WRESTLING RUMORS: Possible Backstage Heat On CM Punk In AEW

That would be a problem. There are two different worlds in wrestling and only one of them takes place in front of the camera. In addition to what happens in front of an audience, there is everything that happens when the cameras are off. That can include backstage issues between the wrestlers and we might have seen one of them take place in front of our eyes. According to Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio, there may be some backstage heat on CM Punk in AEW. The two both cited the promo exchange between Punk and Hangman Page this week on Dynamite, saying that it felt like the Shawn Michaels/Bret Hart exchanges from the Attitude Era. This is seen as speculation as the two did not say that there were definite issues between the two or heat on Punk for that matter. Opinion: That is quite a bit to infer off of a single exchange. There is a very real chance that AEW was trying to make the segment feel more like a worked shoot, which means that they did very well. M..

New 25 Episode Podcast Series About WWE Attitude Era Coming Next Month

It’s worth a listen. WWE has been around for a very long time now and has quite the history. There have been all kinds of looks back at that history, oftentimes through the official WWE lens. That can lead to some interesting takes o what the company has done over the years and now we might be seeing something similar, albeit with someone else giving their take. The Ringer will be releasing a new 25 part podcast series called The Book of WWE, looking at a variety of catchphrases from the Attitude Era. The podcast will be hosted by David Shoemaker and is based off a book by Bill Simmons. It will debut on April 4 with a new episode being released every weekday for the next five weeks. There is no word on any possible subjects being covered in the series. Opinion: This is something that could be interesting, though that is a rather specific topic and time frame to look at. I know the Attitude Era has a certain special feeling for a lot of wrestling fans, but there is so much else out th..

KB’s Review: The Gangrel Solution

There are all kinds of problems in WWE today and one of the biggest is that the company does not seem to keep things interesting. This is the case for more than one reason, ranging from stories taking too long to move forward as well as wrestlers losing so often that it is hard to make them feel like stars. These are problems that can be solved, and there is one match that gives you a brief blueprint to solve more than one of them at the same time. Flash back with me to the Attitude Era, which may or may not be everyone’s cup of tea. There are parts of it that are remembered very badly while other elements were quite good in a lot of ways. One of the best things was the wide variety of memorable characters, as almost everyone had at least a little something going on. You can debate the merits of that, but this week we are looking at one match in particular on a pretty important episode of Monday Night Raw. The August 23, 1999 episode of Monday Night Raw was the post-Summerslam editio..

VIDEO: Trailer Released For New Chyna Documentary

It’s an interesting topic. WWE has been around for a very long time now and there are certain periods of time in the company’s history that stand out more than others. One of the most infamous of them all is the Attitude Era, which is still regularly talked about over twenty years later. There were some fascinating people appearing during that time, and now one of them is getting a bigger spotlight. Vice TV, by way of 411mania.com, has announced that they will air a documentary on WWE star Chyna on June 17. The documentary will cover Chyna’s career and life, including comments from her family and people from the wrestling industry, such as Mick Foley and Sean Waltman. In addition to her career, the two hour film will also look into her mental health and substance abuse issues. The documentary will not be part of the Dark Side of the Ring series but rather a stand alone film. This could be rather interesting. Check out the trailer and a bit of Chyna’s time in WWE: [This post contains..

1990s WWE Personality Making Special NXT Appearance

Blast from the past. There are certain eras in WWE history which get more attention than others. You hear some of these names over and over again, with the Attitude Era always near the top of the list. The Golden Era and Ruthless Aggression eras also get some attention, but there is another generation that does not get much attention. Now it is going to get a special cameo. WWE has announced that former broadcaster Todd Pettengill will serve as host of the upcoming NXT Takeover: In Your House 2021. The show will take place on June 13 and follows the first Takeover: In Your House from last year. Pettengill returned to the company to present a preview of the show. There is nothing to suggest that this will be anything more than a one off appearance. Pettengill worked for WWE from 1993-1997 and served as a host of several television shows. He also worked on multiple In Your House events, along with other WWE pay per views, mainly working as the hype man for the events. After leaving the..

Watch: Wrestling Legend Makes AEW Debut In Special Role

I remember you! There are a lot of people to remember in wrestling history and of course some of them are going to be bigger names than others. That is the case in any wrestling promotion, but sometimes someone’s reputation is strong enough to carry over to another company. It certainly is true of the Attitude Era and that was on display this week on a big show. One of the biggest current feuds in AEW is Orange Cassidy vs. Chris Jericho. For some reason Jericho has become obsessed with destroying Cassidy once and for all but has not been able to put him away. It has kept going for a good while now, and this time around the big idea was a debate between the two. That involved a special moderator who was a wrestling legend in his own right. This week on Dynamite, Eric Bischoff made his AEW debut as the moderator for the Cassidy vs. Jericho debate. Bischoff asked five questions and had the wrestlers give their response before ultimately declaring a winner. There is no indication that Bi..

AEW Champion Jon Moxley: Stone Cold Steve Austin Revisited

For years, WWE has tried to recreate Stone Cold Steve Austin. Sometimes the efforts were very subtle and other times, not so subtle. The excitement that once followed The Texas Rattlesnake to every town WWE ran, was infectious. It caught on in a major way and spread throughout the pro wrestling world. That excitement lead WWE over WCW during The Monday Night Wars and it completely revitalized Vince McMahon’s company. It’s arguably the most memorable and most popular part of The Attitude Era. WWE has tried to do it again with other Superstars, but to no avail. But now, AEW has found its own Stone Cold and the ironic part is, he used to work for WWE. Jon Moxley is the modern day rebel that every fan can believe in. He’s tough, he’s fearless and he’s unapologetic. He is who he is and nothing can change him. When Mox makes a prediction, he delivers. He fights the good fight and he does it his way. No one can tell him what to do and seemingly no one can stop him. If that sounds familiar, ..

Rumor: Could FOX Be Ending The WWE’s PG Era?

Now this could be interesting. As you probably know, SmackDown Live is moving to the FOX Network later this year, giving WWE their biggest platform for television in decades, if not ever. It means that things could be changing in a hurry, and it’s not clear just how much those changes are going to mean. If FOX has its say though, it could mean one of the biggest changes of all. According to Rajah.com, FOX may be looking for WWE to stop being as politically correct and moving towards an edgier product. While no specifics are being given, it seems that FOX wants things to be a bit more adult, which could include a variety of things that are closer to the Attitude Era than the current PG style. WWE set themselves up as a PG promotion, meaning the only thing that would need to be done to change things is a self imposed change. It could be an interesting mixture of both eras. Check out this very cool SmackDown Live Attitude Era intro with modern stars: [This post contains video, click to..

Is the AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe Feud Going Too Far in WWE?

AJ Styles and Samoa Joe are in the midst of a very intense, very personal rivalry in WWE. Styles and Joe are putting in some great work thus far, both in the ring and on the mic but many fans are actually having a problem with the content of their conflict. As illogical as it may seem to some, this feud is receiving criticism due to things Samoa Joe has said in regard to AJ’s family. Fans are asking if Joe has gone too far with his comments. Better yet, is WWE going too far with this feud? The fact is that Styles and Joe are doing good business right now and no amount of uncomfortable heat should change that. This is not the first time that WWE has embraced controversy with a storyline of course. But it is more of a rare instance in this PG era. Styles versus Joe is a throwback to The Attitude Era in some ways, if only because of the deeply personal tone of the rivalry. Joe committed the unforgivable sin when he decided to drag AJ’s family into the feud. Styles was his usual unshakab..

X-Pac 1, 2, 360 Recap w/ Alex Riley – WWE Release, Pursuing A Career in Acting, Will He Wrestle Again? More!

<p>X-Pac opens today’s show speaking about Shane McMahon’s forced helicopter landing from last week. He says that it didn’t surprise him for a second that Shane came out of that incident uninjured, and it was amazing to see how calm Shane was when he was being interviewed after the fact.</p><p>Speaking about last Monday night’s revelation that <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/jason-jordan" title="Jason Jordan">Jason Jordan</a></strong> is Kurt Angle’s son, X-Pac says for a minute he thought the whole thing might have been a shoot. He says that Angle is known to have had relationships with African American women in the past, and the age gap definitely works out.</p><p></p><p>X-Pac welcomes Kevin Kiley Jr. (<strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/alex-riley" title="Alex Riley">Alex Riley</a></strong>) to the show.</p><p>Riley says that he was always a big fan of X-Pac from his time in WWE during the attitude era, and X-Pac always came off as a very real character who had a natural confidence in himself. X-Pac thanks him and says that he was never one to cut a masterful promo, but he was able to make his character work in different ways.</p><p>Riley informs that after he parted ways with WWE he immediately wanted to pursue acting. He says that his <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/short/" title="short">short</a></strong> stint at broadcasting in NXT was fun, but at the end of the day he wanted to venture out on his own. He was lucky to garner some interest in Hollywood right away and he soon landed a role in the Netflix series GLOW.</p>

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Paige & Del Rio Drama, Disco Inferno in WWE, Breaking Down Triple H’s Success, More!

<p>Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane and Glenn Gilbertti (Disco Inferno).</p><p>Lane asks Russo and Gilbertti for their opinions on the rumours that <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/paige" title="Paige">Paige</a></strong> was sitting ringside at Slammiversary last weekend wearing a mask in order to protect her identity. Gilbertti says that he can’t lower his IQ enough to discuss this on an intellectual level. Russo says that if that was Paige, it’s easy to tell that this was a desperate move by her in order to get out of her contract.</p><p>Paige clearly <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/wants/" title="wants">wants</a></strong> to be with her boyfriend Del Rio in Global Force Wrestling, so Russo doesn’t understand why both parties can’t get on the same page here and make that release happen. WWE has actually referenced Paige’s leaked sex tape on WWE the last couple of weeks, but then they removed those references from the replays.</p><p></p><p>Gilbertti doesn’t understand this because the average age of their fans is 54, yet they’re still acting like they have to market to a young demographic. Russo says that if this was the attitude era, Del Rio would have been signed after Paige’s tape was released, and the storyline would have consisted of Del Rio and Paige accusing <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/xavier-woods" title="Xavier Woods">Xavier Woods</a></strong> of releasing that tape. This would have been a great storyline and everyone would have been talking about it.</p>

Conversation with the Big Guy Recap – Breeze in A Dress, Ryback vs. Ultimate Warrior, Ways to Improve Wrestling, More!

<p>Ryback opens today’s show by revealing whether he misses being on the road with WWE full time. He says that sometimes he misses the live events and the guys who he developed relationships with, but he doesn’t miss television tapings and all the ‘shit’ that comes along with being on the road 300 days a year.</p><p>He says that last week’s show made some headlines due to his recollection of a backstage scenario featuring <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/tyler-breeze" title="Tyler Breeze">Tyler Breeze</a></strong>. Some people questioned the legitimacy of Ryback’s claims, but he says that he was there in person when <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/vince-mcmahon" title="Vince McMahon">Vince McMahon</a></strong> witnessed Breeze leaving an arena early, and Breeze’s stock within WWE immediately plummeted after that.</p><p></p><p>Nonetheless, he likes what WWE is doing with Breezango right now as they continue to produce entertaining segments every week. He’s still confused by the fact that Tyler Breeze is wearing a dress every week now, but he assumes that someone backstage at WWE gets their kicks from seeing Breeze in a dress.</p><p>Ryback says he <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/loved/" title="loved">loved</a></strong> the Rap Battle on Smackdown Live last week between The Usos and The New Day. He says that these types of segments are what have been missing from WWE programming lately, and the ‘R rating’ line in particular proves that anything can happen on WWE programming, similar to how fans felt about the product during the attitude era.</p>

WWE Monday Night Raw Results – July 10 2017

<p>Welcome to Monday Night Raw, one night removed from the first-ever Great Balls of Fire PPV!</p><p>The biggest talking-point coming out of Great Balls of Fire last night was the massive segment between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman. Braun won the ambulance match after Roman went for a spear and missed, sending him flying into the back of the ambulance allowing Strowman to close the doors. Roman immediately burst out of the ambulance and threw Braun inside, then proceeded to drive the ambulance into the parking lot and ram it into a production truck. Roman pretty much tried to kill Braun and walked away. Paramedics and firemen arrived and opened the ambulance up, allowing Braun to emerge bloody and beaten, but walk away under his own power. It was an incredible sight that would have been right at home in the Attitude Era. Braun looked like an absolute monster, and so did Roman…for the wrong reasons. Roman was undeniably heelish and the announcers played on this, so Roman will surely have to answer to Kurt Angle tonight.</p><p>In the main event of last night’s show, Brock Lesnar defeated <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/samoa-joe" title="Samoa Joe">Samoa Joe</a></strong> after being beat down for the better part of the match. Joe attacked Brock before the bell even rung and smashed him through the announce table. Joe then had the majority of offence throughout the match until Lesnar caught him with an F5 and took home the gold. It was a really good match that never quite reached 5th gear. Word is that we will get a number one contender match tonight between Joe and Roman, leading to a match with Brock at SummerSlam. I think it’s fair to say Joe would be the deserving and preferable winner for most fans.</p><p>Alexa Bliss also retained her Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks last night, in a match in which she dislocated her own elbow to get a cheap shot on Sasha. In the end, Sasha won the match via count-out, allowing Alexa to retain. This certainly allows the feud to continue, seemingly into SummerSlam, where maybe Nia Jax will be inserted. There’s a lot of directions the women’s division could head in right now and it’s pretty cool.</p><p><strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/the-miz" title="The Miz">The Miz</a></strong> also retained his Intercontinental Championship last night against Dean Ambrose once again. Surely this feud is over now, it’s gone on well past its peak and I think interest is pretty much non-existent. The Miz will hopefully move on to a new opponent for SummerSlam, maybe Finn Balor. Speaking of moving on, <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/sheamus" title="Sheamus">Sheamus</a></strong> & Cesaro beat The Hardy Boyz again in an Iron Man match last night. This has been a great feud but it’s expiration date arrived last night and it’s time for both teams to move on.</p><p>There’s a lot to be excited about for tonight’s Raw as we start our trek towards SummerSlam! Let us know your thoughts or feelings on our Ringside Talk app, or on the Ringside News app! Enjoy the show!</p>

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Pitching A New ‘Attitude Era’ Show to the WWE Network, Indie Workers Shortening Their Careers, More!

<p>Russo <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/opens/" title="opens">opens</a></strong> today’s show speaking about the notion that WWE’s stockholders wouldn’t want WWE to return to attitude era-like programming. WWE consistently uses the excuse that they’re a publicly traded company now, so they can’t produce that type of programming. Russo doesn’t understand that at all, because wouldn’t their stockholders want WWE to produce whatever type of programming that <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/makes/" title="makes">makes</a></strong> them the most money?</p><p></p><p>Russo says that he’s bored with all the political correctness on WWE’s programming today, and he wonders what happened to all the sexiness. It’s not like they were showing women strip naked during the attitude era, they just embraced their beautiful female roster. He doesn’t understand why WWE can’t continue to do that type of thing today.</p><p>Russo says that everything old is new again, and some of the biggest sitcoms from the 90s are making a return such as Full House and Rosanne. The attitude era is 20 years old now, and he knows for a fact that there are a lot of fans who enjoyed that era. He has heard from numerous fans that they only subscribe to the WWE Network to <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/watch/" title="watch">watch</a></strong> the old attitude era programming.</p>

The Taz Show Recap – Raw Analysis, Rollins’ Set For A Big Year, Presentation of Finn Balor, More!

<h1>Block 1:</h1><p>Taz opens today’s show by discussing <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/braun-strowman" title="Braun Strowman">Braun Strowman</a></strong>’s elbow injury. Taz says that he believes WWE made a mistake by showing Strowman in the hospital bed on RAW last night, as he thought it made Strowman look too ‘human’. He also doesn’t think that Strowman will be out for 6 months like WWE has announced.</p><p>He doesn’t think that <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/Roman-Reigns" title="Roman Reigns">Roman Reigns</a></strong> will win the Fatal 5-way match at Extreme Rules, because he believes Reigns will go right back into another match with Strowman when he returns from his injury. Taz thinks Strowman’s recovery time will be closer to 2 months than the 6 that WWE announced.</p><p></p><p>A listener calls into the show and says he enjoyed Goldust turning on R-Truth on last night’s show. Taz says that this is a ‘C’ angle, and WWE needs to have those angles in order to keep everyone relevant. He says that having captivating angles throughout the entire roster is what made the attitude era so successful in his opinion.</p><p>Another listener calls into the show and says that both <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/alexa-bliss" title="Alexa Bliss">Alexa Bliss</a></strong> and A.J. Styles had good years last year as rookies, and he wonders if that gives WWE the confidence to push talent quicker. Taz says that wrestling  is a work, and Bliss and Styles had good years last year because the company pushed them. If WWE has faith in a performer, they’re going to book them to win more matches than they lose.</p>

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Dave Meltzer in the Guinness Book of World Records, Asuka Compared to Goldberg, How Much Did Russo Make Writing...

<p>Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane.</p><p>Russo points out the Meltzer reported this past week that <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/alberto-del-rio" title="Alberto Del Rio">Alberto Del Rio</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/paige" title="Paige">Paige</a></strong> had an argument somewhere in Florida. Russo says that this is not news, and it’s just another example of a wrestling ‘journalist’ who is making up a story when there’s no story to be told.</p><p>Lane points out that someone tweeted Dave Meltzer this past week, asking him for his opinion on Russo. Meltzer’s response was, “Life’s too short to worry about people desperate for attention”. Russo says that Meltzer’s responses to these fans are so lame. Russo adds that for someone who’s starving for attention, he’s doing a poor job because he just moved into a <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/cabin/" title="cabin">cabin</a></strong> in the woods.</p><p></p><p>Lane reads some comments from a recent Reddit thread, where fans discuss the differences between the attitude era and the today’s product.</p><p>One fan says that this era’s product is superior to the attitude era because there are better stories, promos, and matches. In addition, the attitude era was a racist, sexist product which was overly aggressive in an attempt to appeal to the ECW fanbase.</p><p>Russo says that he can’t even name one storyline that’s occurring on RAW at the moment. RAW was drawing a 6.0-7.0 rating back during the attitude era, and the notion that they were trying to copy ECW which was drawing a 0.8 rating doesn’t make any sense to him.</p>
