The significant success of the El Grande Americano character in AAA, along with the fresh announcement of a tournament to determine a Mexican hopeful for Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Crown, has led many faithful to speculate that Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) might win and receive another featured role on the WWE main talent pool.
Yet, Dave Meltzer stated in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that rumors of this nature are unfounded. He pointed out that the promotional material for the tournament did not even feature Americano — instead highlighting Penta, La Parka, El Fiscal, El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., Dragon Lee, Fenix, Psycho Clown, and Laredo Kid.
While there’s no guarantee that the winner will come from this group, Meltzer noted that Penta is the only one among them who got pushed at a level that would make sense for a WWE crown contest. It seems logical for WWE to elevate him into the World Prize scene, given that Penta as of late lost the Intercontinental Title. In contrast, it is less likely that they would consider someone like El Fiscal, who is relatively unknown to WWE main collection of stars faithful.
Furthermore, with Reigns appearing to overlook WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio as the storyline General Manager for AAA — the tournament angle doesn’t seem to benefit AAA significantly. Therefore, it makes sense that a challenger with more ties to WWE emerges as the winner.
