REVIEW: No Way Out 2000: The Other Cell Match

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? No Way Out 2000 Date: February 27, 2000 Location: Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, Connecticut Attendance: 12,551 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler This is more or less about one thing: Hell in a Cell. If Cactus Jack loses, he retires. Other than that there isn’t a lot to talk about. Oh actually there is. At the Rumble, Big Show had been thrown out but claimed that Rock was out first. Tonight there’s a match where the winner goes to Mania. The Radicals are here now also so we have a fully fleshed out roster for th..

One More: 51 Year Old Former World Champion Announces Planned Return To The Ring

He’s a big one. There are certain wrestlers who get your attention due to nothing more than how they look. Something about them is so striking or imposing that it is impossible to not pay attention to them. That can be rather beneficial to any star and it has been for several over the years. Now one of the more prominent of his generation is looking to return to the ring. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: They’re Working On It: Multiple AEW Stars Missing From Television For The Time Being AEW’s Paul Wight, formerly known as the Big Show in WWE, was interviewed by Metro UK and spoke about a planned return to the ring. Wight said that he had been planning to return but had some setbacks due to injuries, including a knee replacement last August. Wight has only wrestled four times in about a year and a half with AEW, last wrestling in M..

Next Stop: Two Elimination Chamber Matches With Major Stakes Set

They’re set. The Royal Rumble has come and gone for the year and that means it is time to start getting ready for the rest of the Road To WrestleMania. While the biggest show on the way there is all taken care of, there is still one more big show that needs to be covered. In this case, it is another show with two of its namesake matches taking place on the card. Now we already know a good portion of the lineup. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Former WWE Women’s Champion Returns To Television On February 18, WWE will present its annual Elimination Chamber event, with two Elimination Chamber matches already announced. First up, United States Champion Austin Theory will defend against Seth Rollins, Bronson Reed and Johnny Gargano, plus two more challengers who will qualify next week on Monday Night Raw. AEW Rampage Results – January 13, 2023

Rampage Date: January 13, 2023 Location: Kia Forum, Los Angeles, California Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho We’re still in Los Angeles and you know that is going to mean a big show. I’m not sure what all it is going to entail but that is some of the fun of Rampage. This week’s Dynamite was a strong show so they have a lot to live up to this week. If nothing else, there is a street fight so that means violence. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. TNT Title: Juice Robinson vs. Darby Allin Allin is defending. Feeling out process to start with Robinson grabbing a waistlock to send the champ to the ropes. A headlock slows Robinson down but he grabs a belly to back suplex to escape. The backsplash only hits knees though and Allin is back with another headlock. This time Robinson sends him up and over the top for a nasty crash to the floor, followed by some whips into various hard things. A drop onto the steps rocks Allin again and we take a break. Back wit..

SmackDown Results – January 13, 2023

Smackdown Date: January 13, 2023 Location: Resch Center, Green Bay, Wisconsin Commentators: Wade Barrett, Michael Cole It’s a big show this week as we have a pair of major matches. This week we’ll be seeing another match between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, which should have some Bloodline implications. In addition, Gunther is defending the Intercontinental Title against Braun Strowman. Let’s get to it. Intercontinental Title: Braun Strowman vs. Gunther Strowman is challenging and wearing boots designed by a boy who died in the Waukesha parade shootings. Feeling process to start as Gunther is a bit hesitant to go after him. Strowman manages to send him outside though and the running shoulder sends Gunther into the announcers’ table. We take a break and come back with Strowman getting posted, allowing Gunther to start in on the arm. The armbar goes on but Strowman powers up, only to fall down when the arm gives out. Strowman fights out again and hits a clothesline but the rest of Imper..

AEW Dynamite Results – January 11, 2023

Dynamite Date: January 11, 2023 Location: Kia Forum, Los Angeles, California Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz We’re in for a big show this week as things head back to Los Angeles. AEW knows how to bring it on the bigger stages and that is what should happen here. This week is centered around the ladder match to end the Best Of Seven series between the Elite and Death Triangle for the Trios Titles. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Page They go right to the fighting with Page sending him into the corner for a running boot to the face. Page forearms him down but Moxley fights up and starts the swagger. The cross armbreaker doesn’t work for Moxley so he knocks Page off the apron instead. Back in and Moxley blasts him with a clothesline for two and we take a break. We come back with Moxley hitting another clothesline to set up the exchange of forearms. Page hits the fall away slam and nips up to knock Moxley outside. The moonsault to the floor connec..

REVIEW: New Year’s Revolution 2006: He Did It Before

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. New Year’s Revolution 2006 Date: January 8, 2006 Location: Pepsi Arena, Albany, New York Attendance: 11,000 Commentators: Joey Styles, Jonathan Coachman We’ve got a one match show here and that doesn’t exactly instill me with confidence. This show is all about the Elimination Chamber, with John Cena defending the Raw World Title against five challengers. The only other match of note on the card is Big Show vs. HHH, but it’s a far cry from the main event. Let’s get to it. The opening video only focuses on the Chamber..

In Name Only: Vince McMahon Mentioned On WWE TV Again

He’s still on their minds. This has been one of the most eventful years in the history of wrestling but nothing really comes close to Vince McMahon stepping down as head of WWE. McMahon had been in charge of the company for about forty years and several people have never seen WWE under someone else’s control. Now though, we have heard his name again on WWE programming in a positive light. During the opening match of this week’s NXT, commentator Booker T. mentioned McMahon, referring to him as one of the all time great wrestling minds. The mention came during a list of other promoters, including Paul Bosch. This was one of, if not the, first mentions of McMahon since he officially retired from WWE on July 22 in the midst of an investigation over a string of payments to various women over the years. It was part of a big show. Check out some more of this week’s NXT: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click ..

WATCH: Another Former WWE Star Makes AEW Debut

He’s another one on the list. The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works as there are now several different spots available for various wrestlers. Rather than having WWE as the only major promotion for wrestlers to go to, AEW has offered somewhere new for the wrestlers to go. Some former WWE stars will appear in AEW and now another name has. This week on AEW Dark, former WWE star Sawyer Fulton, now known as Madman Fulton, made his AEW debut, teaming with Ativalu and Troy Hollywood in a losing effort against the Dark Order. During the show, he only appeared under the name “Fulton”. Since leaving WWE, Fulton had appeared in Impact Wrestling as the enforcer for Ace Austin. There is no word on if Fulton will be appearing for AEW on a regular basis going forward. It was a big show. Check out the full episode of Dark (Fulton’s match begins at about 47:55): [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of signing that might be able to lead somewhe..

The main event will see Jon Moxley defending the World Title against Hangman Page, with MJF hanging over their heads. The Trios Titles and the Interim Women’s Title are on the line too as the card is rather stacked. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Trios Titles: Death Triangle vs. Best Friends/Orange Cassidy Death Triangle is defending. Trent shoulders Pac down to start and they trade some jumps until Trent hits a clothesline. Everything breaks down and Fenix hits a heck of a Swanton for two on Chuck, who is back up to toss Fenix into something like a spear. The Friends’ triple splash is broken up and Death Triangle hit the stereo running flip dives to the floor. We settle down to Pac kicking Cassidy in the back of the head and Fenix taking him into the corner as we take a break. Back with ..

WATCH: Surprise Return Sets Up Future WWE Showdown

He’s back. There are all kinds of stars on the WWE roster and some of them are all time legends. WWE knows how to present those wrestlers on a less frequent basis for the sake of keeping them looking strong and it can mean a lot to see those wrestlers show up again every so often. That was the case again this week as a star returned and looks ready for his next big showdown. The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw saw Riddle defeat Damian Priest with the rest of Judgment Day at ringside. Following the match, Edge made his return to the show and attacked Judgment Day before challenging Finn Balor to an I Quit match at Extreme Rules. This was Edge’s return after a two week absence when Judgment Day attacked him and injured his knee. It was a cool moment. Check out Edge’s return: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of return that WWE needs to set things up for their upcoming event. WWE knows that they have something special with Edge and it make..

Impact Wrestling Results – September 22, 2022

Impact Wrestling Date: September 22, 2022 Location: The Factory, Dallas, Texas Commentators: Tom Hannifan, Matthew Rehwoldt It’s the go home show for Victory Road, which means we are about a month away from Bound For Glory. Victory Road is being treated as a pretty big deal so it would make sense to have a good go home show. This week does feature a pretty big showdown with Aussie Open vs. the Motor City Machine Guns. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Digital Media Title: Bhupinder Gujjar vs. Brian Myers Myers is defending in a ladder match. Gujjar slugs away to start and hits a jumping knee to the face. A Samoan drop looks to set up the Gargoyle spear but Myers knees him out of the way. The first ladder is brought in but Gujjar dropkicks it into his face. Myers knocks him outside though and goes up for the title, only to be pulled down into a cutter. Now the Gargoyle spear can send Myers into the ladder but the climb takes too long, as usual. The ladder is knocked into Gujjar and it..

Multiple Title Changes Take Place At AEW Grand Slam

That’s how the big shows go. Titles are what matter the most in wrestling and that has been the case for a very long time now. Fans understand that the wrestlers who hold championships are some of the most important stars in the promotion and a title change means a lot. That was the case this week, as multiple titles changed hands on one of the biggest nights of the year. AEW held its annual Grand Slam episode of Dynamite this week, where three titles changed hands. First up, Chris Jericho used a low blow to defeat Claudio Castagnoli for the Ring Of Honor World Title. Next, the Acclaimed defeated Swerve In Our Glory to win the Tag Team Titles. Finally, Jon Moxley defeated Bryan Danielson to win the vacant AEW World Title. All-Atlantic Champion Pac successfully defended his title against Orange Cassidy and Toni Storm retained the Interim Women’s Title over Britt Baker, Athena and Serena Deeb. Opinion: That is the kind of pay per view level amount of title changes that you almost never..

NXT UK Results – August 4, 2022

NXT UK Date: August 4, 2022 Location: BT Sports Studios, London, England Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Andy Shepherd Things should be getting a bit more energized around here as we had the big showdown for the United Kingdom Title last week. Ilja Dragunov is going to need a fresh opponent after dispatching Wolfgang and a bigger one would be nice. This week is a title week also, as we have Meiko Satomura defending the Women’s Title against Sarray. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here is United Kingdom Champion Ilja Dragunov for a chat….and he’s on crutches. Dragunov says he suffered a severe ankle injury during his title defense last week (insert clip here) and that means he cannot defend his title. Therefore it has to be vacated, but he isn’t going to talk about how hard this is for him. Everyone back there is fighting hard every day and there is nothing special about him. He doesn’t regret anything he did in the ring and when he looks around the ring, there are bits of his so..

Back For A Reason: Surprise NXT Return Sets Up Final Showdown

He’s back. There are a lot of wrestlers on the NXT roster today and it can be difficult to find something for everyone to do. As a result, it can be fairly easy for someone to slip away without being noticed. That can make for a big return later and a nice moment for the fans as they might not know it is coming. NXT did just that this week and a major showdown has been set as a result. This week’s NXT featured the return of Santos Escobar, who cost Tony D’Angelo and the D’Angelo Family the Tag Team Titles. D’Angelo was attempting to use a crowbar but Escobar interfered and attacked D’Angelo instead. Later in the show, D’Angelo challenged Escobar to a final showdown, which will take place next week. This was Escobar’s first appearance since June as he has been out of action with an undisclosed injury. Opinion: The Escobar return was a very well done moment as you only saw his hand and did not know who it was at first. Escobar returning to set up the big showdown with D’Angelo is a goo..

Cut It Down: Summerslam Match Lost Time After Another Match Ran Long

Call it a sacrifice. Over the weekend, WWE presented its annual Summerslam event, featuring some of the biggest matches of the year. The show featured a series of title matches, including some rather big showdowns. One of the last matches of the show certainly fit that description, but it did not wind up lasting very long. It turns out that was due to another match entirely. The semi-main event of Summerslam saw Ronda Rousey failing to regain the SmackDown Women’s Title from Liv Morgan. The two went to a controversial ending with Morgan tapping out just before she pinned Rousey, though the referee only saw the pin. It was a relatively short match at less than five minutes, which was due to another match running long. According to Bryan Alvarez, the match had “a lot” of time cut due to Miz vs. Logan Paul running long earlier in the night. There is no word on how long Morgan vs. Rousey was scheduled to last. That match had a lot of time cut because Miz and Logan went long. HOW ABOUT WE..

He’ll Be Welcomed Back: AEW Star Leaving Company For The Time Being

Please come back? AEW has done a lot of impressive things during its few years as a wrestling promotion and a lot of that has been due to its roster. The company has put together a mixture of current, upcoming and past stars to make a rather diverse roster. They have also brought in several international stars, but now one of them will not be around much longer. AEW’s Konosuke Takeshita has announced that he will be returning to Japan for a big DDT-Pro show and does not have much time left in the United States. He also said that he hopes to come back soon and that fans feel the same way. Takeshita has been appearing for AEW since April, facing such names as Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston. It is not clear when he will return to the company. Your support really encouraged me!! I have to go back to Japan at the DDT big show on August 20. I don't have much time left in the US. I hope to come back to here soon and I hope you all feel the same way.#AEWDarkElevation https://t.co/0yy1Ri..

WATCH: AEW Stars Appear On Monday Night Raw To Praise John Cena

They don’t go here. Twenty years ago Monday, John Cena made his WWE debut on SmackDown. What followed was one of the greatest careers in WWE history, as Cena has gone on to become one of the most decorated champions in the company’s history, as well as developed quite the film career. Now some of his peers are celebrating him, including some surprising names. This week’s Monday Night Raw was focused on Cena and his history with WWE. Throughout the show, various wrestling legends appeared in videos to praise Cena in one way or another. This included current WWE names such as Randy Orton and Stephanie McMahon, former WWE names such as Booker T. and Trish Stratus, plus some current AEW names, including Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan and Big Show. Other names included Kurt Angle, John Bradshaw Layfield, Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels and Triple H. I remember them.
