That’s a good out. With so many wrestlers on the WWE roster, it is impossible to find something for all of them to do every week. WWE only has so much television time and at some point, someone has to be be left off of a show. In some situations, that is a plus for the wrestlers, and now we know a bit more about how two stars got a special addition to their contracts. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: RUMOR: Former WWE Champion May Return Before WrestleMania 39 Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful appeared on the Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast where he talked about a special clause in the Good Brothers’ contracts. According to the contracts, the team is not required to be at any event where they are not booked to wrestle or appear. There is no word on any other wrestlers having this kind of clause in their contracts. The Good Brothers have not wrestled a match on Monday Night Raw since January 9, though they have wrestled on live events since. The team is good when they’re in the ring. Check out som..
Rampage Date: February 3, 2023 Location: Nutter Center, Dayton, Ohio Commentators: Chris Jericho, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur Rampage continues to be a bit all over the place as you know most of the card/lineup in advance but it still feels like a show that could go in a bunch of different directions. That could be the case again this week as there is some star power with the Elite around to defend the Trios Titles. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Trios Titles: Elite vs. Isiah Kassidy/Matt Hardy/Ethan Page The Elite is defending and for the sake of simplicity, Matt Hardy will be referred to as Hardy and Matt Jackson will be referred to as Matt. Nick Jackson and Kassidy trade some flips and takedowns to start before Matt comes in to take over. Kassidy gets over to Hardy for the tag, so Omega gets the overly dramatic tag. Hardy sends Omega outside and goes up but Page tags himself in to take over instead. Omega snaps off a hurricanrana and it’s the Bucks coming back in for..
Rampage Date: January 20, 2023 Location: Save Mart Center, Fresno, California Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho We’re still in California and this week’s Dynamite is going to be a bit tough to follow. There is a good chance that we are going to get some solid matches though, as tends to be the case around here. Rampage can be rather fun when it comes to focusing on some of the lower level stuff and that might be what happens again this week. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Jungle Boy vs. Ethan Page Isaiah Kassidy, Stokely Hathaway and Matt Hardy are here with Page. Chris Jericho rants about the fans singing along with Jungle Boy’s theme song as Page tries an Ego’s Edge out of the corner to start. That’s broken up and Page is sent to the floor, where he pulls Kassidy in the way of a dive. Back in and Page catches Jungle Boy on top but a dropkick puts him right back down. Hold on though as Hathaway interferes but blames Hardy, allowing Page to whip J..
On the shelf. Injuries are one of the worst things that can happen to a wrestler as you never know how long they are going to be out of action. An injury can take place at almost any time and put someone on the shelf out of nowhere. That seems to have taken place again, as an AEW is injured and out of action, leaving someone else to take his place in the ring. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: On The Market: Former Multiple Time World Champion Officially A Free Agent AEW’s Matt Hardy has announced that Marq Quen is injured. As a result, Hardy will be teaming with Quen’s Private Party partner Isaiah Kassidy for the time being. Quen responded to the announcement, saying that he will be back in the ring quickly. There is no word on when Quen was hurt or how long he will be out of action. Quen’s most recent match took place on November 30. Since @Marq_Quen is gonna be out of action for a bit, myself & @IsiahKassidy are marching forward. Tonight we team up on #AEWDarkElevation & plan on stealing t..
They have a plan for that. With so many wrestlers under the WWE banner, it can be quite the trick to keep track of them all. WWE has put together something of a conveyor belt of stars, with NXT names being promoted to the main roster. The company has it down to something of a science and now we know a lot more about what kind of process they have put together. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Keep It Short: Matt Hardy Reveals How Discussed World Title Reign Might Have Gone Fightful Select has published a new report on how WWE handles NXT callups to the main roster. In recent months, WWE has brought in several NXT stars for appearances on Main Event. This has been done as a way to see what wrestlers look like outside of the Performance Center and does not necessarily mean it is a promotion. Some of the current names being considered for a full time call up are Cameron Grimes and Von Wagner, both of whom have appeared on Main Event. There should also be a more “slow and steady” progression from ..
That would have been different. There are all kinds of accomplishments in the wrestling world but being the World Champion is at the top of the list. It makes you the biggest star in a promotion and often the focal point of everything going on. Rarely will a wrestler turn down the chance to hold the company’s top title, but that was the case with a prominent star when he had the shot. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: 45 Year Old WWE Star Wrestles Final Match To End 25 Year Career During the most recent edition of his The Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy spoke about his Broken Matt run in Impact Wrestling. Hardy revealed that had he and his brother Jeff re-signed with the company, there had been a discussion of Matt having another World Title reign. Matt felt that if he did win the title, he should not have had it long as Broken Matt was not someone who needed titles. After a few weeks, Matt had hoped to drop the title to Eli Drake, who would go on to become World Champion...
Dynamite Date: December 7, 2022 Location: H-E-B Center, Cedar Park, Texas Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Taz, Excalibur It’s the go home show for Final Battle and the Dynamite before next week’s Winter Is Coming so it is time to start hammering home the build for both shows. Believe it or not we have a battle royal this week for a shot at MJF’s….ring, rather than the World Title. That should get a lot of people on the show so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Battle Royal Ricky Starks, Brian Cage, Jungle Boy, Orange Cassidy, Shawn Dean, Dustin Rhodes, Lee Moriarty, Ethan Page, Matt Hardy, Kip Sabian, Dalton Castle, Butcher, Blade The winner gets to face MJF for the Dynamite Diamond whenever they decide. Sabian and Cassidy take turns ramming each other into the corner until the Butcher breaks it up. Cassidy is sent over the top so he tries to skin the cat, only to have Blade knock him out. Rhodes (hometown boy) hits a Canadian Destroyer on Sabian and clotheslines him out. Butcher c..
The missing ingredient. There have been a lot of talent in WWE throughout the years but only a small group of them have reached the top of the company by becoming the World Champion. It means a lot for someone to reach that level, but not everyone is able to get that far. Now one legend is weighing in on why one of his contemporaries never made it all the way to the big one. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Huge Beatdown On Monday Night Raw, Popular Star Taken Out On Stretcher During the most recent edition of The Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy was asked why Shelton Benjamin only made it as far as he did in WWE. Hardy said he felt that WWE did not see Benjamin as a larger than life personality, which limited how far he could have gone. Hardy also said that he believed if Benjamin came up today, he might have had a higher ceiling due to the modern style. Benjamin was quite the marvel in certain ways. Check out some of his better WWE moments: [This post contains video, c..
They have a unique relationship. There has never been anyone in wrestling as powerful or influential as Vince McMahon. During his time running WWE, McMahon was able to make or break anyone’s career in the blink of an eye, meaning a relationship with him was one of the most important things a wrestler could have. Now we are hearing about one of the stranger relationships that McMahon had with anyone. During a recent edition of his The Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy talked about McMahon’s relationship with Bray Wyatt during Wyatt’s time in WWE. Hardy described the relationship as McMahon looking on Wyatt as a son at times. When Wyatt did something positive, McMahon would heap praise on him. When Wyatt did something McMahon didn’t like though, McMahon would punish and insult him. Wyatt returned to WWE at Extreme Rules, months after McMahon retired from WWE. Opinion: To say McMahon is a strange character is an understatement as you never knew what he was going to do at an..
Rampage Date: September 30, 2022 Location: Liacouras Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone Rampage is back to normal this week and that should make for a decent enough show. You never know what you’re going to get around here, though odds are you’ll get at least one important thing. Other than that though, there is a good chance you’ll be seeing some names who aren’t around on Dynamite very often. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Tag Team Titles: Acclaimed vs. Butcher and the Blade vs. Private Party Acclaimed, with Billy Gunn, is defending. Bowens and Kassidy start things off as Matt Hardy is watching in the back. They trade quick one counts as the fans sing in praise of the Acclaimed. A standoff gives us a handshake before Bowens drives Kassidy into the corner for the tag off to Castor. With Kassidy down, Castor stops for some scissoring with Gunn before Bowens comes in for a neckbreaker onto Castor’s knees. Quen comes in and gets a..
Rampage Date: September 16, 2022 Location: MVP Arena, Albany, New York Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Chris Jericho, Tony Schiavone The road to normalcy continues this week but there might not be as much to get hyped about with this show. The problem is that with no tournament matches for this week, there is only so much that can be done to bring in the interest. Rampage has a tendency to not feel the most important but maybe they can pull it off. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Matt Hardy vs. Darby Allin They shake hands to start and it’s Allin grabbing a headlock takeover. Hardy fights up so Allin crucifix bombs him for two. With Hardy on the floor, Allin’s dive is cut off but he drives Hardy into the steps to knock him silly again. Allin goes Jeff/PCO by trying a Swanton, which only hits apron because people like him never learn. We take a break and come back with Hardy hitting a Side Effect out of the corner for two. The Twist of Fate is countered and a suplex is as well..
There is a lot to go through. Injuries are one of the worst things that can happen to a wrestler as you never know when someone is going to be put on the shelf. It could be for quite a long time or a short while, but either way it is something that can create quite the problem. That is the case again in AEW, but this time there are quite a few injuries at the same time. Fightful Select is reporting updates on several AEW injuries. First up is Matt Hardy, who suffered some sort of a knee injury over the weekend at AAA’s TripleMania event in Tijuana, Mexico. Hardy’s knee is said to have “major” swelling but it is not clear how long he might be out, if he is at all. In addition, Bryan Danielson is currently not cleared to wrestle at AEW Forbidden Door, though he is expected to make an announcement about his injury status. Next, Lee Johnson is currently out of action with a knee injury and is expected to be out of action for the rest of the summer. Finally, Darius Martin is also out of a..
These things do happen. Wrestlers are larger than life characters who get into physical altercations every single week on television. That can make for some very compelling moments, but there are also things that happen with them behind the scenes which can be all the more interesting. That seems to have been the case with two prominent modern wrestlers. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW’s Chris Jericho and WWE’s MVP got in a verbal altercation at a hotel in Houston on May 18. Around 1am, MVP arrived at the hotel and ran into Jericho and Matt Hardy. The incident did not get physical but was said to be “tense”, with Jericho getting to an elevator and saying he “doesn’t fight jobbers” as MVP was screaming in the lobby. It is not clear what caused the issue or if the two have resolved it since. MVP has commented on the situation on Twitter, suggesting that the incident took place but that the details were wrong. Even when they get the story right, they get the details ..
There’s a flashback. Stables are something that have done a lot of good for wrestling over the years. Putting a group of wrestlers together under a common banner is something that has worked for a long time and it continues to do so to this day. There have been some very interesting ones over the years but now one of the lesser remembered ones has made a brief comeback. The New Brood had a reunion in a tag match at a Big Time Wrestling event on Saturday night in Prince George, Virginia. The match saw the Hardys faced Gangrel and Joey Janela, who billed themselves as the New New Brood. Gangrel and the Hardys teamed together in 1999 in the WWF against Edge and Christian, the former members of Gangrel’s Brood. Following the match, Gangrel and the Hardys posed together as part of the reunion. The New Brood has REUNITED. pic.twitter.com/5vH1ZGURN4 — MATT HARDY (@MATTHARDYBRAND) May 15, 2022 Opinion: This is one of those things that came out of nowhere and was good for a nice smile, as t..
Dynamite Date: May 4, 2022 Location: Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone I’m not sure how but we’re less than a month away from Double Or Nothing. Last week’s show saw the announcement that CM Punk would be challenging Hangman Page for the World Title at the pay per view so at least they have the top match set up pretty far in advance. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Owen Hart Foundation Qualifying Match: Jeff Hardy vs. Bobby Fish Adam Cole is on commentary and Matt Hardy and Kyle O’Reilly are at ringside. Fish takes him into the corner to start and kicks away at the leg, setting up a dragon screw legwhip onto the other leg. They head outside with another dragon screw legwhip sending Hardy into the barricade and we take a break. Back with Hardy making a comeback and dropping Fish to go up top. The Swanton is broken up though and it’s the super Falcon Arrow to put Hardy down for two. Fish grabs the kneebar bu..
You need to plan ahead. AEW has only been around for a few years now but they already have a great record on pay per view. The company has put together an exceptional pay per view catalog with some absolute classics. This includes an impressive midcard, and we might be about to see another example with Revolution 2022. However, the card might not be what was originally planned. One of the matches currently set for Revolution is a six man tornado tag team match between Sting, Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara vs. the AHFO team of Matt Hardy, Andrade and Isiah Kassidy. According to Fightful Select, the original plans for the match did not feature Guevara and Kassidy. There is no word on why the change was made or what was originally planned for Guevara and Kassidy on the show. Opinion: That’s an interesting change and I’m a bit surprised that Guevara, the reigning TNT Champion, has been added into a six man match rather than defending the title. That being said, Guevara is someone who can ..
