REVIEW: Royal Rumble 1991: That’s Not Very Patriotic

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Royal Rumble 1991 Date: January 19, 1991 Location: Miami Arena, Miami, Florida Attendance: 16,000 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Roddy Piper So it’s 1991 now and the US is at war (kind of). Therefore, the main event here, other than the Rumble of course, is Warrior defending the world title against Slaughter. This is a major changeover from the old Rumble formula which was a bunch of nothing matches followed by the big battle royal to close the show. Well at least on PPV that is. This would become the norm after this..

Kurt Angle Almost Drowned On Recent Vacation

That’s not good. WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently told a story on his podcast on AdFreeShows.com, about how he almost drowned on a recent vacation to Florida. Angle said the following: “We went to Miami, Florida,” Angle said. “The temperature was 80 degrees. We spent so much time on the beach. They had a wonderful pool at the hotel. It was a blast. I actually took my kids jet skiing. My first kid that I put on the back for me to ride them because they’re too young to drive themselves, I put her on the back and we went out, and when I went to make a turn, I slowed down and stopped, I wanted to make a turn and I didn’t put the accelerator on when I was turning and we flipped over. We went into the ocean.” “Now, Thank God my daughter is like an Olympic-caliber swimmer. I even had the safety vest on me, but it wasn’t working. I was still sinking. I can’t swim. So I’m in trouble. I couldn’t get above water. I was going under. My daughter kept her composure. The jet ski got away from..

WATCH: Bray Wyatt Thinks He Has A Broken Finger

That’s a nasty one. There are all kinds of injuries a wrestler can suffer, with some of them being more serious than others. While there are certain injuries that are going to leave a wrestler out of action for a very long time, others can seem rather small but wind up being more nagging than anything else. That might have taken place again to a big WWE name at a recent live event. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: WWE Referee Drops Sami Zayn With A Stunner At Live Event WWE held a live event in Miami, Florida earlier this week, featuring Bray Wyatt in action. Following the match, Wyatt spoke to some fans in the audience and noted that he could not shake hands due to breaking his finger during the match. There is no word on if Wyatt’s finger has officially been diagnosed as broken or if he will miss any ring time. Wyatt has yet to wrestle on television since his return at Extreme Rules. That could be a rough one. Check out Wyatt’s statement, plus some more of him since his return: [Thi..

REVIEW: Survivor Series 2007: The Big Fight Feel

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Survivor Series 2007 Date: November 18, 2007 Location: American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida Attendance: 12,500 Commentators: Michael Cole, John Bradshaw Layfield, Jerry Lawler, Jim Ross, Tazz, Joey Styles It is pretty rare when you have a true one match card but that is what we have here, as Batista is defending the Smackdown World Title against the Undertaker inside the Cell. There might be a few other things going on here, but that has been treated as the be all and end all of the show, as it should be. Let’s..

WATCH: The Rock’s Birthday Celebration From RAW (2011)

Happy Birthday! WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel, in which they show the full segment of The Rock’s Birthday Celebration From the May 2, 2011, episode of Raw. With all the cake, candles, and chaos, though, memories of The Rock’s celebratory bash should last at least that long. With the evening going full force, The Great One thanked the fans in his hometown of Miami and the entire WWE Universe for helping him celebrate. He was then joined by surprise guest Mr. McMahon, who offered some uncharacteristically kind words before unspooling a video tribute to The Rock. Then Grammy-award winning recording artist Mya was introduced and led the crowd in a rendition of “Happy Birthday.” None other than Samuel L. Jackson, Steve Carrell, Ellen DeGeneres, Dan Ma..

Update On Bad Bunny’s WWE Status Following Royal Rumble Appearance

Maybe next year. WrestleMania is the most important wrestling event of the year and WWE knows what they have with it. The company goes out of its way to turn the event into a grand spectacle and that means bringing in everyone they can to add to the show’s star power. Some of these moves work better than others, but there are times where someone just is not available. That will be the case again this year. This year’s Royal Rumble featured a surprise appearance by music superstar Bad Bunny, who entered the men’s Royal Rumble match. Bunny went on to eliminate two wrestlers before being tossed out by Brock Lesnar. According to PWInsider.com, this is not leading to a WrestleMania appearance, as Bunny will be performing in Miami, Florida during both nights of WrestleMania. Bunny is a lifelong wrestling fan and performed his song about WWE Hall of Famer Booker T. last year at the 2021 Royal Rumble. The appearance led to an angle between Bunny and Damian Priest against Miz and John Morriso..

REVIEW: Monday Night Raw – January 1, 2018: Feels Like It Was Just Four Years Ago

Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Night Raw Date: January 1, 2018 Location: American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Booker T. It’s a new year (yes it is) and that probably doesn’t mean much. We’ll be getting ready for the Royal Rumble in less than a month and tonight that includes an appearance by Brock Lesnar. Other than that we have Roman Reigns defending the Intercontinental Title against Samoa Joe and Cedric Alexander challenging Enzo Amore for the Cruiserweight Title. Let’s get to it. Alexa Bl..

REVIEW: Monday Night Raw – January 1, 2007: Star Power!

Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Night Raw Date: January 1, 2007 Location: American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida Attendance: 15,169 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler It’s the first show of the year, along with being the go home show for New Year’s Revolution. That means things are going to pick up in a hurry, so we’ll start with….the Kevin Federline match. The best thing we can hope for here is that it is over in a hurry so we can move on to anything else, as the fifteen minutes have to be long past up. Let’s get to it. We open with ..

AEW Rampage Results – October 22, 2021

Rampage Date: October 22, 2021 Location: James L. Knight Center, Miami, Florida Commentators: Taz, Ricky Starks, Excalibur, Chris Jericho It’s tournament time as we get the first match in the World Title #1 contenders tournament. That alone should be enough, but we also get a rematch between Andrade El Idolo and Pac. The first one was a heck of a fight and the rematch could live up to the expectations so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. World Title Eliminator Tournament First Round: Orange Cassidy vs. Powerhouse Hobbs Cassidy has bad ribs coming in. We see a clip of Cassidy beating an unknown Hobbs in twelve seconds in July 2020, with Taz promising that will not happen again. Hobbs hits a spinebuster for an early two as Matt Hardy is pleased from the crowd. Cassidy’s ribs are bent around the post and a side slam gives Hobbs two. A clothesline cuts off Cassidy’s comeback attempt and we take a break. Back with Hobbs staying on the ribs, including a torture rack. Cassidy slips out a..

AEW Dynamite Results – October 16, 2021

Dynamite Date: October 16, 2021 Location: James L. Knight Center, Miami, Florida Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, CM Punk We’re on a rare Saturday night due to the MLB playoffs and they are going to have a hard time topping what they did last night with Rampage. Tonight we see the brackets for the #1 contenders tournament, as Full Gear is less than a month away. Add in a AAA Tag Team Titles match and we should be good to go. Let’s get to it. Guest commentator CM Punk gets his big entrance. Here’s what’s coming tonight. Malakai Black vs. Dante Martin Lio Rush is here with Black. Some armdrags put Martin down to start but he sends Black outside. It’s too early for a dive though as Black comes back in and elbows him in the face. A powerbomb sets up a half crab to put Martin in trouble but he slips out in a hurry. That earns Martin and STO and shinbreaker, setting up a kneebar. Martin makes the ropes to escape and goes up top, only to have his springboard blocked. A s..

AEW Rampage Results – October 15, 2021

Rampage Date: October 15, 2021 Location: James L. Knight Center, Miami, Florida Commentators: Excalibur, Ricky Starks, Taz This is another special edition of the show as we have a bonus first hour airing on YouTube, which seems to be retaliation for WWE running an extra half hour of Smackdown this week. The bonus hour will feature Bryan Danielson vs. Minoru Suzuki while the regular show has CM Punk against Matt Sydal. Let’s get to it. Buy-In: Tay Conti vs. Santana Garrett Anna Jay is here with Conti, who takes Garrett down by the arm to start. Neither of them can hit am armdrag as commentary hypes up the Rampage card, including a commercial free opener. Conti’s leglock has Garrett in more trouble and she kicks Garrett in the face for two. Garrett is sent to the apron but misses a kick to the face, allowing Conti to roll her back inside for two. There’s a forearm to Conti’s face to stagger her again and a running elbow in the corner makes it worse. Conti fights out of a leglock and a..

Main Event Results – September 9, 2021

Main Event Date: September 9, 2021 Location: FTX Arena, Miami, Florida Commentators: Byron Saxton, Kevin Patrick We’re on the way to Extreme Rules and because of course it does, Main Event becomes more and more like its traditional self. There is very little taking place on this show that you need to see and that should not be a surprise to anyone paying attention. This is how Main Event goes and I don’t think there is any reason to think otherwise. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Dana Brooke vs. Doudrop Dana can’t power her around for a change and gets shoved into the corner. A running shoulder bounces off of Doudrop but a headscissors manages to take her down. Back up and Doudrop runs her over but Dana kicks her in the head. For some reason Dana thinks a suplex is a good idea, with Doudrop shoving her away without much trouble. Back up and Dana’s tornado DDT is countered into a suplex but Doudrop’s next suplex is countered into a small package for another near fall. A running ..

Monday Night Raw Date: September 6, 2021 Location: FTX Arena, Miami, Florida Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s time to start getting ready for Extreme Rules as the show is in less than three weeks. You can probably guess where a lot of the card is going and that should make things a bit easier. There is some stuff taking place tonight as well, in the form of a rematch between Charlotte and Nia Jax. You know, since the first one was such a smashing success. Let’s get to it. New Day is ready for Tag Team Turmoil. They’ll win because New Day Rocks. The Viking Raiders will raid the entire division tonight. Mansoor is ready for Tag Team Turmoil but Mustafa Ali tells him to follow his lead. Lucha House Party says it’s LUCHA TIME. Mace and T-Bar say Tag Team Turmoil means six more victims. Jinder Mahal and Veer are going to be the next champions. AJ Styles and Mansoor can’t imagine Riddle (AJ: “Old Smoky Brain himself.”) being in charge of anything so they’re ..

VIDEO: Even The NFL Is Talking About AEW And CM Punk

It’s kind of a big deal. There have been a lot of changes in the wrestling world over the last few years and a lot of them have to do with AEW. The still relatively new promotion has really shaken things up, mainly due to offering wrestlers a new place to go. A lot of wrestlers have taken AEW up on the offer, and now a potential new name is getting some publicity in advance. On Saturday, the NFL Network’s Adam Rank mention CM Punk’s expected AEW debut during a highlight of the Chicago Bears vs. Miami Dolphins game. Punk is widely expected to make his first appearance for AEW during this coming Friday’s Rampage from Chicago, Illinois. Punk’s debut has yet to be officially confirmed by the company, but multiple hints have been dropped alluding to him appearing. Call it an open secret. Check out the clip, plus some of Punk’s biggest moments: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m no..

SmackDown Live Coverage And Results – July 23, 2021

Smackdown Date: July 23, 2021 Location: Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Cleveland, Ohio/Rolling Loud Festival, Miami, Florida Commentators: Pat McAfee, Michael Cole We’re into the second week of having fans back and this time the big story is John Cena returning to Smackdown to see Roman Reigns. You can see Summerslam from here but we still need to make it official. Other than that, Carmella is getting another shot at Bianca Belair for no particular reason. Let’s get to it. We start fast this week with John Cena starting us off in a hurry. He talks about how hyped up the fans are here and knows that Roman Reigns is coming. There is some sports news coming out of Cleveland today, which is why he has changed his middle name to Guardians (as did Cleveland’s baseball team). He has to protect the little respect that WWE has left because Roman Reigns is terrible as Universal Champion. We’re back live and that means we are on the way to Summerslam, which is a place for the fans to show what the..

VIDEO: Part Of SmackDown Set Collapsed Before This Week’s Show

That could have been worse. With the fans returning to WWE events, it is time for WWE to come up with something fresh to hook the viewers in. There are all kinds of ways to do this, but one of the most effective is to mix up the locations a bit. WWE is already taking the shows to venues outside of Florida, but now they are trying two at once. It just has a bit of a hiccup on the way. This week’s SmackDown will be split between the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio and the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami, Florida. According to Local 10 (ABC Miami affiliate), a video screen being used for the festival collapsed on Thursday before the festival began. According to the Rolling Loud Twitter account, no one was hurt and the wall will be repaired before the start of the festival on Friday. SmackDown will feature an appearance by John Cena, who returned last Sunday at Money in the Bank and confronted Roman Reigns. Cena appeared on Monday Night Raw as well, promising to come see Rei..

Upcoming WWE SmackDown Airing From Two Venues

Double it up. The biggest wrestling story of July will be fans returning to the venues, both for AEW and WWE. Things are going to change again and this time in a more positive direction. There is something very cool about seeing wrestling companies going back on the road, as the energy will be boosted up all over again. It turns out that the boost is coming from two places at once in one instance. WWE has announced that SmackDown will air from two venues on July 23, which will be the second edition of the show featuring fans in attendance. The show will be split between the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio and the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami, Florida. There is no word on if the show in Cleveland will have additional matches to make up for part of the card taking place elsewhere. There have been some split location shows before. Check out a few of the past versions: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post cont..

AEW Dynamite Results – July 7, 2021

Dynamite Date: July 7, 2021 Location: James L. Knight Center, Miami, Florida Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur We’re officially back on the road and that means there are fresh fans in attendance. That is certainly a good thing and something that did not feel possible over the last year plus. First up we have Road Rager, featuring the Tag Team Titles on the line, a strap match and the debut of Andrade El Idolo. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Cody Rhodes vs. QT Marshall South Beach Strap Match with the four corner version. Cody dives on him before the bell and the fight is on with Cody pulling Marshall into the ropes. We look at various UFC fighters at ringside as Marshall gets in a shot to the ribs. A moonsault only designed to get knocked out of the air gets knocked out of the air and Cody hits a few buckles. Aaron Solow breaks it up but Dustin Rhodes fights him into the crowd to get rid of one goon. Nick Comoroto follows and Cody gets three buckles, only to get..
