Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Elimination Chamber 2019 Date: February 17, 2019 Location: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young, Tom Phillips, Percy Watson It’s the first of two stops on the Road to Wrestlemania and that means we’ll be seeing a big steel structure. In this case it’s for the WWE Championship and the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. The structure alone makes this a little more interesting and hopefully it’s good on top of that. Let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Cruise..

WWF House Show Date: December 10, 1987 Location: Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, Texas Commentators: Bruce Pritchard, Mike McGuirk, Duke Doherty Oh that commentary team is going to kill me today. Not really sure of what to expect on this card as I haven’t seen the details of it. The matches would probably be fallout from Survivor Series and leading up to the Rumble….which doesn’t tell us much at all as that was more or less Andre vs. Hogan and that’s about it. Anyway, I love the late 80s so let’s get t..
Time to pay it off. Wrestlers have a lot to do to get ready for their time in the ring and sometimes it can be a big overwhelming. It can help to have a little help with some of the more mundane tasks and some wrestlers can get that assistance. Two WWE stars were in one of those roles each as the result of a recent bet, and now we get to see just how far things went. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Rey Mysterio Out Of Action With An Injury WWE has posted a video from backstage at this week’s SmackDown, where Drew Gulak had to do everything that Raquel Rodriguez told him to do throughout the day. This is the result of Gulak losing a World Series bet to Rodriguez when his Philadelphia Phillies lost to Rodriguez’s Houston Astros. As a result, Gulak had to do things such as open Rodriguez’s door, get her lunch, shine her boots and bring her water after her match. It’s certainly different. Check out what Rodriguez put Gulak through: [This post contains video, click to play] O..
Monday Night Raw Date: August 1, 2022 Location: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton We’re done with Summerslam and things feel like they have been reset around here. We get to see what is going on with the first Raw of the new regime and there is a good chance that there are going to be some changes. That should make for a fun night and that is what the show needs. Let’s get to it. Here is Becky Lynch, in far more normal clothes and her arm in a sling, to get things going. After a look back at Bianca Belair beating Lynch at Summerslam and the return/debuts of Bayley/Dakota Kai/Iyo Sky (Io Shirai), Becky talks about knowing that she has remembered who she is. Lynch may have separated her shoulder but she knows she gave it her all at Summerslam and knows that no man defines her. She defines the man and now we start a new era, but first she wants Belair out here. Belair obliges and says that Lynch is the man and respect is shown. Lynch le..
They could use it. WWE has been all over the place in recent months and that should not be surprising. Things have been changing both in front of and behind the camera, especially in the front office. While this has not caused a major change in the on-screen product, it has been taking place at the same time as something different in the arenas. This time around, it is some good news. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE has seen an upswing in ticket sales in recent weeks. While the numbers are not up huge, there is a stronger demand for tickets in cities like New York City and Houston. There is no word on what is causing the ticket sales to increase. At the same time, AEW ticket sales have been down, which is credited to a combination of injuries taking away star power and revisiting markets without much time in between shows. Opinion: The AEW numbers make sense, but the WWE numbers are a bit confusing. At the end of the day, WWE does not have much going on at the moment, with..
These things do happen. Wrestlers are larger than life characters who get into physical altercations every single week on television. That can make for some very compelling moments, but there are also things that happen with them behind the scenes which can be all the more interesting. That seems to have been the case with two prominent modern wrestlers. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW’s Chris Jericho and WWE’s MVP got in a verbal altercation at a hotel in Houston on May 18. Around 1am, MVP arrived at the hotel and ran into Jericho and Matt Hardy. The incident did not get physical but was said to be “tense”, with Jericho getting to an elevator and saying he “doesn’t fight jobbers” as MVP was screaming in the lobby. It is not clear what caused the issue or if the two have resolved it since. MVP has commented on the situation on Twitter, suggesting that the incident took place but that the details were wrong. Even when they get the story right, they get the details ..
Wedding bells will be ringing! According to a report from TMZ, Sammy Guevara proposed to Tay Conti at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, earlier today. She said yes, and the couple is now engaged! The two have been a couple since January 2022. They have been regularly featured as an on-screen couple as well. This is not Guevara’s first proposal; he was in a relationship for eight years with Pamella Nizio, a medical worker from Houston. In August 2021, he proposed to her at an AEW show in Houston in the middle of the ring; however, they split up soon afterward in October. The two were recently in a trios match at the 2022 Double or Nothing pay-per-view. Together, they teamed with Frankie Kazarian to take on the team of Ethan Page, Scorpio Sky, and Page Van Zandt in a losing effort. Congratulations to the happy couple! Editor’s Opinion: I’m sure this will cause some controversy because there are some AEW fans who do not approve of this couple and how they act on screen. However, if..
Rampage Date: May 20, 2022 Location: Fertitta Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Taz, Excalibur, Chris Jericho, Ricky Starks We are less than two weeks away from Double Or Nothing and now it is time for the card to really get hammered home. This time around, that only includes one Owen Hart Tournament match, which seems like a drop compared to recent weeks. The Blackpool Combat Club is here though so let’s get to it. House Of Black vs. Dark Order/Fuego del Sol Black has no time for Evil Uno to start so it’s off to Fuego, who gets taken down into a kneebar. Matthews comes in and stomps away but Fuego gets over to Uno to pick up the pace. Black tags himself back in though and the House cleans itself as we take a break. Back with 10 cleaning house but he can’t get the full nelson. Everything breaks down and Uno gets to kick King in the face over and over but a kick to the face sets up the Ganso Bomb for the pin at 9:20. Result: House Of Black b. Dark Order/Fuego del Sol – Ganso Bomb ..
Dynamite Date: May 18, 2022 Location: Fertitta Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone It’s Wild Card Wednesday, meaning we find out the two Joker entrants in the Owen Hart Foundation tournaments. Other than that, we have two Dynamites left before Double Or Nothing and that means it is time to start hammering out a few more matches on the card. Most of the show is already set though and that can make things all the more interesting. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Owen Hart Foundation Tournament First Round: Samoa Joe vs. ??? Non-title and the joker is….Johnny Elite (Nitro/Morrison). Feeling out process to start as Joe doesn’t seem overly impressed. Joe knocks him into the corner for some shots to the ribs, followed by an elbow to the face. Some shots to the face have Joe in a bit of trouble though and Elite knocks him to the floor, setting up the big twisting cannonball to take Joe down again. We take a break and come back with Joe hitting a big..
We have some sad news to report this morning as Vince McMahon’s mother, Vicky Askew, has passed away at the age of 101. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in The Woodlands, TX, just outside of Houston. From her obituary: Vicki was born on July 11, 1920 in Florence, South Carolina, the only daughter of four children of Orpheus William Hanner and Victoria Kennedy Hanner. The family moved when Vicki was a young girl to Sanford and then to East Sanford, NC where she spent her childhood. Vicki was blessed with two sons, Rod and Vince, both of whom married their childhood sweethearts. Sadly, Rod passed away one year to the day before his mother. Vicki’s childhood was tough. She spoke of it in an interview for the North Shore Church in 2018: “My mother had to go to work to support me and my three brothers. She started by selling Avon. During the Great Depression, I remember drawing my foot on pasteboard and putting it in my shoe (the sole had holes and no one could afford new s..

Vengeance 2007 Date: June 24, 2007 Location: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas Attendance: 15,000 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole, Joey Styles, Tazz, John Layfield It’s time for a Night of Champions (that has a ring to it) as this whole show is about title matches. We have nine title matches and that is almost a guarantee for a couple of changes. One of which will be the ECW World Title, which is vacant coming into the show. Let’s get to it. The opening video looks at how everything is about the ti..
Monday Night Raw Date: October 25, 2021 Location: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s time for the season premiere and that means we have the new roster officially finalized. We are done with the weird post Draft season, meaning everyone is here for good, assuming you ignore Becky Lynch going to Smackdown last week. We also need to start getting ready for Survivor Series, where it’s Raw vs. Smackdown again. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here is Big E. to open things up and talk about how great it is to have the season premiere in a city like Houston, Texas. We get a LET’S GO ASTROS chant before Big E. congratulates Xavier Woods on winning the King of the Ring. He also needs to talk tip his cap to Drew McIntyre for pushing him even harder than expected at Crown Jewel. There is no rest for the weary though and now he needs a new challenger, so here is Seth Rollins to interrupt. Rollins thinks he should get a shot but Big E. poi..
It’s worth a look. We are coming up on an important anniversary this weekend, as Saturday will mark twenty years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. That is one of those moments where everyone remembers where they were because it changed so many things in such a short amount of time. After the events were over, it was time to start the healing process and WWE is looking back at what they did in that regard. WWE has posted a full documentary on the episode of SmackDown held two days after the September 11 attacks, which is available for free on YouTube. The show took place on September 13, 2001 in Houston, Texas and featured an opening statement from Vince McMahon. The event was mostly a stand alone show with little storyline progression and wrestlers giving their thoughts on the attacks. It was a different night. Check out the documentary, plus some of the original show: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to ..
Dynamite Date: August 18, 2021 Location: Fertitta Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone We’re still on the way to both All Out and the First Dance, meaning we could be in for an interesting night. AEW knows how to put on a good show out of nowhere and things were a little bit flat last week. There is a good chance that they can come up with something big here, as Kenny Omega is not going to be happy with losing to Christian Cage last week. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Commentary previews the card. Here are Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston but 2.0 and Daniel Garcia jump them in the crowd. 2.0 wants Sting and Darby Allin right now. Sting/Darby Allin vs. 2.0 Texas Tornado rules and Allin jumps 2.0 from behind with the skateboard. The running charges in the corner rock 2.0 and it’s time for the brawl to head into the crowd. They make it up to what looks like a VIP area with Daniel Garcia getting in on the beating. 2.0 lifts Allin up into a piece o..
