Looking At The Relaunch Of ECW On Sci-Fi

This past weekend marked twenty years since the ill-fated relaunch of Extreme Championship Wrestling under the WWE banner with the ECW on Sci-Fi show. As we kno...

Not Yours: WWE Facing Possible Legal Action Over New Nickname

That could be an issue. There are a variety of different aspects that come together to present a wrestler in the right way. This includes the wrestler’s look, character and in some ways, nicknames. Finding the right moniker can be quite the trick but if it done right, it can bring about a lot of good. WWE is trying out a new nickname for one of its stars, but there might be a snag. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Another One: Update On Gable Steveson, Possible Major Delay To WWE Career In recent weeks, WWE has begin referring to Liv Morgan as “the Queen Of Extreme” as Morgan has been using more hardcore and weapons based offenses. Corey Graves also used this nickname for Lita on Monday Night Raw. During a recent edition of her “Eyes Up Here” podcast, former ECW and WWE star Francine, who was known as the “Queen Of Extreme”, took issue with WWE using the name. Francine claimed that she applied for the trademark for the name, though she is still waiting on it to come through. While Francine do..

It’s About That Time: Wrestling Legend Says He Does Not Have Much Time Left In The Ring

You have to hang it up sometime. There are all kinds of wrestlers throughout the industry but one thing they have in common is they all have to stop wrestling at some point. While it seems that some wrestlers will go on forever, at some point they are going to have to hang up their boots someday. A former WWE star seems to realize that and is announcing that his time in wrestling is almost over. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Maybe Later: AEW Star Removed From Roster Page, Seemingly Done With Wrestling For Now According to Puroresu Today, during a press conference for an upcoming Kyushu Pro Wrestling event in Japan, former WWE and ECW star Tajiri said that he knows he does not have much time left in his career. Tajiri, 52 and the reigning Kyushu Pro Champion, said that at his age, he still wants to be the champion and have hot matches, but he also want to nurture the next generation. There was no word on how much time Tajiri feels he has left in the ring or what else he wants to accomplish i..

Impact Wrestling Results – December 22, 2022

Impact Wrestling Date: December 22, 2022 Location: Charles F. Dodge City Center, Pembroke Pines, Florida Commentators: Tom Hannifan, Matthew Rehwoldt We’re still getting closer to Hard To Kill and now it seems that a Tommy Dreamer vs. Bully Ray showdown is imminent. If there is one thing that this company has loved over the years, it is pushing the heck out of former ECW stars. Other than that, Jordynne Grace is getting ready to face Mickie James in what should be a heck of a pay per view Knockouts Title match. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Opening sequence. Knockouts Tag Team Titles: Deonna Purrazzo/Gisele Shaw vs. Death Dollz The Death Dollz (with Taya Valkyrie) are defending and Jai Vidal is here with Purrazzo and Shaw. Jessicka powers out of a wristlock to start and then shoves her down again, meaning it’s time for Shaw to try. Shaw gets powered into the corner for a splash and it’s already off to Rosemary. The Upside Down has Shaw in trouble but Purrazzo kicks Rosemary from..

That’s A Lot: Mandy Rose Reportedly Making Eye Popping Numbers On Subscription Site

That’s a lot. Wrestlers can do a lot of things to improve their standing in a promotion and, in theory at least, make more money. That is the kind of thing that can be rather tricky as wrestlers have to figure out what fans want and then act accordingly. Now another wrestler is doing just that, and it seems to be going incredibly well, even if it has nothing to do with wrestling whatsoever. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Not Him: WWE Pulls Hall Of Famer From ECW Tribute Show Last week, WWE released Mandy Rose, reportedly over a series of controversial photos and videos Rose released on her FanTime subscription site. According to TMZ Sports, Rose has made $500,000 since being released, which could double as soon as Christmas Day on Sunday. Rose, 32 years old, has given no indication of when or if she will resume her wrestling career. Rose was a star in NXT. Check out some of her time there: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post co..

Not Him: WWE Pulls Hall Of Famer From ECW Tribute Show

They’re the big ones. WWE is the largest and most powerful wrestling company in the world, meaning they are where several wrestlers want to wind up. Some wrestlers are talented and valuable enough to keep around after their in-ring careers are over and get to stick with the company in a backstage role. One such star was unable to attend a special show as a result. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It Would Be A Record: WWE Hall Of Famer Wants To Return After 21 Years For Royal Rumble Over the weekend, Battleground Championship Wrestling presented its “Tribute To The Extreme” event at the 2300 Arena (formerly the ECW Arena) in Philadelphia. According to PWInsider.com, ECW legend and current NXT coach D-Von Dudley was pulled from his scheduled appearance at the show. Dudley was scheduled to appear at the convention before the event as well as in Bully Ray’s corner for Ray’s match later that night. The promotion received a letter from WWE, which took issue with an ECW tribute show airing, but the ..

One More: Former WWE Star Wrestles Final Match Of Career

Everyone has to hang it up sometime. Wrestlers can have a hard time walking away from the industry as you never know how long it might be before they can get out of the ring. So often a wrestler might try to have one more run or one more match, making retirements fairly rare. Now though, one former WWE star has announced his retirement and had his last match. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: No More: 53 Year Old Wrestling Legend Announces 2023 Is His Last Year In The Ring Over the weekend, Nova, formerly known as Simon Dean in WWE, wrestled his last match at a Stand Alone Wrestling event in his hometown of Tom’s River, New Jersey. Nova teamed with Aron Stevens and Frankie Kazarian to defeat Matt Cardona, Brian Myers and Pat Buck. Nova began wrestling in 1992 and has worked for ECW, WWE, and on the independent circuit. View this post on Instagram A post shared by MATT CARDONA (@themattcardona) Nova is a heck of a star. Check out some of his time in the ring: [This post contains video, click ..

Interesting Name And Scenario Floated To Take Down Roman Reigns

That would be a different way to go. Roman Reigns has dominated WWE for over two years as part of one of the longest World Title reigns in company history. Reigns has dispatched one challenger after another and there is nothing to suggest that he is going to be slowing down anytime soon. Now a wrestling legend has an idea for a pretty unique challenger who could give Reigns trouble. During a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, former WWE and ECW star Tommy Dreamer spoke about Gunther defeating Rey Mysterio to retain the Intercontinental Title last week on SmackDown. Dreamer went on to suggest that Gunther be the man to dethrone Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania. There is no word on if WWE is considering going in this direction. Opinion: While I don’t know about Gunther being the one to take the title from Reigns, a Gunther vs. Reigns match would certainly be worth looking at. Reigns rarely meets someone who can match if not exceed him in size and impact a..

Former WWE Star Set For Official Retirement Match

You have to hang it up eventually. Retirement is a weird concept for a lot of wrestlers as several of them have issues with leaving wrestling. Many of them have often stick around longer than expected as they can keep coming back for one more match here or there. Eventually everyone has to hang up the boots though and that is going to be the case with another former WWE star. According to Fightful, Mike Bucci, formerly known as Nova or Simon Dean in WWE, will be wrestling his final match on December 3. Bucci, 50 years old, will team with Aron Stevens (formerly known as Damien Sandow) and another partner to be named against Matt Cardona, Brian Myers and another partner to be named at Stand Alone Wrestling’s Contest Of Champions in in Tom’s River, New Jersey. Bucci began wrestling in 1992 and made his name in ECW as part of the Blue World Order. He has also wrestled in WWE and around the independent circuit. Opinion: This is one of those things that you know has to happen at some point..

That’s Unique: Surprise Title Change Takes Place On AEW Dynamite

Keep it in the family. There are a lot of titles in wrestling and that is not much of a surprise. It makes sense to have people fighting over belts, but when a promotion has a lot of championships, something needs to be included to make it stand out. That is the case with an unofficial AEW title, and now that championship has changed had in one of the most unique ways imaginable. This week on AEW Dynamite, Ricky Starks successfully defended the FTW Title against Danhausen. Following the scheduled match, Starks issued an open challenge for another title shot, with Hook answering and defeating him to become champion. Hook happens to be both Starks’ student as well as the son of Taz, who invented the FTW Title in ECW and owns the title itself. Opinion: That is one of the most unique as well as special moments that you are going to see. The title is literally Taz’s property and he got to see his son win the title on national television. You never see something like that happen and I can’..

REVIEW: ECW On Sci Fi – October 30, 2007: Mashy

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? ECW On Sci Fi Date: October 30, 2007 Location: Nassau Coliseum, New York City, New York Attendance: 12,300 Commentators: Joey Styles, Tazz It’s the Halloween special and this time around that means we have the Monster Mash four man battle royal between Kane, Great Khali, Mark Henry and Big Daddy V. They are leaning heavily into the freak show idea here and that is not a bad idea. I could go for seeing what else they have going on here now that Cyber Sunday is gone so let’s get to it. We open with a Halloween them..

LOOK: Former WWE Star Appears On The Price Is Right, Looks A Bit Different

It might be more noteworthy. There have been all kinds of wrestlers throughout WWE’s history, some of whom have made a bigger impact than others. Some wrestlers have been major stars and others have been smaller players, while most are in the middle, as WWE has tried to do something with them and never gotten very far. One of those cases made a TV appearance this week, albeit in a way that had nothing to do with wrestling. Former WWE star Ezekiel Jackson made an appearance on the Price Is Right this week. Jackson, appearing under his real name of Rycklon Stephens, was on the show with his family and made it to the Showcase Showdown. A former Intercontinental and ECW Champion, Stephens has not wrestled since 2015 at a show in German and now works as a fitness instructor. Hey look who it is! WWE Legend Hints At Stepping Away From The Ring

Everyone does it at some point. There are a lot of wrestlers in the world but only a handful of them can be described as a legend. Even fewer can be considered a legend in their own time. That is the case with a small number of wrestlers today, but even they have to hang up their boots at some point. It seems that we might be seeing that again, as one legend could be suggesting. During a recent interview with Rasslin With Brandon F. Walker, Rey Mysterio said that he thinks he’ll “step back” when he feels his son Dominik Mysterio is ready to have his own career in the ring. Rey said he thinks that would be helpful for Dominik and hopes that it happens within the year. He did not however use the word “retire”. The Mysterios have teamed together since Dominik debuted in 2020, though they have both wrestled singles matches in their time. Rey, 47 years old, has been wrestling since 1989, having debuted in Mexico before coming to the United States. He has wrestled for ECW, WCW and WWE, alo..

Huge Title Match Set For Elimination Chamber

That’s up next. The Royal Rumble has come and gone with the focal point being on the two namesake matches. In addition to that though, the WWE Championship changed hands as Brock Lesnar lost the title to Bobby Lashley, making him a two time champion. That is the kind of thing that could be an important deal for the future and now we might have an idea of what is coming next. WWE has announced that Lashley will defend his WWE Title inside the Elimination Chamber at the event of the same name. Elimination Chamber is scheduled for February 19 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. At the moment, there is no word on who will be challenging Lashley for the title or when the contenders will be determined. Lashley has participated in one Elimination Chamber match, winning the ECW World Title at December To Dismember in 2006. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you knew was coming and it makes sense in this case. The title is in a bit of a state of flux and there is a real chance that the title could ..

New Wrestling Hall Of Fame Announced, Including First Inductees

They deserve the honor. Wrestling is a weird sport in that the accomplishments that wrestlers win do not last forever. Titles can be won and lost, but mainstream sports don’t lose whatever they win. It is rare to see an honor in wrestling that actually lasts, but now we are seeing some wrestlers be honored for their career efforts. They just won’t be your usual group. Earlier this month, Game Changer Wrestling announced that they will be opening the Indie Wrestling Hall Of Fame on January 22, 2022. Two members of the inaugural class have now been announced. The first announced inductee is Jerry Lynn, a former ECW and Ring of Honor World Champion. Lynn will be inducted by Sean Waltman, his longtime rival on the independent circuit. The second inductee will be Homicide, another former Ring of Honor World Champion, who has wrestled on the independent circuit for more than twenty years. Homicide will be inducted by Chris Dickinson, his partner in Violence Unlimited. *BREAKING* GCW and O..

REVIEW: ECW November To Remember 1994: We’re Still Not Done

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. November To Remember 1994 Date: November 5, 1994 Location: ECW Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Attendance: 1,000 Commentator: Joey Styles This is one of the promotions I can’t escape no matter how hard I try. It’s a requested show that was just dropped on the Network a few weeks back and since it’s ECW’s flagship event, it’s probably worth a shot. In theory that is as ECW is one of the most unpredictable promotions in the world. Let’s get to it. This must be the full version as we even see the ring announcer co..

REVIEW: Monday Night Raw – June 11, 2007 (Mr. McMahon Appreciation Night): Boom!

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Monday Night Raw Date: June 11, 2007 Location: Wachovia Arena, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole, Tazz, John Bradshaw Layfield, Joey Styles It’s time for a special three hour edition (like that has a future) as we have the annual Draft. VIDEO: AEW Presents Emotional Tribute After This Week’s Rampage

It’s a special moment. There are certain cities that matter more in the wrestling world. They have a special history to them and fans know just how much it means to the industry. As a result, you will often see wrestlers and promotions pay some special attention to them. That is what happened this week, as both a city and the company most closely associated with it received a tribute. This week’s editions of AEW Dynamite and Rampage took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the former home of ECW. AEW has released a video from after this week’s wrestling tapings, featuring AEW President Tony Khan bringing out former ECW stars Taz, Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko and Jerry Lynn to speak about ECW. After Taz praised the fans and the promotion, CM Punk came to the ring to say he felt left out because he was the ECW Champion as well. Punk also praised the wrestlers and said that he thought it would be funny to pop in before leaving the rest to continue talking. It was a special moment. Check..

VIDEO: Special Tribute Entrance Before This Week’s SmackDown

Sticking to the classics. There are a lot of things that go into making someone a star in wrestling and some of them are a bit more obvious than others. One of the most important things is their entrance music, especially if it is part of a grand entrance package. That has been the case more than once over the years and someone paid tribute to a classic this week. A video has been posted to Twitter showing SmackDown broadcaster Pat McAfee making his entrance to Metallica’s Enter Sandman while carrying a Singapore cane. McAfee beat on the announcers’ table with the cane before taking his seat. This was done as a tribute to the Sandman, who wrestled in the original run of ECW. This week’s SmackDown took place in Philadelphia, ECW’s home city. This was pretty amazing. Check out the entrance, the original, plus what else McAfee can do: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the k..
