The more the merrier. AEW has shaken up the wrestling world in a variety of ways, including offering all kinds of fresh content to wrestling fans. He’s busy. We are officially on the Road To WrestleMania 39 and that means it is time to start getting everything in order. This includes setting up the biggest matches possible, some of which can be a bit difficult to pin down. WWE likes to have as many big names on the card as they can, but if they want one of the most important, they are going to have to do it without much time in between. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Wrong Kind: This Royal Rumble Segment Reportedly Did Not Go Over Well Backstage According to Variety.com, John Cena has arrived in Australia to begin shooting on his new film “Ricky Stanicky”. As a result, Cena is expected to be in Australia for the coming weeks. There is no word on if Cena would be able to return to the United States for a WrestleMania 39 match, with the event taking place on April 1 and 2. Cena has teased a feud with Austin Theory, though no match has been officially announced. Cena has an amazing WrestleMania history. Check out his time at the show..
NXT Date: January 10, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Booker T., Vic Joseph It’s New Year’s Evil and this time we have the NXT Title on the line as Grayson Waller challenges Bron Breakker. Other than that, we have a twenty woman battle royal for the #1 contendership to the Women’s Title. Throw in Indus Sher vs. the Creed Brothers and we should be in for a good one. Let’s get to it. We open at Chase U, with Andre Chase assigning the class to watch New Year’s Evil. Chase recaps everything and mentions Australia. A student asks Duke Hudson if he’s Australian and gets thrown out because Thea Hail doesn’t need to be near that kind of stupidity before her battle royal. Hail gets fired up and is all ready to go. Dijak vs. Tony D’Angelo Stacks is here with D’Angelo and Wes Lee is on commentary. They fight to the floor and then back inside, with D’Angelo getting knocked down outside. Back in again where a shot to Dijak lets them head back outside. This ..
It might be a bit. We are closing in on the end of the year and in WWE, that means it is time to start the Road To WrestleMania. Next year, the biggest event of the year will take place near Hollywood, California and that means WWE is going to want to bring out even more top names than usual. It just turns out that one of them might not be available due to other commitments. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Awkward Confession: Sasha Banks Revealed Childhood Crush On Current SmackDown Star According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, John Cena may not be available for next year’s WrestleMania 39 due to a film shoot. Cena is set to be in Australia during February and March, filming a comedy called Ricky Stanicky. While Cena could still make WrestleMania on April 1 and 2, he would not likely be around for television to build any potential match. Cena is currently scheduled for the December 30 SmackDown in Tampa, Florida Cena does have a WrestleMania history. Check out what he has done at the ..
That’s what matters most. WWE does a lot of things and has their hands in a lot of industries around the entertainment world. At the end of the day though, they are a wrestling company and what matters most is getting as many eyes as possible on the product. That makes one of their latest announcements all the better, as more people will be able to view WWE programming. WWE co-CEO Stephanie McMahon has announced that the company has reached a new streaming deal with the Foxtel Group in Australia, resulting in BINGE being the new streaming partner for WWE in the country. According to a press release, the service will offer a 24/7 streaming channel, all major WWE television shows and other events at no extra cost. Opinion: This is something that seems run of the mill for WWE but it also shows you just how big the company is. Getting a new deal with a company big enough to go all over Australia is a major deal and for WWE it feels like something so normal. It brings in more money to WWE..
Maybe next time. WWE runs quite a few shows on any given week from around the country. In addition, the company also goes international with several of its shows, including multiple annual tours outside of the United States. More often than not, these are some of the most successful events that WWE runs every year, but that is not always the case. That seems to be true with some shows that are not going to be happening. Teg Dainty, an Australian entertainment company, has announced that WWE’s upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand, originally scheduled for August, has been postponed with no reason given. There are currently no dates given for the rescheduled shows. The tour has already been postponed multiple times, including more than once due to the Coronavirus pandemic and again this year, with the July date being pushed back to August. Opinion: This is a bit of a confusing situation as the tour seems to have been moved around so many times already. I’m curious to know what is..
The record has been straightened. Wrestlers have a bit of a weird schedule compared to just about every other profession in the world. There is only so much personal time to be had for people who are constantly on the road around the country and it can create quite the set of problems. This includes in romantic relationships, but several wrestlers find a way around that by dating others in the business. However, that isn’t the case this time around. NXT’s Grayson Waller has sent out a tweet clarifying that despite some photos and suggestions on social media, he and Indi Hartwell are not dating. Waller said that despite Hartwell’s efforts, he has not come to the US to date “some bogan Australian”. He also asks for everyone to respect his privacy and signs the message NXT Legend Grayson Waller. Hartwell responded with a tweet of her own, saying that Waller was at her wedding to Dexter Lumis. It’s the end of an era. Wrestling is a sport that works a lot better when you can see what is going on. You can only get so far without being able to watch everything and luckily that has gotten a lot easier over time. The rise of streaming video has been a game changer for wrestling fans in a very positive way. Now though, it seems to have led to the demise of something else. According to Wrestling DVD Network, WWE will be discontinuing DVDs and Blu-Rays in the United States, Australia and Canada starting in 2022. The final release will be Survivor Series 2021, which will be released on December 28. The United Kingdom will continue to receive viewers through March. There is no word on why WWE has decided to discontinue the sales. I do get the change. Check out some of the matches that were featured on more than one DVD: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not surprised that ..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Super Show-Down Date: October 6, 2018 Location: Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, Australia Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves We’re at the latest big international show here and that means…well it’s hard to say actually. There’s a lot going on at the moment in WWE but they have a tendency to turn these shows into a glorified house show with almost nothing happening. Hopefully WWE has figured that out and knows that we need to actually get something important on the show. Let’s get to it. Th..
Don’t count on it. There are certain wrestlers in the world who feel like bigger stars than others. Even with those wrestlers, there is one above the rest of them in the Rock. It is amazing to see how far he has gone both in Hollywood but he still does pop up in wrestling every now and then. That has been rumored for an upcoming major show, but that does not seem likely. According to Andrew Zarian on the Mat Men Wrestling podcast, the Rock is unlikely to appear at this year’s Survivor Series as has been previously rumored. The Rock is scheduled to be in Australia filming his Young Rock series, though there is always the possibility that Rock could fly to New York City to the show and then return back to filming. Whether he appears or not, WWE is expected to present a special tribute for Rock’s 25th anniversary in the company. The Rock has had his share of legendary moments in WWE. Check out what he has done in the company: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post conta..
That’s a new one. There are all kinds of characters in the wrestling world and some of them stand out more than others. Sometimes you see something based on a popular TV show or a movie, but every now or then you see something that is out of the past. These have a tendency to stand out quite a bit, and now we might be seeing the same thing all over again. Shane Thorne wrestled a dark match before this week’s SmackDown where he debuted a new gimmick. Thorne’s new character is inspired by Crocodile Dundee, a 1986 Australian movie. After his debut, Thorne tweeted out clips from Crocodile Dundee and the Crocodile Hunter, talking about how great the two of them were. Thorne has not wrestled on television since the April 9 SmackDown and there is no word on when he will be returning to WWE television. I loved it! ? pic.twitter.com/dS85wdfS3q — Kim (@kimberlasskick) September 25, 2021 Suuuuure Croc Dundee isn't cool… ? pic.twitter.com/CUKdlc0bgg — Shane Thorne (@WWEThorne) September ..
It was a busy week. There have been a lot of changes in WWE and NXT over the last few months and those are going to continue going forward. With so many moves being made, it can be easy to lose track of who is doing what and even who everyone is. That was the case again this week, as several new names and faces made a variety of debuts during the latest episode of NXT. There were four debuts of different kinds during this week’s edition of NXT. First up, a woman named Persia debuted during Indi Hartwell’s bachelorette party. Persia said that she came from Australia to see Disney World and stayed for her best friend’s party. She is better known as Steph de Lander, an Australian wrestlers who signed with WWE back in March. Later in the show, the Creed Brothers, Julius and Brutus, made their in-ring debuts as part of the Diamond Mine, winning a short match. The two had been shown helping to train the Diamond Mine in recent weeks. Later in the show, Mei Ying made her in-ring debut and wo..
Face time! One of the best things about Impact Wrestling in 2020 was the mystery of Slammiversary. The company made it very clear that some of the recently released WWE stars would be heading to the promotion but the question was which ones would be there. It made for some great drama and then the payoff wound up working rather well. It went so well that they might as well try it again. It worked before. Check out the teaser for this year’s Slammiversary: During Sunday’s Rebellion pay per view, Impact Wrestling aired an ad for July’s Slammiversary event. The video featured brief flashes of recently released WWE stars, including Samoa Joe, Chelsea Green and Mickie James, all of whom have worked for Impact Wrestling before. Also included were flags of Australia and Mexico, along with Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito and the Great Muta. Slammiversary 2020 saw the debuts of the Good Brothers and the returns of Eric Young and EC3. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that gets my attention a..
You have to keep things fresh. Wrestling is like almost any other sport, as there are different styles in different parts of the world. That can make for some interesting matches when you put those styles against each other, which is where a promotion can have some fun. It makes sense to sign wrestlers from various places and now WWE is trying to do just that. WWE is the biggest and most international wrestling promotion in the world, with fans from dozens of countries. As a result, it makes sense to have wrestlers from various countries from outside of the United States as well, which is something WWE has done fairly well over the years. That is the case again, as they have signed two more international stars to the company. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has signed two Australian wrestlers to the company. First is Matty Wahlberg, who debuted in 2017 and was trained by Madison Eagles and Robbie Eagles. The second is Steph De Lander, who also debuted in 2017. She received a tryout a..
The surprise explanation. There are times where WWE presents an angle or plot point that changes something in a hurry and it doesn’t make the most sense. That can be a good or a bad thing given the circumstances, but unfortunately it tends to be the latter more often than not. There was a rather surprising change this week on Monday Night raw and now we know why. During this week’s Monday Night Raw, the IIconics lost a match to the Riott Squad where the winners received a future Women’s Tag Team Titles. However, the losers were forced to disband forever, meaning the IIconics are no more. They have been together for a long time now and even knew each other from their high school days in Australia. The team is now done, and as random as it seemed, WWE has their own reason. According to PW Insider Elite Audio, the IIconics were split up for the sake of pushing Peyton Royce as a singles wrestler. The plan had always been to push Royce on her own and WWE is deciding to pull the trigger no..
She would know best. Over the weekend, WrestleMania 36 saw several memorable moments take place, many of which changes the directions of wrestlers involved. Many of these involved title changes, which can make for some interesting paths going forward. One of them was a little surprising, but an explanation came out as a result. Now though, that explanation needs an update. WrestleMania 36 Night Two opened with Charlotte defeating Rhea Ripley to become the new NXT Women’s Champion. The title change was quite the surprise as Ripley had become one of the bigger stars in NXT, including a major win to take the title from Shayna Baszler. Then Charlotte just beat her, which made some fans think something might be up. As it turns out, that may not have been the case. On Tuesday, reports emerged that Ripley had returned to her native Australia due to her work visa expiring in the United States. However, Ripley responded to the rumors on Wednesday, sending out a video showing that she is still..
Let the momentum continue. According to the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW will be entering the UK Market with its upcoming Double or Nothing pay-per-view event. They recently announced that Double or Nothing will be carried in the UK from 1 to 5 a.m. early Sunday morning, May 26, on ITV Box Office for 14.95 pounds ($19.44 U.S.). It should be noted that the UK traditionally has far cheaper PPV prices than the U.S., Canada and Australia, whether it be boxing or WWE. In addition, there will be a one hour pre-show, called “BUY-IN”, at midnight airing on ITV 4, featuring the Casino Battle Royale as well as a singles match with Sammy Guevara vs. Kip Sabian. Check out the latest episode of their road to Double or Nothing: The ITV 4 deal is leading to speculation that it would carry AEW’s weekly shows. A deal is not currently in place, however. Editor’s Thoughts: I can see AEW being huge in the UK market. They have a large fan base of rabid fans, and many people ..
Ring of Honor Date: November 21, 2018 Location: 2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Colt Cabana We’re still in Philadelphia and the big story coming out of last week was the return of Dalton Castle, who helped Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham defeat the Kingdom. Then he made it clear that he wanted the World Title, which means he’ll likely be facing either Lethal or Taven at the upcoming Final Battle. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Castle returning and looking at the title. Opening sequence. Here are Castle and the Boys to get things going. Castle mentions that he was injured for over three months, but he didn’t go home and just sip mint juleps. He went home and sipped mint juleps but started putting in the world. Castle went to physical therapy and even went to Australia to kiss a kangaroo. Now though, his lone mission is to get back the World Title. He wants the champ, but gets Matt Taven instead. He’s the only man who can call himself the..
