REVIEW: Elimination Chamber 2019: It’s Still Running Wild

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Elimination Chamber 2019 Date: February 17, 2019 Location: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young, Tom Phillips, Percy Watson It’s the first of two stops on the Road to Wrestlemania and that means we’ll be seeing a big steel structure. In this case it’s for the WWE Championship and the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. The structure alone makes this a little more interesting and hopefully it’s good on top of that. Let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Cruise..

REVIEW: Crown Jewel 2018: This Is A New Low

Crown Jewel Date: November 2, 2018 Location: King Saud University, Stadium, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young We’re back on the other side of the world this time and things aren’t exactly going well. The focal point of the show is D-Generation X vs. the Brothers of Destruction with Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement in a detail that has been forgotten in the whole ordeal. Other than that we’re going to have a new Universal Champion today as Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar face off for the title vacated by Roman Reigns. Let’s get to it. The video screen is in the shape of a crown for a nice touch. Kickoff Show: United States Title: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rusev Nakamura is defending. Rusev throws him into the corner for some right hands and a shoulder to the ribs, followed by a suplex for one. A kick to the knee cuts Rusev down and we hit the front facelock. That stays on for a good while until Rusev pops up with a spinwheel kick. The Mach..

Renee Paquette (Young) Makes AEW Debut In Familiar Role

Welcome to the team. There are a lot of important roles in a wrestling show and some of them do not get the credit that they deserve. One of the most important groups is the broadcast team, including the backstage interviewers. They are often there to guide the fans in a certain directions with the questions that they ask and one of the better interviewers around today is no longer a free agent. AEW President Tony Khan has announced that Renee Paquette (formerly known as Renee Young) has officially signed a deal with the company and joined the broadcast team. Paquette made her debut this week on Dynamite and conducted multiple interviews throughout the show. Paquette is best known for her time with WWE, where she was a backstage interviewer and color commentator. She is married to AEW World Champion Jon Moxley. Welcome to the team!@ReneePaquette is ALL ELITE! See you soon coming up at 8pm ET/7pm ET on @TBSNetwork TONIGHT! pic.twitter.com/Jwcq58P6RI — Tony Khan (@TonyKhan) October 12..

REVIEW: Hell In A Cell 2018: Lock Them Up

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Hell in a Cell 2018 Date: September 16, 2018 Location: AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves, Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton Welcome to the first show of the three that WWE is currently building. In this case we have the show designed around carnage and that could mean a few things. The show hasn’t exactly blown me away on paper but maybe they’ll surprise me here. There are two matches inside the big red cage tonight so let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Smackdown Tag Team ..

Former And Current WWE Names Backstage At This Week’s AEW Dynamite

I know you! WWE and AEW are the two most popular and successful wrestling promotions in the United States and nothing else is really in the same ballpark at the moment. The company features some of the biggest names in wrestling, but there are several who are not working for either company right now. Some of those names were backstage at AEW this week, along with a current WWE star. According to Fightful Select, several former WWE names, plus a current WWE star, were backstage at this week’s AEW Dynamite. Dolph Ziggler was backstage visiting friends, as well as his brother Ryan Nemeth. In addition, CJ Perry (formerly known as Lana) was backstage with her husband Miro, along with Renee Paquette (formerly known as Renee Young), with her husband Jon Moxley. None of the names were mentioned on the broadcast and there is nothing to suggest that any are coming to AEW. Opinion: This isn’t much of a surprise as all three of the names have family working for AEW. It is nice to see some of the..

REVIEW: NXT Takeover: Fatal 4 Way: The Sequel

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? NXT Takeover: Fatal Fourway Date: September 11, 2014 Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida Attendance: 400 Commentators: Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, Renee Young The question here is can they pull it off three times in a row. Arrival and the first Takeover were both outstanding shows that have set quite the standard for NXT, but now it’s up to them to pull it off one more time. The title tells you all you need to know about the main event with NXT Champion Adrian Neville defending against Sami Zayn, ..

Wrestlemania XXXV Date: April 7, 2019 Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey Attendance: 82,265 Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young, Byron Saxton, Tom Phillips America the Beautiful: Yolanda Adams We’re back to this show after a year away and I’m not sure what to think about this one. I wasn’t in the stadium for this one and for once that is making me remember the show a little bit better. This whole thing is centered around a few matches, as Wrestlemania always tends to be. Let’s..

REVIEW: Clash Of Champions 2019: And Then The Scary Part

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Clash Of Champions 2019 Date: September 15, 2019 Location: Spectrum Center, Charlotte, North Carolina Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton, Tom Phillips Even though titles are an everyday part of wrestling, we have here a full show all about them, because most shows need to have a theme these days. There are a lot of matches crammed onto this show, though thankfully they have moved King of the Ring to Raw tomorrow to save some space. Let’s get to it. I was in the arena for this show..

REVIEW: Super Showdown 2018: Go Under Down Big (Or Something Like That)

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Super Show-Down Date: October 6, 2018 Location: Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, Australia Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves We’re at the latest big international show here and that means…well it’s hard to say actually. There’s a lot going on at the moment in WWE but they have a tendency to turn these shows into a glorified house show with almost nothing happening. Hopefully WWE has figured that out and knows that we need to actually get something important on the show. Let’s get to it. Th..

REVIEW: Evolution: They Deserve It (Rhythmic Clapping)

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Evolution Date: October 28, 2018 Location: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, New York Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Beth Phoenix It’s time for another historical one with the first ever all female pay per view. This has been long in the making and the card is pretty close to being stacked, though at seven matches with four hours to fill, we could be in for something interesting. The only mystery isn’t so much what Stephanie McMahon will say but how long she’ll take to say it. Let’s get to it..

REVIEW: Extreme Rules 2019: Becky And Brock And Brock And Becky

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Extreme Rules 2019 Date: July 14, 2019 Location: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves, Michael Cole, Renee Young We’re finally wrapping up a long stretch with what feels like a show from one company or another every week for months. This is a show built around violence and a full three matches out of the twelve have some form of gimmick that includes violence. The card doesn’t look bad though and hopefully it works out. Let’s get to it. Kickoff Show..

REVIEW: Money In The Bank 2019: Climb Faster

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Money In The Bank 2019 Date: May 19, 2019 Location: XL Center, Hartford, Connecticut Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves, Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton It’s time to climb, even if the build for the show hasn’t been as aggressive as previous years. The last few weeks have been all about the Wild Card Rule and Counting Lessons With WWE, meaning the ladder matches have felt like afterthoughts. No wonder this one has been one of the least frustrating. Let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Rowan/Daniel Bryan vs. ..

Why Did Renee Young Leave WWE?

She taught us how to say goodbye. Earlier this year, Renee Young left WWE after 8 years with the company; her final event was to be a part of the pre-show of the this year’s edition of SummerSlam. But why did she decide to leave the company? Young answered this question and more when she recently sat down with Jason Agnew and Mark Andrada of the Sunday Night Main Event podcast. Below are some highlights from the interview: On leaving WWE: “I’ve been there for eight years and I kinda did everything I could possibly do. I felt like I was bouncing around and continually trying to carve this path out for myself and I feel like I hit my ceiling,” admitted Renee. “My strength is being a TV host and as I’ve realized more and more that after doing commentary for a year plus, that was really rocky for me. I didn’t enjoy doing it and then not really having a solid role on SmackDown when I was listed as being a Special Contributor, whatever that’s supposed to mean. Then that never actually tur..

Renee Young Reveals WWE Heat Over Coronavirus Diagnosis

Are you surprised? The Coronavirus has changed the way a lot of things work in wrestling, including having everyone associated with wrestling and the wrestling companies having to do a variety of things to keep the virus from spreading throughout the company. This has gone fairly well in WWE over the last few weeks, but there was a bit of an outbreak over the summer. Some wrestlers made their situation public and that did not go well. Back in August, Renee Young confirmed that she was leaving WWE after an eight year run with the company. It was a pretty big loss for the company as Young can do almost everything asked of her and that is the kind of thing you can’t get from almost anyone else most of the time. Young was in the news again earlier this year due to announcing her Coronavirus diagnosis, but it turns out that WWE wasn’t exactly pleased. Young was a guest on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast and spoke about making her diagnosis public. WWE was not pleased with her reveali..

Weekly WWE Series On Hiatus Over Coronavirus

You knew something like this was coming. The world is being shake hard by the Coronavirus and that means that everything is up in the air at the moment. You never know how things are going to go next and that means things are going to get even worse for the time being. The wrestling world has been hurt as well, and now we have the latest casualty. WWE has so many shows going on at the same time that it’s almost hard to keep track of them all. With so many shows available, there are only so many resources to go around and that can cause a lot of problems. Given the current situation, it would not be surprising to see a lot of changes to these shows, and now one of the bigger hammers that is going to drop has hit. The WWE on FOX Twitter account has announced that production will be suspended on all FOX studio shows, including WWE Backstage, due to the Coronavirus. The show, hosted by Renee Young and Booker T., with a rotating cast of contributors, debuted in November and aired every Tu..

Main Event Results – July 4, 2019

Main Event Date: July 4, 2019 Location: American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas Commentators: Byron Saxton, Renee Young It’s a holiday edition of the show and that isn’t likely to matter as this is mainly an international show. Things got a lot more interesting this week on Raw and hopefully that carries over to here as well. Smackdown was its usual slog of a two hour show but it’s not like Smackdown means anything around here. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Dana Brooke vs. Sarah Logan It’s trilogy time and we even get a recap of their previous matches. Logan kicks her in the face to start and hits a few slams, setting up some howling. We’re already in the chinlock, drawing a rare DANA chant. Dana sends her outside for a cartwheel elbow to the face, followed by the Wade Barrett middle rope suplex into a suplex. A headscissors sets up a rollup for two on Logan, who is right back with the standing Texas Cloverleaf. That’s broken up as well so it’s the cartwheel splash for two on L..

Monday Night Raw Results – April 29, 2019

Monday Night Raw Date: April 29, 2019 Location: Rupp Arena, Lexington, Kentucky Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves It’s a homecoming show for me as Rupp Arena hasn’t hosted a Raw since 2010, which was the first Raw there since 2000. Since I live ten minutes from the arena, it was rather nice to not have such a long drive home. Now the problem with that is it was a long show, but that’s Raw for you. Let’s get to it. Here’s Alexa Bliss to announce the men’s Money in the Bank participants. After explaining the concept for the uninitiated, here are the participants: Braun Strowman, Ricochet (Kentucky boy), Drew McIntyre and Baron Corbin (Bliss: “He is the former acting General Manager of Monday Night Raw. Former Golden Gloves….you know I’m not going to list the rest of his accolades. It’s Baron Corbin.”). Baron wastes no time in insulting the fans by promising to become a two time contract winner. Ricochet: “Or is that two time loser?” The insults abound, with McIntyr..

Monday Night Raw Live Coverage And Results – April 22, 2019

Monday Night Raw Date: April 22, 2019 Location: Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines, Iowa Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young It’s kind of a new world around here as we have the first show with all the new talent brought over in the Superstar Shakeup. That could be a good or a bad thing, but given how many changes they’ve managed to make since the Shakeup took place, your guess is as good as mine about what they’re doing here. Let’s get to it. Tonight it’s a pair of triple threat matches with the winners facing off later in the night for the #1 contendership to the Universal Title. Here’s HHH to open things up but before he can say anything, Universal Champion Seth Rollins (the hometown boy) joins him. We get a quick hug before Rollins gets to soak in the cheers. Rollins talks about everything he’s been through in recent weeks, including stomping Brock Lesnar’s bucket head three times at Wrestlemania. HHH seems impressed but we pause for a BURN IT DOWN chant. The landsc..

Monday Night Raw Live Coverage And Results – April 1, 2019

Monday Night Raw Date: April 1, 2019 Location: Capital One Arena, Washington DC Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young It’s the go home show for Wrestlemania and the big story is….Stephanie McMahon, who will be making some kind of major announcement about the upcoming main event. There’s a good chance that it’s going to be the addition of a winner take all stipulation, but you never can tell around here. Other than that, Brock Lesnar and Batista will be around to actually promote their matches. Let’s get to it. Here’s Stephanie McMahon to open things up. She’s adding herself to the match but cuts off the booing by saying it’s an April Fool’s joke. There really is breaking news though: whoever wins the main event of Wrestlemania leaves with both titles because it’s Winner Take All. Here are Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman for a chat. Heyman does his introduction (Heyman: “Don’t worry I’ll be doing this again next week too.”) before talking about how appropriate the Winner..
