REVIEW: Survivor Series 2019: Oh Yeah, I Went There

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Survivor Series 2019 Date: November 24, 2019 Location: Allstate Arena, Chicago, Illinois Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Vic Joseph, Jerry Lawler, Nigel McGuinness, Beth Phoenix We have finally arrived. After several weeks of Raw, Smackdown and NXT invading each others’ shows, it is time to see which show is best and that could be interesting. Raw has won the competition three years in a row, though this is NXT’s first time being included. The card looks good, albeit huge. Let’s get to it. I was in the are..

Rampage Results – November 25, 2022

Rampage Date: November 25, 2022 Location: Wintrust Arena, Chicago, Illinois Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross, Excalibur It’s time for the other Chicago show of the week and we have a title match this time around. The Ring Of Honor Tag Team Titles are on the line as FTR defends against Top Flight, which has me wondering what is next for them at Final Battle. Speaking of Final Battle, it might be smart to announce something for the show. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Ring Of Honor Tag Team Titles: FTR vs. Top Flight FTR is defending. Harwood takes Darius down to start before quickly handing it off to Wheeler for some chops. Darius armdrags him into an armbar and it’s off to Dante, who gets forearmed in the head over and over. It’s back to Darius off a blind tag for a heck of a DDT and a near fall. Top Flight gets in some double teaming to take FTR down and they all brawl to the floor as we take a break. Back with FTR missing right hands and getting dropkicke..

AEW Dynamite Results – November 23, 2022

Dynamite Date: November 23, 2022 Location: Wintrust Arena, Chicago, Illinois Commentators: Taz, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur It’s the first show after Full Gear and thanks to William Regal, MJF is the new World Champion. That is enough of a story to carry things for the time being, but we have more important things to get to right now: like building up a Ring Of Honor pay per view in the next few weeks. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. William Regal is in the ring to open things up and he lets us know the MJF isn’t here because he’s on the set of a major motion picture. MJF will explain things then, including the contents of an emails Regal sent him a few weeks ago. Cue Jon Moxley to rather slowly interrupt, meaning Regal can sneer a lot. Bryan Danielson runs in to keep them apart though and says that they have all done bad things. Moxley slaps him in the face so Danielson begs him not to do this. Danielson talks about his dad having the same struggles that Moxley has had, saying th..

Where It Hurts: Vince McMahon Allegedly Paid Manager Only $100 For WrestleMania

That’s not a good way to go. Wrestling is a unique business to say the least, as there are certain things that are done in the industry that would make no sense elsewhere. This ranges from how the workers are presented to how they are always on the move, the latter of which can get expensive. That can turn into a bigger problem if you annoy your boss, and that is what someone did to the biggest boss in wrestling. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Yes Chance: Important Update On Vince McMahon Documentary During his YouTube show, former WWE personality Dutch Mantell revealed that James Dundee, formerly known as JC Ice during his time in WWE, was paid $100 for WrestleMania 13. Dundee had angered McMahon in some way and was paid $100 for getting involved in the Chicago Street Fight at WrestleMania 13. Mantell said this was far lower than the normal amount managers were paid for just walking to the ring at this point. In addition, Mantell said Dundee did not complain about the pay as McMahon was lo..

History Is Being Made! Here’s The Interesting Reason For An AEW Tradition

It is an aspect to consider. AEW has only been around for a few years now but the company has put together quite a nice history for itself. The company does certain things over the course of the year almost every year, to the point where you can guess what is coming most of the time. However, there is one thing that they do that seems a bit odd, but there is quite a simple reason for it as well. Throughout its history, AEW has held fourteen regular pay per views, with four of them having been held in or around Chicago, Illinois. The company’s next event, All Out 2022 on September 4, will also be held near Chicago. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this is because AEW President Tony Khan considers himself a wrestling historian and wants to hold annual shows in the same markets. This has been done throughout wrestling history, including Jim Crockett Promotions running Greensboro on Thanksgiving night. At the same time, Khan does want to expand AEW into new pay per view markets in t..

Take Your Time: You Might Not Be Seeing Sasha Banks In The Ring For A Long Time

It could be a little while. One of the biggest wrestling stories of the year has been Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out on WWE. The pair vacated the Women’s Tag Team Titles in the process and neither has been seen in a wrestling capacity since. That left quite the hole in WWE, but it also opened up some doors for other promotions that could land them. Now though, it seems that it could be a ways off. According to Fightful Select, Banks is not accepting wrestling bookings until 2023 at the earliest. She is willing to take non-wrestling bookings, such as the upcoming C2E2 convention in Chicago. It is not confirmed that Banks has been released, but a promoter who asked about booking Banks said they cannot imagine that she is not gone from the company so far. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that is sort of a wait and see situation. There is little reason to believe that banks is going to be wrestling anytime soon, as she has yet to officially be released from WWE so far. I’m curious t..

AEW Forbidden Door Live Coverage And Results

Forbidden Door Date: June 26, 2022 Location: United Center, Chicago, Illinois Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone It’s a special show as we have a host of international guest stars from New Japan coming in for a bunch of big time matches. The main event is for the Interim AEW World Title as CM Punk being stripped of the title was off the table. Other than that, we have a series of title matches which should make for a great show. Let’s get to it. Buy-In: Hirooki Goto/Yoshi-Hashi vs. QT Marshall/Aaron Solo Solo and Hashi start things off with Hashi working on a headlock. A running shoulder drops Solo again so it’s off to Marshall vs. Goto, with the latter knocking Marshall around without much trouble. Solo comes back in and cheap shots Hashi though, allowing Marshall to get in a cheap shot on Goto. That lasts all of a few seconds before the big beatdown is on to put Solo back in trouble. Everything breaks down and Marshall’s cartwheel tumbling dive drops Goto and Hashi. ..

Something New: AEW Adds Unique Tag Team Title Match To Forbidden Door

That’s a different one. Next weekend, AEW and New Japan will be presenting its first ever Forbidden Door pay per view. The event will include a series of matches between the two promotions with one dream match after another. The card has already taken shape but there are still some matches that need to be filled in. AEW took care of part of that this week, as another promotion is getting in on the act (kind of). A new match was added to Forbidden Door this week on AEW Rampage. Announced for the show was a triple threat tag team match between Ring Of Honor Tag Team Champions FTR, IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions the United Empire (Great O’Khan/Jeff Cobb) and Roppongi Vice with both sets of titles on the line. Forbidden Door is set to take place from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Opinion: That is the kind of stacked match that can make for a great addition to the pay per view card. I’m not sure how the companies are going to handle one of their titles changing hands but it..

Spring Stampede 2000 Date: April 16, 2000 Location: United Center, Chicago, Illinois Attendance: 12,556 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mark Madden, Scott Hudson It’s the night of a million tournaments because TOURNAMENTS ARE AWESOME. The company was rebooted six days ago so all titles are vacant and Russo and Bischoff are here with their latest spray painting stable with the word New in the name. The main event is Jeff Jarrett vs. Diamond Dallas Page for the World Title because the one thing from the last few bori..

REVIEW: AAW Epic 2017: 13th Anniversary Show: All Stars

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. AAW Epic 2017: The 13th Anniversary Show Date: April 8, 2017 Location: Joe’s Live, Rosemont, Illinois Commentators: Phil Colvin, Tyler Volz As the name might suggest, this is AAW, a pretty nice independent promotion from around Chicago. There are a lot of names you are going to recognize on here and that should make for a pretty nice card. Making it to thirteen years is impressive enough and in theory the show should work out as a result. Let’s get to it. The commentators are in the ring to welcome us to the show..

WWE Is Bringing Back A Classic Show Next Month For NXT

Mark your calendars. NXT was completely shaken up back in September 2021 when it was relaunched as NXT 2.0. The new version of the show featured a new look, a fresh roster and basically sent everything in a new direction. That means they had to start from scratch in a lot of ways, but things have gotten back to normal in some areas, which will be on display again next month. According to PWInsider.com, the next NXT special will take place on June 4, with In Your House. There is no location announced for the event, though the previous special event, Stand & Deliver, took place in Dallas, Texas as part of WrestleMania 38 weekend. In Your House will take place the day before Hell In A Cell near Chicago, Illinois but it is not clear if the show will take place nearby. This will be the third NXT edition of In Your House. Opinion: In your House is one of those shows that NXT can dust off every year and do just fine, as the show isn’t one that needs a lot of hype. The show has a history in ..

REVIEW: Backlash 2017: They Actually Did That

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Backlash 2017 Date: May 21, 2017 Location: Allstate Arena, Chicago, Illinois Commentators: Byron Saxton, Tom Phillips, John Bradshaw Layfield It’s time for another Smackdown exclusive, which could mean things are hit or miss tonight. The card isn’t exactly the best with Jinder Mahal challenging Smackdown World Champion Randy Orton and AJ Styles challenging Kevin Owens for the US Title. Other than that though, this is kind of a stretch for a pay per view. Let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Tye Dillinger vs. Aiden Engl..

BREAKING: AEW Makes Major Announcement, Huge Show Coming Soon

Cross promotion. While AEW and WWE get most of the attention in the wrestling world, there are a lot of other promotions out there worth a look. You have probably heard of several of them but they could all use some extra recognition. That is the case with one major international promotion, but now it is going to be getting some major attention on a huge stage. This week on AEW Dynamite, Adam Cole announced a special pay per view event on June 26 at the United Center in Chicago. The event will be called Forbidden Door, which will include New Japan Pro Wrestling stars meeting AEW stars. New Japan wrestlers have appeared in AEW before but never for an entire show. There is no word on who will be appearing on the card and no matches have been announced. Opinion: I don’t think this is the biggest surprise but it should at least make for a good show. The show is the kind of thing that the AEW fans are going to eat up and now they will be getting the kind of show they have wanted. There sh..

REVIEW: SmackDown – April 14, 2005: Here He Comes

Smackdown Date: April 14, 2005 Location: Allstate Arena, Chicago, Illinois Commentators: Michael Cole, Tazz We’re in the process of finding a new #1 contender, which is likely to be JBL. Thankfully we get some big matches on the way there, including one tonight with Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero. That is one of those matches that can’t be screwed up so we should be in for a good evening. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of the #1 contender series, with Eddie Guerrero costing Rey Mysterio his match against JB..

No Mercy 2007 Date: October 7, 2007 Location: Allstate Arena, Chicago, Illinois Attendance: 12,500 Commentators: Jim Ross, Joey Styles, Jerry Lawler, Tazz, John Bradshaw Layfield, Michael Cole It’s time for a special show as John Cena is no longer the WWE Champion due to suffering an injury on Raw. Therefore we are guaranteed a new champion, though it is not clear how the title will be decided. Other than that, the Smackdown side features Batista defending the World Title against Great Khali in a Punjabi Prison ma..

WWE Announces New Hell In A Cell Details

Mark your calendars. WWE runs several may per view events a year and some of them are among the most well known shows on the wrestling schedule. The company has several shows that are longstanding traditions, though sometimes they will move one of them around the schedule a bit in one direction or another. WWE did that last year and now they seem to have made the move permanent. WWE has announced that Hell In A Cell will be taking place on Sunday June 5 at the Allstate Arena near Chicago, Illinois, marking the show’s first time taking place at the venue. This will be the second year in a row that Hell In A Cell has taken place in June after being held in October for all but one of its previous editions. There are no matches announced for the show. Opinion: There is something fun about seeing the pay per view calendar being announced as you might get to take in a show that you weren’t expecting. I still don’t care for the idea of having a show like Hell In A Cell taking place at the s..

AEW Dynamite Results – February 16, 2022

Dynamite Date: February 16, 2022 Location: Municipal Auditorium, Nashville, Tennessee Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone They have their work cut out for themselves after last week’s show but AEW has a tendency to make something like that work more often than not. We are less than three weeks away from Revolution as well so it is time to start hammering home the card. The good thing is that you probably know what you’re getting. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. We open with CM Punk sitting in the middle of the ring, where he explains the idea of straightedge, which means he is better than you. That kind of a statement might sound familiar because he said it for the first time over twenty years ago. It inspired some people to be wrestlers and some people to be straightedge. Heck it even inspired some people to sit like him, ala Maxwell Jacob Friedman. That would be the same MJF who beat him in his hometown of Chicago (twice). MJF tries to make himself seem like some..
