Farewell? Weekly Wrestling Series Seems To Be Coming To An End

One less? Wrestling has been around for a very long time and a lot of that time has seen it airing on television. It makes all the sense in the world as anyone can watch a wrestling match and get the basic idea. There are all kinds of ways to present wrestling and different promotions around the world have showcased it in varying styles. Now though, we might not be seeing one of them again. In a new post on his personal blog, New Japan’s Hiroshi Tanahashi revealed that New Japan Strong, the weekly New Japan American television series, will be coming to an end after this weekend’s television tapings. There was no reason given as to why the show would be coming to an end. However, last month, New Japan President Takami Ohbari said that New Japan Strong “will be rebuilt next year” (meaning 2023). ???????STRONG???????????????????#njpwSTRONG will be rebuilt next year. — ????/Takami Ohbari (@TAKAMIOHBARI) December 25, 2022 Strong had some good stuff. For Once: AEW Finally Gets Some Good News On A Possible Injury

That could have been worse. Last weekend, AEW presented Forbidden Door, a show built around a series of matches between AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling stars. The card was stacked with all kinds of talented stars, some of whom are among the biggest names in the world. That was the case with the main event, which was a hard hitting fight. It turns out that someone is not as banged up as it seems. The main event of Forbidden Door saw Jon Moxley defeat Hiroshi Tanahashi to become the new Interim AEW World Champion. Following the show, Moxley addressed the crowd and said that he was “probably concussed”. However, according to Wrestling Observer Radio, the statement was not true and is something Moxley likes to say in promos after big matches. Moxley does not have a concussion and is not believed to be injured in any way. Opinion: After all of the injuries that AEW has dealt with in recent weeks, it is nice to see someone actually not being hurt for a chance. Moxley said something and got..

A Big Night: Multiple New Champions Crowned At AEW Forbidden Door

That’s the main point. Titles are often the centerpiece of a wrestling promotion because everyone understands how they work. A championship is the kind of thing that tells a fan who is the best wrestler around and one of them changing hands can make a huge difference. That was the case again this weekend, as several titles changed hands on a single night. AEW held its Forbidden Door event on Sunday night and multiple titles changed hands. First up, FTR won the IWGP Tag Team Titles by defeating Roppongi Vice and reigning champions the United Empire. FTR also retained their Ring Of Honor Tag Team Titles in the process. Next, Pac became the inaugural All-Atlantic Champion by defeating Malakai Black, Clark Connors and Miro in a four way match. Finally, Jon Moxley defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi in the main event to win the inaugural Interim AEW World Title. AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa, IWGP United States Champion Will Ospreay and IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White all retained th..

There Is It: Main Event Set For AEW Forbidden Door

That’s the next big one. AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works as it has brought in a variety of different changes. This includes bringing in several new wrestlers to the fold, as AEW has worked together with a variety of promotions over its existence. That will include the upcoming Forbidden Door event, and now we know what one of the biggest matches on the card will be. Over the weekend, Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Hirooki Goto at New Japan’s Dominion event. As a result, Tanahashi has advanced to Forbidden Door on June 26 where he will face Jon Moxley to crown the new AEW Interim World Champion. The title was introduced when reigning World Champion CM Punk was injured, forcing him to take time off. Punk will face the winner in a unification match at some point in the future. Opinion: This probably isn’t the biggest surprise and that isn’t he worst thing. Putting an all time legend like Tanahashi in the show’s main event is a good idea and the match with Moxley will almos..

Not So Fast: Rumored AEW/New Japan Forbidden Door Match Not Taking Place

Never mind. We are less than a month away from one of the most unique shows on the wrestling calendar as AEW presents Forbidden Door. The show will feature a series of matches between AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling stars, with the first match being announced this week. While CM Punk vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi is set, another match that was rumored will not be taking place. On Thursday, a story reported by Dave Meltzer began circulating that IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada will be defending his title against Hangman Page. However, according to Meltzer, the match is not going to be happening as the lineup that he saw for the show was not accurate. The rest of the card other than Punk vs. Tanahashi is being kept secret, with the June 26 card still to be announced. Per @davemeltzerWON, his WOR note last night that Hangman Page vs. Okada was tabbed for Forbidden Door based on a lineup he had seen was incorrect. That match is not planned for the PPV as the lineup is being kept a secr..

First Match Set For Forbidden Door

The door is beginning to open. On tonight’s episode of Dynamite, we may have gotten a glimpse of the first match set for the upcoming AEW/NJPW crossover event, “Forbidden Door.” In the opening match of the show, CM Punk and FTR defeated the team of Max Caster and The Gunn Club. After the match, Punk cut a promo saying that it was time to begin selling the upcoming pay-per-view. He then issued an open challenge to anybody from NJPW to face him at the show. This brought out 8-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi, who seems to have accepted the challenge and will face Punk at Forbidden Door. Editor’s Opinion: A lot of people think that it was going to be either Okada or maybe Jay White that would be facing Punk, but Tanahashi is an excellent choice. Widely regarded as one of the best professional wrestlers of all time, this clash of styles should make for an outstanding mean event in a great way to sell the show. I’m looking forward to seeing these two warriors go at it! ..

Wrestle Kingdom XVI Night Two Results

Wrestle Kingdom XVI Night Two Date: January 5, 2022 Location: Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan Attendance: 6,379 Commentators: Chris Charlton, Kevin Kelly It’s the second of three nights of this show and this one feels like the biggest. Last night’s main event saw Kazuchika Okada win the IWGP World Title again, which leaves him ready for his first defense against Will Ospreay. The second biggest match on the card is Kenta defending the United States Title against Hiroshi Tanahashi in a No DQ match, which could be a heck of a fight. Let’s get to it. Pre-Show: Togi Makabe/Yuji Nagata/Tomoaki Honma vs. Bullet Club That would be Bad Luck Fale, Gedo and Jado for the Club. The Club jumps them to start but Jado and Gedo are knocked to the floor to start. Fale is fine enough to run Honma over though and the good guys are in trouble early. Honma is sent outside and Makabe gets taken into the corner with Jado standing on his chest. Gedo and Fale take Jado’s place but Makabe fights up and brings Nagat..

Who Won This Year’s New Japan G1 Climax Tournament?

Go Tournament Ace! One of the most interesting stories that can be told in wrestling is the story of the former star who is trying to have one last run at the top. It can create a great moment if they can reach the mountaintop one more time but even if they lose, the road back is often amazing to see. There are very few promotions ever at the level of the current New Japan product and that means they could pull off this story again. They’re taking a shot. Earlier this morning, Hiroshi Tanahashi won his third G1 Climax Tournament by defeating Kota Ibushi, earning the right to challenge for the IWGP World Title at the January 4, 2019 Wrestle Kingdom 13. Tanahashi will have to defend the title shot until then and could lose the shot on the way. This is Tanahashi’s third win, with his previous victories coming in 2007 and 2015. He also set a record for the most points in a 20 man tournament with 15 (seven wins and one draw). This is always worth a listen. [This post contains video, clic..

Bobby Fish Reacts to His NXT Debut

<p>Bobby Fish spoke with <a href="http://www.wwe.com/shows/wwenxt/article/exclusive-interview-bobby-fish-nxt-debut" target="new">WWE.com</a>. Here are some highlights:</p><p><strong>If he thought he’d make it to WWE</strong>: “At times, yes, and at times, no. I remember a conversation I had with <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/Kevin-Owens" title="Kevin Owens">Kevin Owens</a></strong> in a hotel gym in Chicago a few years back. We were both working for Ring of Honor, and at that time, it seemed like Kevin was headed toward the next step in his journey. I have immense respect for Kevin and all that he’s been through to find his success. He is not the prototype for what was rumored to be ideal here and neither am I. Understanding his drive to succeed here through that conversation made me think that if I want that — which I believe, in some way, anyone who laces up the boots to do this, does on some level — then I will create a similar opportunity for myself. So yeah, I did think I’d be here one day.”</p><p><strong>NXT debut</strong>: “Somewhat surreal because much of this has come together very quickly. I watched the success of former co-workers and peers, such as <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/roderick-strong" title="Roderick Strong">Roderick Strong</a></strong>, Kassius Ohnoand <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/hideo-itami" title="Hideo Itami">Hideo Itami</a></strong>, make that very same walk at Full Sail. At this point, I feel so prepared for this new challenge. In my opinion, this life is about the journey, and when mine ends, I expect that this vessel, my body, will be banged up, battered and beaten, which will be a clear indication of a life well lived. NXT represents the next step in my journey.”</p><p><strong>Wrestling in Japan</strong>: “Japan will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the place where I received the first big break of my career when I was selected to travel to the island and begin competing for Mitsuharu Misawa’s Pro Wrestling NOAH at the end of 2006. I worked eight years with NOAH and developed much of my style there. I learned from and tallied matches with Japanese legends like Misawa himself, Kenta Kobashi and Jun Akiyama. I was also afforded the opportunity to develop alongside my Japanese peers like Hideo Itami, Atsushi Aoki and Naomichi Marufuji. In 2014, I left NOAH with their blessing to pursue a career with New Japan Pro Wrestling. There is no question in my mind that this is the place where I truly rounded out my skillset. I cannot thank [New Japan matchmaker] Gedo enough for the opportunity he gave me when I was invited there to compete. I shared the New Japan ring with a living legend in Jushin “Thunder” Liger, UFC Hall of Famer Kazushi Sakuraba, Yuji Nagata, Shinsuke Nakamura and Hiroshi Tanahashi. The list is endless, and I am forever grateful. I am a better wrestler because of my time with New Japan Pro Wrestling.”</p>
