Ring Of Honor Date: March 9, 2023 Location: Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman We’re still on the first taping of this new show so things are likely to look like they did last week. The wrestling itself was pretty good, but the length of the show was quite the drag. They did offer something big at the end with Eddie Kingston showing up to challenge Claudio Castagnoli, so there is at least a path forward in the main event. Let’s get to it. TV Title: Samoa Joe vs. Tony Deppen Joe is defending and works on the wrist to start. For some reason Deppen strikes away, earning himself a beating in the corner. Deppen fights back though and hits a running corner dropkick. A knee gives Deppen two more but Joe Rock Bottoms him out of the corner. Occasionally you will see them last for a very long time while others come and go rather quickly. It can be interesting to see how different title reigns go in various ways and now another one has come to an end after a few unique twists with everything involved. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Get Your Bids In: AEW Star’s Contract Reportedly Up Soon, WWE Interested Over the weekend at Revolution, Wardlow defeated Samoa Joe to win the TNT Title for the second time. Wardlow then went on to defend the title against Powerhouse Hobbs this week on Dynamite after Hobbs won the Face of the Revolution ladder match to earn a title shot. Hobbs went on to win the title with the help of QT Marshall, winning his first title in AEW. The loss ends Wardlow’s reign at three days, the shortest in the title’s history. This was a big deal. w Unfortunately bad things can happen occasionally, and that is the case again for an AEW star. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: And Done: AEW Stable Officially Disbands On Sunday at AEW Revolution, Wardlow defeated Samoa Joe to regain the TNT Title. This week, Wardlow posted a video to Twitter, revealing that someone broke into his rental car and stole his bags. These bags contained all of his wrestling gear, from his attire to his boots to the TNT Title itself. There is no word on if AEW has another version of the belt. This is the second time that an AEW title was stolen, as the World Title belt was stolen during Chris Jericho’s reign. It was eventually returned by someone who found it elsewhere. That was rough. That is the kind of thing that can make all the difference in the world to a wrestler as it makes them seem like bigger stars than ever before. Multiple new champions were crowned over the weekend as a few title changes took place. Dynamite Date: February 1, 2023 Location: Nutter Center, Dayton, Ohio Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz We are about a month away from Revolution and that means it is time to start hammering down the card. You can probably guess a good bit of it from here and that is a strong sign for the show. This week will feature a pair of title matches, including Jade Cargill’s latest conquest and Samoa Joe getting his rematch for the TNT Title. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Page Moxley comes through the crowd with Wheeler Yuta and….his own father. Moxley starts the fight in the crowd and takes it into the audience as we are waiting on the opening bell. Page gets in a whip into a barricade and they keep brawling back to ringside. Moxley wraps the chair around Page’s leg but Page throws said chair at Moxley to take over. They finally get in the ring and slug it out, with Moxley’s eye busted open. Hand it over. Titles are the most important part of any wrestling promotion and give the fans a good baseline of what they are seeing. A wrestler holding a championship means that they are one of the most important people in the company. As a result, a title change can be a big deal and that is what we saw this week, as a former champion got the gold back around his waist. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Sasha Banks Makes New Japan Debut, First Match Set The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Darby Allin regain the TNT Title from Samoa Joe in Allin’s hometown of Seattle, Washington. That is somewhat long overdue and the question is will AEW have a good show to back it up. The likely main event is Samoa Joe defending the TNT Title against hometown boy Darby Allin in a rematch from a few weeks back. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence, with remixed themed song. There is a new set with new graphics. Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Starks Feeling out process to start with Starks slapping him in the face and pounding away in the corner. Keep It Going: AEW Adds Two More Title Matches To Full Gear

And so, it grows. We are less than a week away from AEW Full Gear and normally that would mean the card is all but set. However, that is not the case with this show as there are several wrestlers who have nothing to do for the show so far. AEW has a tendency to make some matches at the last minute and now they are adding some more matches to the show’s card. There were two more matches added to the Full Gear card this week on AEW Dynamite. First up, Death Triangle issued a challenge to an unnamed team for a Trios Titles match, with the Elite being announced as the challenges. Also on the show, a three way brawl broke out between TNT Champion Wardlow, Samoa Joe and Powerhouse Hobbs. Three New Stars Make AEW Debuts On Rampage (Contains Mild Spoilers)

They’re up next. AEW has built up a rather diverse and talented roster in its time. The company features a mixture of young, up and coming stars, current names and veterans, who have come together to create a mixture of matches and wrestlers. New names still need to be added though and that was the case again this week as three more names made their AEW debuts. The main event of this week’s AEW Rampage saw FTR and Shawn Spears defeat the Embassy in a six man tag match. Following the match, the Kingdom, comprised of Mike Bennett and Matt Taven with Maria Kanellis, interrupted in their AEW debuts. The Kingdom and the Embassy then joined forces to attack FTR until Samoa Joe and Wardlow made the save. This comes less than a week after the Kingdom reportedly finished up with Impact Wrestling. Opinion: You can’t say that Tony Khan isn’t committed to the Ring Of Honor stuff as the brand seems to have landed even more stars. Hurricane Ian Causes Several Changes To AEW Dynamite And Rampage

That’s a valid reason. Wrestling shows take a lot of preparation and the higher you go in the wrestling industry, the more effort they require. That is certainly true of weekly national television shows, and sometimes there are factors that impact the show that are beyond anyone’s control. That was the case this week as several names missed a television taping due to a serious situation. According to Fightful Select, several wrestlers missed this week’s AEW Dynamite and Rampage taping due to the impact of Hurricane Ian, which has been ravaging Florida. Two of the names who were unable to make the show were Swerve Strickland and Samoa Joe, with several others likely not being present. Earlier this week, AEW President Tony Khan excused any wrestler who lived in the hurricane’s path from being at the show. AEW Champion Reportedly Injured During Rampage Tapings (Contains Mild Spoilers)

It can happen to anyone. An injury is the kind of thing that can take any wrestler out of action in the blink of an eye. You never want to see someone get hurt but no matter how well trained a wrestler may be, there is always the chance that someone is going to be injured. That might have taken place this week in a show that has yet to actually air on television. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Wardlow suffered an injury, possibly to his leg, at some point during the taping of AEW Rampage Grand Slam. Wardlow teamed with Samoa Joe to face Tony Nese and Josh Woods. There is no word on if the injury took place during or after the match, though Wardlow was able to take part in a post match angle. The match will air this Friday night on Rampage. Opinion: Hopefully Wardlow isn’t too badly hurt, if he is hurt whatsoever, because you never want to see someone put on the shelf. Samoa Joe Also Misses AEW Meet And Greet But This Is A Bit Different

Him too? One of the biggest stories of the weekend has been Maxwell Jacob Friedman no showing a meet and greet at AEW’s Double Or Nothing fan fest. That brings up all kinds of questions of what is going on with Friedman’s future, which could cause some issues up and down the company. It turns out that Friedman is not the only person who was absent from an event this weekend, though it is a different situation. In addition to Friedman missing the meet and greet, reports have surfaced that Samoa Joe missed his meet and greet as well. However, according to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Samoa Joe’s absence was due to a communication issue rather than any kind of problem between the two sides. There is nothing to suggest that Samoa Joe has any kind of issue or heat with AEW and he is scheduled to face Adam Cole at Double Or Nothing. Crown Him: New Match Set For AEW Double Or Nothing

The card keeps growing. We are less than four days away from AEW Double Or Nothing and the card is all but set. The matches have been made for quite awhile not, but this time around there are some gaps that still need to be filled in. This includes a few tournament finals, and now we know who will be taking part in one of them, with a prestigious prize on the line. This week on AEW Dynamite, Samoa Joe defeated Kyle O’Reilly to advance to the finals of the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. As a result of his win, Samoa Joe will face Adam Cole at Double Or Nothing on Sunday May 29. The match will mark the finals of the first ever edition of the tournament, as well as the first time that the two of them have faced off in their careers. Opinion: This is the kind of match that is certainly intriguing, as I could see either of them winning. Note On The Details Of AEW Star’s Contract With The Company

Stick around for a bit. We are coming up on the three year anniversary of AEW’s first ever event and the company is still going strong. The rise of AEW has changed quite a few things for all kinds of fans but also for the wrestlers themselves. Now wrestlers are able to have a different place to go aside from just WWE and one such star is going to be sticking around for a long time. AEW star Kyle O’Reilly appeared on the Toddcast and revealed that he has signed a five year deal with the company. It is not clear if this is a new deal or the deal that he signed when he came into the company back in December 2021. O’Reilly has gone on to become part of the Undisputed Elite and will be facing Samoa Joe in the semifinals of the men’s Owen hart Foundation tournament. Opinion: Good for O’Reilly to get a deal that he seems happy with and that he can be on for a long time to come. You don’t get to see a lot of people get that kind of security and O’Reilly is talented enough that he deserves it..
