Call it a preview? We are less than two months away from WrestleMania 38 and there are a lot of matches that need to be set up. While we already know some of the bigger matches on the card, there are several more that still need to be added. Some of those might seem a bit obvious from here, but there are some that might not make any sense from here. Now, we might have some previews. According to John Pollock of Post Wrestling, WWE is advertising two matches for a March 27 live event in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The matches are: Becky Lynch vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair Bobby Lashley vs. Seth Rollins vs. AJ Styles While not confirmed, these matches could be previews of upcoming WrestleMania 38 matches. Lynch is currently scheduled to defend her Raw Women’s Title against Elimination Chamber. At the same show, Lashley will be defending his WWE Title inside the Elimination Chamber, with Rollins, Styles, Brock Lesnar, Austin Theory and Riddle. There is no word on if either of the Tor..

WWE’s Recent Comments May Have Gained Them A Strong Enemy

The others aren’t happy. While the rise of streaming has changed the way wrestling is viewed, the primary means of seeing a wrestling show is still on television. Networks pay a good deal of money to air the shows every week and a network gaining a contract is quite the big deal. Now one of the companies that airs a wrestling show is not happy with another promotion altogether. Last week, WWE issued a statement to the Toronto Star for a story the newspaper was running on WWE vs. AEW. WWE’s comment described a recent AEW match featuring Anna Jay/Tay Conti vs. The Bunny/Penelope Ford as “gory self-mutilation”. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WarnerMedia, which owns TNT and TBS, which air AEW programming, were said to be unhappy with WWE’s quote. WarnerMedia saw it as a personal attack on their company and an attempt to hurt their sales. There is no word on if WarnerMedia will attempt to retaliate and WWE has not said anything else about the situation. Opinion: This is t..

AEW Stars Mock WWE For Complaints About Violent Content

And now, the response. WWE and AEW have been rivals since the latter came into existence three years ago. AEW certainly has caught fire since then, with the company going from barely existing to the second biggest promotion in the world today. Both companies present themselves in different ways, and it seems WWE does not care for AEW’s style. Now it is time for AEW to fight back. Earlier this week, the Toronto Star published an article comparing the two companies. WWE sent in a statement for the article, criticizing AEW’s violent content while promoting its own family friendly content. The statement included a reference to a No DQ match between Tay Conti/Anna Jay vs. the Bunny/Penelope Ford, in which all four bled. Conti, Jay and the Bunny have all sent out photos on Twitter, showcasing the results of the violence in the match. Not Their Style: WWE Trashes Violence On AEW Programming

I guess they aren’t fans. There are a lot of different ways to present a wrestling match and some of them are a bit more intense. Occasionally you will see a match get a lot more violent than others, which may or may not be a good thing. You will occasionally see bloodshed during a match, which is not everyone’s cup of tea. That was apparent this week. The Toronto Star has published an article comparing WWE and AEW programming. The article looks at the television ratings for WWE SmackDown and AEW Dynamite, noting that the numbers are getting closer and citing AEW’s edgier content. WWE sent in a statement for the piece, criticizing AEW’s content, particularly the street fight between the Bunny/Penelope Ford and Anna Jay/Tay Conti while promoting its own more family friendly product. Here is WWE’s statement: “If you look at the gory self-mutilation that bloodied several women in the December 31 event on TNT, it quickly becomes clear that these are very different businesses. We had an e..

Making that money. WWE has announced that they have signed a number of collegiate athletes to NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals in order to create a potential pathway for them to be signed to developmental contracts in the future. The athletes signed are as follows: Carlos Aviles, of Ventura, Calif., a 6-foot-6, 305-pound track & field athlete from Ohio State University Haley Cavinder, of Gilbert, Ariz., a 5-foot-6 basketball player from Fresno State University Hanna Cavinder, of Gilbert, Ariz., a 5-foot-6 basketball player from Fresno State University A.J. Trish Stratus Returning To WWE For One Night Only

Welcome back. There are certain legends who are going to get a reaction no matter what they do. It can make for some very special moments and some of them are the kind that you can only get in certain places. The best of them are often those which take place in someone’s hometown, which will be the case again for a special appearance to close out the year. WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus has announced that she will be appearing as the guest host for the WWE Live Event in her hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada on December 29. Stratus has made it clear that this will be a one off appearance and not the start of a long term run. There is nothing to suggest that Stratus will be getting in the ring or doing anything physical on the show. Stratus is certainly a legend. Check out some of her best WWE moments: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of thing that should be..
