That would have been different. Three years ago, the Coronavirus pandemic turned the world upside down and things have only recently returned to mostly normal. There were several changes made to almost everything around the world, including WWE. The company kept going during the pandemic, but it turns out that one show almost did not get to wrap up. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: LOOK: WWE Star Shows Off Remarkable Physical Transformation The 2020 Money In The Bank event featured a unique version of the show’s namesake match, with both the men and women fighting at the same time at WWE’s corporate headquarters. The match concluded with a ring on the room and the briefcases hanging above. During a recent live signing with East Coast Autograph Auctions, former WWE star Nia Jax revealed that the Governor of Connecticut almost shut the match down, with police coming to the building. Despite that, WWE was able to finish filming and shoot the match as planned. It was a unique match. Check out how..
All at once. There are several ways to present a title match as there are often multiple people who want to be champion. That can make for some interesting possibilities as you don’t know what you might be seeing in any given title defense. Sometimes the best solution is to put multiple challengers into the same title shot, which is what we will be seeing later this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Nine In, One Out: Update On WWE’s Plans For Survivor Series (Contains Likely Spoilers) Over the last several weeks, Bobby Lashley and Austin Theory have been chasing Seth Rollins and the United States Title. Rollins defeated Lashley to become champion and then Lashley cost Theory his chance to cash in the Money In The Bank briefcase on Rollins for the title. This week on Monday Night raw, a triple threat match for Survivor Series, with Rollins defending against both Lashley and Theory. This should be good. Check out all three participants: [This post contains video, click to play] [This po..
There it goes. WWE offers several annual traditions, many of which involve championships and shots at them. There are ways to earn a guaranteed title shot at some point down the line, but there is one that lets the challenger choose their shot whenever the feel like it. That was the case this week, but it was in a completely different way than it has ever been done before. This week on Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins issued an open challenge for a shot at the United States Title. Before the match, Bobby Lashley came to the ring and attacked Rollins, putting him through the announcers’ table. Mr. Money In The Bank Austin Theory came to the ring and cashed in his briefcase for a title shot against Rollins. Theory went on to lose the title shot after Lashley interfered. This marked the first time the briefcase has ever been used for anything but a World Title shot. Opinion: It was very different, but I like the idea a lot. There was little reason to believe that Theory was going to win t..
That would be a first. WWE has been around for a rather long time now and they have some traditional shows and events that take place every year. Some of these have long term implications for the top storylines in the company and it can mean a lot for someone to be part of one of them. That was the case earlier this year, and it might still be the case for a large part of next year. Back on July 2, Austin Theory won the men’s Money in the Bank contract, guaranteeing him a World Title shot at any point he chose over the next calendar year. Theory has still yet to cash in, though he has teased doing so on several occasions. According to WrestleVotes via GiveMeSport, WWE is considering having Theory wait one year to cash in. The contract would still be active on the final day Theory can cash it in and his time would be down to minutes. There is no word on if the cash-in would be successful or not. Opinion: This is a different way to go for the briefcase and that is something that could ..
That would be a different way to go. There are a lot of different concepts that WWE presents on a regular basis, some of which have major championship implications. It can mean something big is taking place when one of them is mentioned and sometimes these things are announced in advance. Now we have gotten a big clue about something going in a different way. The closing segment of this week’s NXT featured a three way discussion between the competitors in the Halloween Havoc triple threat match for the NXT Title. At the end of the show, Mr. Money In The Bank Austin Theory, from Monday Night Raw, appeared and suggested that he could cash in his contract for the NXT Title. Theory has held the briefcase since July 2 when he won the Money In The Bank briefcase. This could make things interesting. Check out the big tease: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: In a way, this might be the best thing that could happen to Theory and his briefcase. It has been a long time since..
WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan was recently interviewed by Bleacher Report where she discussed a number of topics. Among them were winning the championship, the turning point in her career, and her future goals, including being in the main event of WrestleMania. Below are some highlights from the interview: On winning the Smackdown Women’s Championship: “That whole day was make or break for me,” she said. “I felt professionally in that moment that if I don’t do this for my fans, I dropped the ball. That’s how I was feeling, so I took it very seriously and felt I had no choice but to win. Heading into the match, I was thinking, ‘OK,’ but as soon as I walked through and heard the crowd, it struck a chord with me for some reason and thought, ‘They want me to win this so bad.’ “It made me emotional. In that moment, I said, ‘I’m doing it. There’s no way I’m leaving this match without that briefcase in my hands.’ It was a very overwhelming feeling where I was trying to compose..
It’s an opportunity. While WWE has a lot of television time to fill, there are only so many spots for the wrestlers to fight over. The top stars have their spots almost guaranteed, but at some point a change might need to be made in order to bring up someone new. That was the case earlier this month, but it turns out that it was more a matter of necessity than anything else. Back at Money In The Bank, Liv Morgan won the show’s namesake match and cashed in her briefcase later in the night to win the SmackDown Women’s Title. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the change took place partially due to Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out on WWE back in May. The company needed a new top female star and the fans had shown enough support for Morgan to give her the spot. Morgan is set to defend her title against Ronda Rousey at Summerslam. Opinion: I don’t think it’s that hard to fathom that WWE didn’t want to push Morgan in the first place given her track record, but at least she is..
They’re doing something right. While the main focus of WWE is on television, there is a lot that takes place off of television that is only there for the fans in attendance. This is mainly the case with live events, where the wrestlers are able to try out some different things. It is also a place where the fans can tell WWE what they might be more interested in seeing, and that was the case again over the weekend. According to PWInsider.com, a source at the SmackDown live events from over the weekend has never heard louder crowd reactions for Liv Morgan. In addition, her merchandise is said to be selling in high numbers at the same events. This comes after Morgan won the women’s Money In The Bank briefcase earlier this month and cashed in on Ronda Rousey to win the SmackDown Women’s Title. Morgan is set to defend against Rousey at Summerslam. Opinion: Well good for Morgan. That is the kind of thing that you want to see as a wrestler and it is also great to see as a fan. Morgan’s titl..
It must be that time of year again because I get to talk about WWE doing something stupid that misses the point of everything they were trying to do. Believe it or not, it’s Money In The Bank season again and despite the show being held just over a week ago, one of the briefcases is already gone. Also believe it or not, WWE didn’t do things in a logical way, but this time they are hammering things into the ground so much that it is somehow becoming even worse. As you will know if you have watched any WWE programming since Money In The Bank, Liv Morgan won the women’s Money In The Bank ladder match, cashed in on an injured Ronda Rousey a few hours later, and is now the SmackDown Women’s Champion. WWE has somehow turned this into a moment on the level of Shawn Michaels’ Boyhood Dream and at this point, I can’t even say I’m surprised. Following the win, and even immediately following it, WWE treated Morgan’s win into something for the ages and hasn’t really stopped since then. Between p..
They seem to be fans. There are certain moments in wrestling that get fans’ emotions going. It can be a lot of fun to see someone getting to do something that makes things interesting but they are pretty rare. You know them when you see them though and that seemed to be the case last weekend. It was so good that even the commentary team got excited. At WWE Money In The Bank, Liv Morgan won the women’s Money In The Bank briefcase and cashed in on the same night, defeating Ronda Rousey to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion. WWE has released a video from the announcers’ table, showing Pat McAfee and Michael Cole’s reaction, with the two of them jumping up in excitement over the cash-in and title change. I’d call it a win. Check out how Cole and McAfee reacted: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: Other than maybe a few glimpses, you might not have seen these reactions at the pay per view. WWE putting out the video made for a great visual, even if commentary was l..
They have a plan for that. Last weekend’s Money In The Bank event was a rather eventful night for WWE. Not only did the company have the show’s two namesake matches, but Miss Money In The Bank Liv Morgan cashed in her briefcase to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion. That was a huge jump up for Morgan and it seems that WWE might have something in mind for her. The Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada is hosting a WWE live event on August 20. The advertisment for the event includes Morgan defending the SmackDown Women’s Title against both Natalya and Ronda Rousey. While the card is subject to change, this show takes place after Summerslam on July 30, suggesting that Morgan could be holding the title beyond the next major event. Morgan cashed in her briefcase on Rousey, following a successful titel defense against Natalya. UPDATED CARD: Newly crowned @WWE SmackDown Women's Champion @YaOnlyLivvOnce will take part in a Triple Threat Match against @RondaRousey and @N..
Monday Night Raw Date: July 4, 2022 Location: Pechange Arena, San Diego, California Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s a special day as we are live on a major holiday, meaning there will be a grand total of no one watching this show. We’re also fresh off of Money In The Bank and one briefcase is down, as Liv Morgan is the new Smackdown Women’s Champion. Theory is no longer the US Champion but he is Mr. Money In The Bank, which he probably will be for a long time since I’m not sure if Roman Reigns works here anymore. Let’s get to it. Ric Flair’s WOO is back in the Then, Now, Forever opening. The opening video features a look at some very American things before promising to celebrate freedom and breaking the bank tonight. Here is new United States Champion Bobby Lashley to get things going. Lashley is very happy to be back and welcomes us to the show. It’s the man that makes the title and there is not another man in any division or promotion who can beat him..
Round two. Money In The Bank has come and gone but WWE has to pick up the pace because Summerslam takes place later this month. That means they need to set up a card for the event in a hurry and thankfully they have already gotten started on the process. Some of the matches will be things that you have seen before and now we know another rematch that will be taking place. At Money In The Bank, Bobby Lashley defeated Theory to become the new United States Champion. This week on Monday Night Raw, Theory announced that he will be receiving his rematch against Lashley at Summerslam. Theory also promised to cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase that night against the winner of the show’s main event. Summerslam takes place on Saturday July 30. Opinion: This is a match that makes sense for both people as there is already a match built in and a reason for it to take place. Theory isn’t likely to get the title back but I’ll take a match like this over throwing something together in such a s..
Run it back? WWE runs a lot of major evens throughout the course of the year and some of them are among the biggest in all of wrestling. That is the case in the summer as well, as can be seen this year. Over the weekend WWE presented its annual Money In The Bank event, with Summerslam following only four weeks later. That means the card needs to be set, and now we might be getting ready for a rematch. At Money In The Bank, Liv Morgan cashed in her Money In The Bank briefcase to defeat Ronda Rousey and win the SmackDown Women’s Title for the first time. Following the win, Rousey congratulated Morgan and left without any incident. According to F4WOnline.com, the current plan is for Morgan to defend the title against Rousey at Summerslam in a rematch. Opinion: This is what you kind of had to expect but it has me worried in more than a few ways. The biggest problem here is that I’m not sure I can buy Morgan retaining the title over Rousey. There are ways around it, such as interference b..
They’re not wasting time. Money In The Bank has become one of the most important shows of the year for WWE and it isn’t a surprise. The show features a pair of matches that can allow nearly guaranteed title changes at some point down the line, making the show’s namesake matches very important for anyone involved. That was the case again this year and things were off to a hot start. WWE held its annual Money In The Bank event this weekend with both a men’s and women’s Money In The Bank ladder match included. First up, Liv Morgan won the women’s edition and cashed in her briefcase on Ronda Rousey later in the night to win the SmackDown Women’s Title. In the show’s main event, Theory won the men’s edition, despite not being entered in the match coming into the show. WWE official Adam Pearce came out before the match and announced that Theory was included. Opinion: It was certainly an eventful night and it is fun to see the briefcase cashed in on the night of the show. I like the idea of..
There’s your change. Titles are one of the most important things in all of wrestling as they often make someone the top star in a promotion. Winning or losing a title can make a huge change for anyone on a roster and it can be quite the new direction for anyone involved. That was the case again this weekend, as a new champion was crowned in a bit of a surprise win. WWE held its annual Money In The Bank event over the weekend and multiple titles changed hands. First up, Bobby Lashley defeated Theory to win the United States Title for the third time. Later in the night, Ronda Rousey successfully defended the SmackDown Women’s Title against Natalya but Miss Money In The Bank Liv Morgan cashed in to win the title. Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair and Tag Team Champions the Usos retained their titles. Opinion: This is the kind of result that I can go for, as I do like the idea of getting rid of one of the briefcases the night of the show. Theory losing the title was a bit of a surprise ..
He got the point across. The Coronavirus changed the way the world worked for a long time but things are mainly back to normal. What matters most is that the health issues and worries have mostly gone away, but it is also nice to see some of our old ways of life coming back. That includes wrestling, with one wrestler now being able to tell a story about the pandemic days. Happy Corbin appeared on Mornings With Matt And Bob in Austin, Texas and talked about the upcoming Money In The Bank pay per view. Corbin also told a story about the 2020 edition, with the briefcase hanging above a ring on top of Titan Towers. During the match, Corbin threw Rey Mysterio off the top of the building, with Mysterio landing via a video edit. According to Corbin, the moment caused at least one fan to call 911 and say that Corbin had killed Mysterio. Opinion: As ridiculous as it might seem, this is the kind of thing that makes wrestling seem more real. The fan bought into what they were seeing so much tha..
Believe In The Shield. WWE has released a new video on YouTube, in which they show the full match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins from the 2016 Money in the Bank pay-per-view. Dean Ambrose, who won the “Money in the Bank” briefcase earlier in the evening, would strike while the iron was hot, and cash in his contract to become the new champion. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The Architect fought like a man looking to reclaim both his title and his pride, facing Reigns for the first time without The Authority or J&J Security ready to intervene on his behalf. Some early ring rust aside, Rollins quickly showed he still possessed the skills that took him to the top. But going toe-to-toe with “The Guy” proved to be a poor strategy when Reigns used his strength advantage to overpower his foe with clotheslines, headbutts and a tilt-a-whirl slam to the reeling Rollins. The Architect remained defiant, if not compet..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Money in the Bank 2021 Date: July 18, 2021 Location: Dickies Arena, Fort Worth, Texas Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton, Michael Cole, Pat McAfee After Friday’s dress rehearsal, it’s time for the first show of any serious value in front of fans. The briefcases get pulled down tonight and it would not surprise me to see one of them get cashed in, as WWE is going to want to have a big splash going into the Summerslam build. A last minute replacement would not be shocking either. Let’s get to it. ..
