Monday Night Raw Results – January 30, 2021

Monday Night Raw Date: January 30, 2023 Location: BOK Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma Commentators: Corey Graves, Kevin Patrick It’s the first show after the Royal Rumble and that means we are going to be seeing a lot of build towards Wrestlemania. Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley are the Royal Rumble winners and are on their way to Los Angeles, but the Sami Zayn situation is going to have to be resolved at some point. Let’s get to it. We open with a look at Cody Rhodes returning and winning the Royal Rumble on Saturday. Here is Cody Rhodes to get things going. Cody soaks in the cheers and asks what we want to talk about. Rhodes has been doing this for over fifteen years and he started in Ohio Valley Wrestling. There is a sign on their building that says “tomorrow’s superstars today”. He remembers getting ready to go in on his first day and thinking he would be WWE Champion in two years and he would be the next John Cena. If he could talk to his 19 year old self, he would tell him that it would ..

VIDEO: WWE Pays Tribute To 47 Year Old Star On 20th Anniversary Of His Debut

He’s earned it. There is a constant stream of new stars coming into WWE but there is no way of knowing who might be the next breakout star. Back in 2002, WWE had perhaps the most successful rookie class in its history, as several future World Champions joined the promotion in the same year. There was one who did not get the same recognition, though now things might be changing. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: WWE Officially Announces Special Match For Royal Rumble WWE has released a video celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Shelton’s Benjamin’s debut with the company. The video includes several wrestlers talking about Benjamin’s career and how well he has done over his time with the company. Benjamin was part of the rookie class of 2002 along with John Cena, Batista, Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton and trained with them in Ohio Valley Wrestling, debuting on December 26, 2002. This is something special. Check out the video, plus some of Benjamin’s better matches: [This post contains..

Netflix Reportedly Debuting Wrestling Series, Could Open Door For Major Streaming Deal

Add it to the list. The rise of the internet and streaming services have changed the way wrestling works. Fans are now able to see all of the content that they want with almost no limitations, as wrestling from around the world is now open before them. This includes even smaller territories, but now one of them might be leading to a much bigger broadcasting deal down the road. According to Fightful Select, a previously rumored deal between Netflix and Ohio Valley Wrestling would include a special behind the scenes show. The deal also includes the rights of first refusal for Ohio Valley Wrestling’s televisions rights. Should Netflix get into the live streaming business, they could be a potential bidder for the rights to WWE or AEW programming. WWE’s deals with USA and FOX and AEW’s deal with WarnerMedia all expire in 2024. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that could be a game changer for the industry. I don’t know if Ohio Valley Wrestling is going to set the streaming world on fire,..

Former WWE Star Planning Full Time Return To Wrestling

Back to it. Retirements in wrestling are one of the bigger moments you will see, as it means, at least in theory, that a wrestler won’t be around any longer. Granted that is just in theory, as wrestlers rarely stay out of the ring forever when they first announce their retirement. That seems to be the case again, as another former star is wanting to get back in the ring. According to PWInsider.com, former WWE star Mike Mondo is planning a full time return to the ring starting in 2022. Mondo has not wrestled full time since 2019 and is best known for his time as part of the Spirit Squad. He wrestled for WWE from 2005 until 2008, mainly in Ohio Valley Wrestling. There is no word on where he might be making appearances or when his first match back would take place. Mondo certainly had a career of his own. Check out some of his time in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: Th..

WATCH: John Cena Discusses Upcoming WWE Return

The anticipation builds. There are only a handful of wrestlers over the years to become the face of WWE. You can probably count the wrestlers who accomplished this feat on one hand and that puts them in a pretty elite group. It means a lot to see one of them making an appearance, and now it seems that WWE is getting ready for such a return from one of its biggest stars ever. John Cena appeared on the Tonight Show on Wednesday night to promote F9: The Fast Saga. During the interview, Cena was asked about whether he would return to WWE. Cena confirmed that he would be returning and was looking forward to his next match, though he did not give a specific date. When asked why he posted a WWE logo to social media in May, Cena said that he was simply feeling nostalgic. Cena has been a part of WWE for over twenty years, beginning with his time in the Ohio Valley Wrestling developmental territory in 2001. He debuted on SmackDown in 2002 and went on to become a record tying sixteen time World..

Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Jim Cornette And His Wife

This does not sound good. Thursday saw a host of major wrestling names being accused of either sexual assault or sexual harassment as wrestling’s version of the MeToo movement seemed to begin. This is a story that is going to be going around for a good while to come and that should be the case. There are a lot of names included, and one of the biggest is receiving more details than almost anyone else. Jim Cornette is one of the more controversial figures in all of wrestling. While he is one of the more knowledgeable names in the industry, some of his comments and statements have gone a good bit over the line. Couple that with Cornette’s very brash demeanor and it is no surprise that he is not going to be well received by some people. There are now allegations against him as well and they are not likely to go well either. On Thursday, former Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW, of which Cornette owned a piece and was an on air performer) performer Phil Earley said that Cornette’s wife Stacey (..

KB’s Review: Jinder Mahal And The Austin Theory Theory

There are a lot of elements that go into wrestling but there is one thing that a lot of fans can forget: the promotion putting on the show can tell (almost) whatever story they would like. That’s a detail that is so often overlooked and it hurts the product quite a bit. The reality though is a wrestling company can have its wrestlers go to any story they want at any given time. In one of his many (many) rants available on YouTube, Jim Cornette tells a story of running Ohio Valley Wrestling and seeing his top heel come to a show suddenly bald. The wrestler, Doug Basham, explained that WWE had wanted to see what he looked like bald. This sent Cornette over the edge (again) because Basham was one of his top stars. Cornette’s (paraphrased) response was “Give me two weeks’ notice, I’ll book him in a hair vs. hair match, shave him myself and sell some tickets.” Now notice what Cornette is saying in that short statement: it isn’t hard to book Basham in a hair vs. hair match even if the stor..

NXT II? Impact Wrestling Announces Partnership With New Developmental Territory.

It’s a good way to teach. I’d think it’s safe to say that NXT has been a success in more than one way. While it offers some of the best and most exciting wrestling in the world right now, it also serves as a way to get the newly signed wrestlers some experience in the ring. It serves WWE well as a developmental system, and now it seems that another major company is doing the same. Impact Wrestling has announced via their Twitter account that they are reestablishing their relationship with Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) to make it their official developmental territory again. OVW, out of Louisville, Kentucky served as the WWE’s developmental territory from 1999-2008 and for Impact Wrestling from 2011-2013. The two companies recently worked together for a One Night Only event from Impact Wrestling’s Davis Arena. BREAKING: We are thrilled to announce that we have re-entered into an agreement with @ovwrestling to serve as an official development and training territory for IMPACT Wrestling. ..
