Monday Night Raw Date: March 13, 2023 Location: Amica Mutual Pavilion, Providence, Rhode Island Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves We have six major TV shows left before Wrestlemania and there is still some work to do. Most of the matches and stories are already set but there are a least a few things that need to be finalized. There is a good chance that some of those will be covered, or at least addressed, tonight so let’s get to it. Here is Edge to get things going. He loves that kind of reaction from the crowd but wants to get straight to the point. Edge calls out Finn Balor so here is the full Judgment Day. Edge says that Balor’s request for a Wrestlemania match is on, which Balor appreciates. With that out of the way, Edge recaps the feud and says he doesn’t have time to deal with all of these people anymore. That’s why at Wrestlemania, he wants Hell in a Cell. Balor says Hell couldn’t handle his demons so they’re on for Wrestlemania. Judgment Day storms the ring and the..
That’s a big one. We are less than three weeks away from WrestleMania 39 and the show is already starting to come together. There are several matches already set for the show but with two nights to fill, a lot more will need to be done. This can include matches that are not held under your typical rules, and now another one has been added to the card with some of the biggest stipulations WWE has to offer. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Uh Oh? Bray Wyatt Misses Weekend MSG WWE Live Event, Not Around As Much Lately For most of the last year, Edge has been involved in a feud with the Judgment Day, often with only his wife Beth Phoenix helping him. Last month, Finn Balor challenged Edge to a match at WrestleMania and this week, Edge accepted. After saying yes, Edge said that he wanted the match to be inside Hell In A Cell, with Balor accepting. This will be the third Hell In A Cell match in WrestleMania history and the first since WrestleMania 32 in 2016. They have something to live up to. Chec..
She might need a restraining order. There are all kinds of stars on the WWE roster, some of whom are among the most unique kinds of stars that you will see in any wrestling promotion. It can be interesting to see those wrestlers come together in a match or some kind of a storyline, but there are other times where it takes a bit of a darker turn, which was the case with two current WWE stars. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s In: WWE Announces Change To #1 Contenders Match Due To Injury Earlier this week on Monday Night Raw, Johnny Gargano defeated Finn Balor in a match, with Dexter Lumis and Rhea Ripley both at ringside. Lumis has sent Ripley a message on Twitter, featuring a drawing of him holding an ax and asking if Ripley liked drawings. Ripley has not responded to the post. Lumis debuted on the WWE main roster last year but has yet to speak a word on television. @RheaRipley_WWE do you like drawings? pic.twitter.com/mFyptpx8Cp — Dexter Lumis (@DexterWWE) March 8, 2023 This is a weird..
They’re still a thing. Nine months ago, Naomi and Mercedes Mone (then Sasha Banks) walked out on WWE on the same night, vacating their Women’s Tag Team Titles in the process. That is the kind of career altering change that you do not see a wrestler deal with very often, but the two seemed united in what they were doing. Now we will get to see them united again in a very different world. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Maybe Later: How WWE Nixed Plans To Bring Back Finn Balor’s Demon The Bar Rescue Twitter account has sent out a video advertising an upcoming episode. The video includes a clip of Naomi and Mone, though it is not clear if it will be in the advertised February 26 episode. While Naomi has not wrestled since walking out on WWE in May 2022, Mone has gone on to wrestle for New Japan Pro Wrestling, including winning the promotion’s Women’s Title over the weekend. The team was good while it lasted. Check out the ad, plus the team in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play]..
That would have been different. One of the most complicated aspects of wrestling is to make sure that the most important material is used at the right time. A promotion has to build things up over time and then pay it off when everything is ready. WWE is no exception, and now we know that they hit the brakes instead of letting someone make a special return. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Swap: Trish Stratus Reportedly At Monday Night Raw, Not Used As Planned According to Fightful Select, WWE had originally planned to bring back Finn Balor’s Demon persona at the Royal Rumble. The Demon would have fought Edge, possibly inside Hell In A Cell. However, due to Edge’s filming schedule, WWE went with the mixed tag instead. In addition, some people who were asked about the plans were unsure if the Demon would fit in with the current version of Balor. There is no word on if the Demon will return anytime soon. In case you forgot. Check out what the Demon is all about: [This post contains video, clic..
It’s the last big stop on the Road To Wrestlemania and for a five match card, four of them are big and the fifth includes some Hall of Famers. This show is pretty much stacked with either big matches or the awesome sounding main event. While the show is called Elimination Chamber, the whole thing is about Roman Reigns defending the World Title against hometown boy Sami Zayn. Let’s get to it. Edge/Beth Phoenix vs. Finn Balor/Rhea Ripley Somehow this is the least important match on the show as Edge’s war against the Judgment Day continues. In this case, he is bringing in the wife to go after Ripley, who is on her way to WrestleMania. This should be a good, long tag match as all four can do well in a spot like this one. That being said, it doesn’t help that this feels like it is only there to set up something at Wrestlemania. I’ll take Judgment Day here, as Ripley pinning Phoenix would make her look like a bigger deal on what could be her path to the main event of the first night of Wre..
Long time in the making: We are on the way to Elimination Chamber, with the show taking place in less than two weeks. That does not leave long to build up the show, but the other problem is that the show’s namesake matches are going to take up twelve people from the roster. WWE is going to have to come up with something clever to fill in the card and now we know a bit more about the show. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s Not Over: Two More SmackDown Stars Heading To Monday Night Raw Roster This week on Monday Night Raw, Edge and Beth Phoenix appeared and talked about wanting to finish the war with the Judgment Day once and for all. Phoenix issued a challenge for a mixed tag against Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley, who was not there, with Balor accepting. Phoenix and Edge have teamed together before, defeating the Miz and Maryse at the 2022 Royal Rumble. This should be good. That’s a good reason. There are certain stars in WWE who get your attention no matter what they are doing. Some of them have an innate ability to get your attention and the audience will react to them whenever they are around. There are occasionally outside reasons that keep these bigger names away from being on WWE TV regularly and that is the case again. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s Coming Together: Current Planned And Potential WrestleMania 39 Card *MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS* Over the last few months, there have been rumors of upcoming matches between Edge/Beth Phoenix vs. Finn Balor/Rhea Ripley in some form. However, Edge had been missing for several months before returning last month at the Royal Rumble. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Edge has been missing in action due to filming commitments on the Disney+ series “Percy Jackson And The Olympians”, leaving him with no time to hype up the match. Edge appeared this week on Monday Night Raw to attack Balor, but no match ..
He’s a hit. There are few ways to gauge how successful a wrestler has been but you can often tell when someone is a success or not just by the feeling. That is not enough for a business though as they are going to need something more concrete. One of the most telling ways is merchandise sales, and a recently returned star is doing quite well in that regard. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Boss: Update On Vince McMahon’s Current Work In WWE Cody Rhodes returned to action at the Royal Rumble last weekend, winning the men’s namesake match. As a result, Rhodes will go on to WrestleMania to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. Rhodes competed on Monday Night Raw, defeating Finn Balor in the show’s main event. Rhodes is on a roll. Finn Balor was recently interviewed by BT Sport, where he discussed his conversation with Vince McMahon about joining the Judgement Day and turning heel. This was also the evening that Edge was kicked out of the group. [This post contains video, click to play] Below are Balor’s comments: “I’ve actually never watched this back at all. This was such a weird night because I remember it was like 7:55 PM, and we’re going live at eight o’clock. I knock on Vince McMahon’s office, and I go there, and I say, ‘Sir, have you got a minute?’ He looks up from his papers, and he goes, ‘Is it about tonight?’ I said, ‘Yeah, it’s about tonight. It’s about the heel turn.’ He goes, ‘Oh, come in.’ Balor continued, “I just wanted some direction as to, ‘Hey, am I going out there in the suit? In The Judgment Day colors, or am I going out as Finn? Am I going out to music? What way are we doing it?’ He said, ‘Oh, you just go out as Finn and then do the segment.’ I said, ‘Well, oh, okay. That’s cool’. “The..
Monday Night Raw Date: January 16, 2023 Location: Heritage Bank Center, Cincinnati, Ohio Commentators: Corey Graves, Kevin Patrick We’re less than two weeks away from the Royal Rumble and also quite possibly on the second straight week of doing very little because the show is up against a huge football game. The Royal Rumble is in less than two weeks and odds are that we’ll be seeing some more names announced for the namesake matches. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here are the Usos and Solo Sikoa for a chat. They’re here in our city but need to address what happened on Smackdown. Kevin Owens needs to learn that you can’t be a problem for Roman Reigns. Speaking of Reigns, there is something big planned for next week’s Raw XXX. Every generation of the Bloodline will be joining together for an acknowledgment ceremony, plus they’ll beat Judgment Day. Cue Judgment Day, with Rhea Ripley saying they run Raw and Finn Balor saying they ran through the tag division and are now the #1 co..
It’s that time of year. We are just over two weeks away from the Royal Rumble and that means it is time to start putting together the lineups for the show’s namesake matches. This includes thirty men and thirty women, which can make for quite the collection of talent in both. It also often means a bunch of returns and surprises, and this time we have an idea of who might be included. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Family Business: Update On Shane McMahon’s WWE Status, How Much He Was Paid In 2022 PWInsider.com is reporting a variety of names who could be returning at the Royal Rumble, though it is not specified if they will be in the Royal Rumble matches or just at the show in some way. First up, Edge and Beth Phoenix are expected for the show, likely to set up a mixed tag match against Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley at Elimination Chamber. Second, Doudrop has been discussed for a possible return. This comes after Doudrop revealed that she had recently gotten over an illness. Finally, Logan Paul..
Maybe? There are a lot of moving pieces in WWE at the moment and it can be difficult to keep track of what is going on from time to time. It can be made even more difficult with WWE changing plans so often, as you never know what kind of things you will wind up seeing compared to the original plans. That seems to have happened again, possibly with a pair of upcoming shows. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: No More: Wrestling Couple Announces Official Separation According to Fightful Select, as of November, WWE’s plans for Edge called for him to face Finn Balor inside Hell In A Cell at the Royal Rumble. In addition, Edge and his wife Beth Phoenix were planned to face Balor and Rhea Ripley at Elimination Chamber. However, the limited dates remaining on Edge’s contract may have caused some issues and none of the matches were ever officially announced. Balor and the Judgment Day became #1 contenders to the Tag Team Titles this week on Monday Night Raw and there is nothing to suggest that Edge will ..
Rain check? There are so many stars in WWE these days but only a few are important enough to warrant title reigns. WWE putting a championship on a wrestler is a good sign for their current status, but also their future. It can also be a big deal to have those names on live events, but a reigning champion was absent from a recent live event, resulting in a necessary change. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: WWE Hall Of Famer On Possible Royal Rumble Return According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, reigning United States Champion Austin Theory was pulled from a WWE live event earlier this week. Theory was scheduled to face Seth Rollins in a cage match but Finn Balor took Theory’s place. There is no word on why Theory was not on the show. Theory defeated Rollins in cage matches on live events the three previous nights. Theory has done rather well as of late. Monday Night Raw Date: December 19, 2022 Location: Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines, Iowa Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves It’s the last show before Christmas and possibly the last show of the year depending on what they do next week. There is still a lot of time before the Royal Rumble but we have another big match coming up on December 30. John Cena is on his way back to WWE and that should have some people talking. Let’s get to it. Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns are here, with Reigns saying he is around here to deal with Kevin Owens. Reigns has been dealing with Owens and now he has to take care of John Cena again. Now, he is going to torture Owens until Raw acknowledges the Bloodline. We cut to the rest of the Bloodline beating down Mustafa Ali. Opening sequence. Street Profits vs. Judgment Day Finn Balor/Damien Priest for the team here, with their friends and Akira Tozawa at ringside too. Ford goes nuts on Priest to start but gets sent into the corner. We go split screen ..
That’s a big one. We are coming up on the Royal Rumble and that means there are going to be several stars busy. With sixty wrestlers being used in the show’s namesake matches, there is not much room for anything else on the show. That means WWE is going to need to have something big to make up for it, and they might have one of the biggest matches available. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Bro? Conflicting Reports On Matt Riddle’s Absence And Possible Suspensions From WWE TV According to Wrestlingnews.co, Edge is expected to return to WWE TV for the Royal Rumble, where he will continue his rivalry with Finn Balor. While not confirmed, the match is expected to be a gimmick match, with Hell In A Cell looking likely. Edge has not been seen on WWE television since Extreme Rules in October, when Balor defeated him in an I Quit match. It’s a big rivalry. Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? NXT Takeover: R-Evolution Date: December 11, 2014 Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida Attendance: 400 Commentators: Rich Brennan, Alex Riley, Corey Graves This should be a big one as we have a huge showdown in the main event for the NXT Title with Sami Zayn getting his rematch against champion Adrian Neville after a screwy finish to their last match. Other than that we have the long awaited debut of Kevin Owens and Hideo Itami teaming with Finn Balor to face the Ascension. Let’s get t..
The prizefighter didn’t like the prize. Kevin Owens was recently a guest on the After The Bell podcast with Corey Graves, revealing that he was not a fan of his 2016 Universal Championship Run. Below is a highlight from the interview: “I used always to want more and more and more. What’s next? What’s next? What’s next? There are so many moments over the past eight years that I didn’t properly enjoy because I was always worried about what was the next thing. When I was Universal Champion, I had this incredible run with Chris Jericho and so many great moments, so many fun moments that people still talk about today. I’m ashamed to say that I really did not enjoy that as much as I should have.” Owens won the title after Finn Balor was forced to vacate the championship due to injury shortly after becoming the first-ever champion. [H/T to SEScoops for the transcription] Editor’s Opinion: This is somewhat surprising, and some thing I haven’t thought about in a number of years. I figured..
