John Cena Returning To WWE For Final Smackdown Of 2022

The champ is back! According to a report from Variety, John Cena will be making his return to WWE on the final Smackdown of 2022. He will be appearing on the December 30 show, which will take place at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. From the report: This will mark Cena’s second appearance in WWE in 2022, as he previously returned to the sports entertainment giant in June during an episode of “Monday Night Raw” to celebrate his 20 year anniversary with the company. He did not wrestle a match during that appearance, but rather spoke in the ring about his time with WWE while also appearing in backstage segments. In terms of working in the ring, Cena most recently embarked on the “Summer of Cena” tour in 2021, which culminated in a celebrated match against WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at the annual “SummerSlam” pay-per-view in August 2021. Cena has had a busy few years in his acting career, most notably starring in the title role of the DC series “Peacemaker” at HBO Max in 2..

Antonio Inoki Passes Away At Age 79

We have some sad news to report as WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Antonio Inoki has passed away at age 79. From WWE.com: One of the key figures in the history of Japanese wrestling, Antonio Inoki was among the most respected men in sports entertainment and a bona fide legend in his homeland. Born in Yokohama, Japan in 1943, Inoki grew into a natural in-ring competitor. The incredible squared circle figure found his greatest success in New Japan Pro Wrestling, a promotion he founded in 1972. Over the course of the next two decades, Inoki built NJPW into the most successful wrestling company in Asia. Utilizing talented Japanese competitors like Tatsumi Fujinami and Riki Choshu, innovative high-flyers like Tiger Mask and Dynamite Kid, and American Superstars like Bob Backlund and Vader, the young promoter created a product that was unique, influential, and far ahead of its time. In addition to running the company, Inoki himself was one of the top stars in NJPW, carrying the cha..

WWE Changes Longstanding Rule About “Dirty Words”

Get your scripts updated. WWE has been undergoing a variety of changes and some of them are going to be felt for a long time to come. Most of these changes have been behind the scenes, but a good many of those are going to have an impact on what happens in front of the camera. That seems to be the case again, as some longstanding rules might be relaxed a bit. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is relaxing its rule on the use of the terms “wrestler” and “wrestling” in promos. Previously, the terms needed prior authorization to be used but now the terms are no longer considered dirty. This is said to be part of the changes taking place in WWE, many of which are seen as positives. Triple H is now in charge of both creative and talent relations and is said to be someone who cares about talent. Opinion: This is the kind of change that seems like the most logical idea in the world. At the end of the day, only WWE would ever think to call itself sports entertainment rather ..

Editorial: The Legacy of Vince McMahon

The most important person in the history of professional wrestling is stepping away. Over the weekend, Vince McMahon announced that he was retiring after over 40 years of being in charge of World Wrestling Entertainment. The man who made WWE a global brand and revolutionized the term “sports entertainment” has decided to step down from the empire that he created. Whenever something like this occurs, and a person of this magnitude takes himself out of the equation, the first thing that many people immediately do is reflect on his life. And that’s what I would like to do today, as well as ask the important question: What will be the legacy of Vince McMahon? I always feel it’s important to acknowledge all the incredible contributions of a person as they prepare to take their final bow. Though, to be fair, with Vince, this may not be the end, as we know how erratic of a person he can be. However, it is important to reflect on what this man has done not only for professional wrestling but..

Here is the Bloodline to get things going. Roman says WWE runs sports entertainment in New York. He runs WWE, so therefore, he runs New York City and Madison Square Garden. According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, prior to WWE’s press conference in which they made the announcement of Wrestlemania 36, the company handed a series of do’s and don’ts to the mainstream media reporters that were covering the event. It contained a set of instructions about the verbiage that media outlets can and cannot use when writing reports about WWE. Here is the list: 1) When referring to our talent, we ask that you refer to them as WWE Superstars both for the men and women and NOT as “professional wrestlers;” 2) As of March 2016, our female Superstars are NO longer referred to as WWE Divas, so please call them WWE Superstars; 3) Please refer to our company as WWE and NOT World Wrestling Entertainment; 4) Please do not refer to our company as “the WWE,” but rather “WWE.” 5) Please do NOT use the term “professional wrestling,” instead using WWE or Sports Entertainment to describe our brand (E.G. “We have..

Former WWE superstar Enzo Amore has released a music video for his new rap song, “Phoenix.” Amore, who is now going by the rap name “Real1,” has included a few lyrics that are taking shots at the woman who accused him of rape earlier this year. You can take a look at the rap video below: [This post contains video, click to play] Below are some highlights from the video (h/t to Pro Wrestling Sheet for the transcription): The video begins with a wrestling fan arguing with his mother from the basement during the “25th anniversary of sports entertainment.” He then gets a breaking news alert and rushes to his computer — obviously in reference to Amore being sent home from WWE before Raw 25. Some noteworthy lyrics include: “They cry tears of joy at my funeral. Still I rise from the ashes like a phoenix. Middle finger to the sky grippin’ my …. consensual penis. Lyin’ ass hoe out in Phoenix. When I say that shit I mea..

Rush first explained how he got in contact with WWE: “He just told me to keep working hard. Keeping pushing. Good things happen to people who wait.’ He definitely noticed my hard work and the passion that I had to be a professional wrestler and be one of those top-tier athletes and top-tier wrestlers in the sports entertainment industry. That was my first interaction with anybody from WWE.” Canyon Semen of WWE Talent Relations would call Rush just a year later to offer him a contract, without a tryout. From here he would attend the Performance Center in Florida, four years after graduating Full Sail University: “WWE took notice. Hulk Hogan Reveals His Three Biggest Moments While In WWE

Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan was a guest on CBS Philly’s Howard Eskin Show, where he discussed what the three biggest moments of his career have been. Hogan first explained how he developed the character he made famous in WWE: “I had no idea [Hulkamania] was going to happen. When I got into the [pro] wrestling business, I loved the business. I was a fan, number one. But I just wanted to get into the business and be good enough, earn a good living, and be very supportive of the artform of [pro] wrestling. Now, I’d guess you’d call it sports entertainment. But the thing that was really crazy was I’ve always had a good heart, I’ve always been a good person, and I just was trying to find a character that would be that ultimate American, positive character. And, actually, Vince McMahon, Sr. helped me with the name, ‘Hulk Hogan’. I already had the name ‘Hulk’, but he gave me the ‘Hogan’ part to represent the Irish community. Yeah, I was looking for this All-American character that would be su..

Why Brock Lesnar Must Become A Free Agent

Rumours have been circulating this week that Brock Lesnar will return to UFC. There is also an accompanying rumour that Lesnar will not resign his contract after Wrestlemania 34. Even if these are simply rumours WWE and Vince McMahon must be scared. Lesnar is sports entertainment’s biggest draw bar none. He is a mega star and a huge asset to the company. However, his career is winding down and there is still infinite value in Lesnar over the next year or two. His value will be used best though if he becomes a free agent and here’s why.

More Dream Matches

Samoa Joe vs Brock Lesnar was a legitimate dream match. WWE capitalised on this feud and booked it perfectly from Extreme Rules all the way to Great Balls of Fire. This feud proved Joe to be a superstar and also that Brock Lesnar dream feuds are a necessity. Dream matches with Brock Lesnar create superstars. They give wrestlers a career defining match as well fans exactly what they are desperate for.

That said, there are not that many dream feuds left for Lesnar on RAW. The only real one is Finn Balor which is as dream worthy as Samoa Joe was. Behind Balor is – at a stretch of the word dream – Bray Wyatt and even Braun Strowman. These feuds must happen in Lesnar’s time left in WWE without a doubt, particularly with Balor. On Smackdown Live however there are more. Three legitimate dream matches face Lesnar on Smackdown Live. Kevin Owens, AJ Styles and of course there is also Shinsuke Nakamura. On a smaller level there is also stars like Corbin and Zayn who would likely be excellent opponents for Lesnar.

Heyman can simply announce the Beast Incarnate will do what he wants and go where he wants. This opens the door for so many feuds and matches that WWE must capitalise on. Especially now that Lesnar is likely in the very end of his WWE career. With Lesnar fighting only a limited number of times a year, now is the time to do this. If not for the wrestlers opposite Lesnar, then for us the fans.

Steve Austin Says WWE Killed Lana’s Gimmick

Steve Austin was vocal on a recent installment of his podcast regarding WWE booking Naomi to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Lana at the Money in the Bank event. He made the following remarks:

“Naomi deserves better, the title deserves better. Lana wasn’t up for this task at hand, at this point in her career. I thought she had much more mystique as the valet, whatever the term is, with Rusev. Man, they kind of killed her gimmick off, and reinvented her, and I just liked her the way she was. So, if she wants to be in the ring, that’s more power to her, but a lot of the stuff I got on Twitter was, ‘Hey man. For a first match, she did a lot better than I expected.’ Ok. As I say that, good for her. But as a company who’s striving for excellence in sports entertainment/professional wrestling, the best of the best belong on a pay-per-view.”

You can listen to the podcast here.

Triple H Invites Mayweather & McGregor to RAW

Triple H recently spoke with Sky Sports. Here are some highlights from the interview.

The announcement of Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor in a boxing match: “I think that is the – look I’ll go a step further and say all sports is entertainment, the news is entertainment today, it’s just the way of the world. This is what people do with their time. It’s no different. I think there is an interest level there. Can a world class boxer, probably the best ever, can he stand in the ring with an MMA guy and can that MMA guy bring his striking skills up to the level of someone, like say, a Floyd Mayweather? The one thing it will be, beyond a shadow of a doubt, is entertaining. One thing Floyd Mayweather is, is entertaining. One thing Conor McGregor is, is entertaining, and it’s funny that you say it’s sports entertainment. I’d invite both guys, that really want to showcase what they do, I invite both guys to come to Monday Night RAW because there is no bigger platform that they can have to show the world, and tell the world, who they are and why they’re the man.”

Previously Working With Mayweather: “Yeah, Floyd got involved then. I trained Floyd to step into the ring with The Big Show, which was a big highlight for me, and he did. He got it the ring at our Super Bowl, Floyd is a big fan and has a huge respect for what we do, we have stayed in touch over the years, and here he is getting thrown out of the ring by the Big Show. At the level of athlete that he’s at, for Floyd to agree to that kind of stuff was amazing for us, but you know he’s a huge fan and couldn’t have been more engaged in what we do. The Mayweather / McGregor fight, people can say what they want, but it’ll be entertaining.”

Possibility of doing a match with boxing star Gennady Golovkin (GGG): “It would be the perfect fight, we have a little beef over the three letter thing going on, maybe. It’s funny you should – we had a date at Madison Square Garden for GGG’s last fight and we made an arrangement to allow GGG to have that date for his last fight – there’s a little bit of history there. I’d love to get in the ring with him and see what we can do.”
