NXT UK Results – April 16, 2020

April 16, 2020 • Admin

NXT UK Date: April 16, 2020 Host: Andy Shepard The hiatus continues and this time around we have a new theme with Superstar Picks. It’s exactly what it sounds like with wrestlers picking their favorite matches to air. In theory that is going to be a lot of stuff from NXT UK but I don’t know if that is guaranteed. Let’s get to it. There is a crawler acknowledging the death of Howard Finkel. That’s certainly better than nothing and about all they could do given the time situation. Opening sequence. Andy welcomes us to the show and explains the idea. Dave Mastiff’s pick is from Madison Square Garden, August 30, 1982. Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid It’s Vince alone on commentary as Tiger sweeps the leg to start, earning himself an elbow to the face. An elbow drop misses so Tiger kicks him hard into the corner. A very spinning takedown takes Kid down and we hit the leg crank as you can tell the fans are impressed with this stuff. Back up and Dynamite grabs a slam to set up a middle rope ..

How Much Money WWE Saved Through Roster Cuts

April 16, 2020 • Admin

That was kind of the point. On Wednesday, WWE underwent one of its biggest shakeups in history, with nearly thirty wrestlers being released from the main roster alone, plus several producers being furloughed and several NXT wrestlers being let go as well. It changed a lot of things about the company and several people were not happy. WWE seemed to be though, as they have accomplished a goal. As you probably figured out, the cuts were designed to save WWE some money. That might not sound like the nicest thing in the world given how much money WWE has and also brags about having, but with so many revenue streams cut off at the moment, it isn’t exactly a surprise. The company needs to save some money in this situation, but how much did they exactly save? According to Dave Meltzer via Twitter, WWE is saving about $703,000 per month on all of the cuts. When added together with other cost cutting measures, including no longer moving their headquarters to a new office, the savings goes up t..

Wrestling World Reacts To Ronda Rousey’s Recent Comments

April 13, 2020 • Admin

You had to expect something like this after what Rousey said. Like so many other sports, wrestling is like a family. Yes they will fight a lot and get into it with each other, but woe unto anyone who dares have something bad to say about the family as a whole. This can include outsiders or former insiders who aren’t happy with the way things went. That is the case again, but it is a big name from the outside with something to say. One of the biggest stories over the last week has been Ronda Rousey’s comments on her time in WWE. Rousey made it clear that she loved working with the women in the company but was not pleased with the fans, who she described as “ungrateful” and referring to wrestling as “fake fighting”. It was not the most flattering interview for the wrestling industry and various people involved in said industry have responded in kind. Some wrestling personalities have responded to Rousey’s interview, with some responding kindly and others responding negatively. There ha..

VIDEO: Andrade Surprises Charlotte And Destroys A Box

April 13, 2020 • Admin

It comes with being a couple. Wrestling relationships are a difficult thing to make work. WWE wrestlers are constantly moving around the country, if not the world, going to shows and doing whatever their bosses ask of them. It is even more difficult when they are bigger stars, but things can be a lot easier if they are on the same shows. Sometimes they get the chance to unwind, but that might not be the most traditional actions. There are a variety of couples in WWE today and one of the most prominent is Charlotte and Andrade. The two of them have been dating since last year and both currently hold championships. With the nearly nationwide quarantine taking place, the couple has had some extra time together on their hands, meaning they can get in a little additional practice, albeit not in the most normal way. Andrade has posted a video to his Instagram page, showing he and Charlotte at home. During the video, Andrade goes to hug Charlotte but then slams her onto a box in a surprise...

WWE Announces Details, Including Lineup, For New Tournament

April 13, 2020 • Admin

So who do you have now? The spread of the Coronavirus has changed the way the wrestling world works as there is only so much that can be done when wrestlers are stuck in different countries. WWE has noticed just that and has decided on a solution to get around the problem with one of their current champions. Now we know a lot more about how they are dealing with things. Earlier this week, WWE announced a tournament to crown a new Interim Cruiserweight Champion due to regular champion Jordan Devlin not being able to defend the title at the moment. The tournament is set to be held under a round robin format, featuring two groups of four wrestlers each. Each wrestler will face the other three wrestlers in his group and the wrestler with the best record from each group will face off for the title. Now we know where this is going. WWE has officially announced the two groups of wrestlers who will compete for the Interim Cruiserweight Title. The groups are divided up as follows: Group A Ku..

Update On Becky Lynch And Seth Rollins’ Relationship

April 13, 2020 • Admin

It’s another kind of casualty for Lynch and Rollins. The spread of the Coronavirus has changed a lot of things about the world, including almost everything in the wrestling world. It is the kind of thing that the company could not have seen coming, just like almost everyone else in the world. This includes personal relationships, and one such wrestling relationship has had something changed as a result. One of the less popular WWE storylines from 2019 was the on-screen relationship between Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and Universal Champion Seth Rollins. The real life couple was paired together on WWE television and went on to main event Extreme Rules 2019. Fans were not thrilled with the way the couple was presented and the relationship has not been mentioned on WWE television in a long time. They are still together behind the scenes and became engaged in August 2019, but something has changed, at least for the moment. Lynch recently spoke to Extra.ie (Irish website) to discuss ..

Revival Seemingly Reveal Big Details About Post WWE Careers

April 13, 2020 • Admin

That’s the next step. While WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world, they are not the right fit for everyone involved. That is the kind of thing that is just going to happen every now and then and it does not mean the wrestlers are not talented. All it means is that they might be better off elsewhere, and now we know what two of them are going to do next. Earlier this week, it was announced that the Revival had officially been released from their WWE contracts. This comes after over a year of the team trying to get out of their deals due to not being happy with their situation in WWE. Now that they are free, it is time to see what is next for them, which includes something that has to be changed from their time with WWE. According to Wrestlinginc.com, the two members of the team have both filed some trademarks related to the team. The two now own the items No Flips, Just Fists, Say Yeah, Top Guys, Shatter Machine #FTRKO and #FTR. They have also changed t..

Former Champion Promises WWE Return

April 13, 2020 • Admin

They could use the depth. In February 2019, the WWE brought back its Women’s Tag Team Titles. The titles had been around in the late 1980s to limited success but after the Women’s Revolution changed everything about women’s wrestling, WWE decided that a second run might be in order. That has not exactly been the case as the titles have not had the most success, but a return boost might help. Part of the problem with the titles being back is the lack of the depth to the division. The titles will go months without being defended at times, at least partially because there is no one to challenge for them. That was certainly the case for the first three months of 2020, as the titles were not defended on television from the middle of December 2019 until WrestleMania 36. Now though, we might be getting some more depth for the division. Peyton Royce recently filmed a Q&A for her Instagram and, according to 411mania.com, she and Billie Kay will be bringing the IIconics back to WWE TV. Royce m..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – April 8, 2020

April 12, 2020 • Admin

Ring of Honor Date: April 8, 2020 It’s another profile edition this week with Jay Lethal, who really does deserve something like this. Lethal might not be everyone’s favorite but he has been one of the real constants around here for a long time. Those title reigns of his make him one of the few elite stars in the company, with his only competition also oddly enough being named Jay. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Lethal can’t figure out a choice for his favorite match around here. We hear a bit about his first big matches around here, way before he became a top star. He didn’t think he belonged here and two years into his career he was facing AJ Styles and Bryan Danielson. Then Dusty Rhodes came in and because Jay was part of Special K, he got to get in a cage with him and he couldn’t believe it. As for his favorite match, it was against Jay Briscoe at Best in the World with his family being there in the crowd. His dad was at his first Ring of Honor match and begged Jay not to m..

Impact Wrestling Results – April 7, 2020

April 12, 2020 • Admin

Impact Wrestling Date: April 7, 2020 Location: Coca Cola Roxy, Atlanta, Georgia Commentators: Madison Rayne, Josh Matthews Things are getting interesting around here as they are running out of original content but apparently are going to do a big empty arena taping soon enough. As a result, we could be seeing a lot of Rebellion, though not quite in the same situation. I’ll take what I can get though as they’ve made me want to see the pay per view. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Opening sequence. Here’s an annoyed Willie Mack for a chat. He calls out Ace Austin and Reno Scum for attacking the injured Rich Swann last week so come out here and try that on him. Cue Reno Scum so Mack says let’s do this. Willie Mack vs. Reno Scum The brawl is on in a hurry with Mack sending Thornstowe outside but the numbers game takes him down early on. Legend drops Thornstowe down in a legdrop for two and we get the Pit Stop for a bonus. Thornstowe gets two off a standing moonsault and we hit the nec..

WATCH: Undertaker Offers High Praise For Recent Match

April 12, 2020 • Admin

You don’t hear this very often. Wrestling is a very unique industry, but at the same time it does have a lot of similarities to more traditional ones. Something you get in a lot of jobs is the desire to be praised by your peers. These are the people who do the same thing you do so hearing them say you’ve done something well is a nice feeling. When it is from one of the best of all time, it is even better. WrestleMania 36 featured two matches (kind of) which were not your traditional wrestling matches. This included the Boneyard Match, which was your much more traditional match and then the Firefly Fun House Match, which one of the most bizarre things that you will ever see in all of wrestling. Someone involved in one of the matches certainly liked what he saw and that is some high praise. Undertaker appeared in an interview with Nine Line Apparel and answered a question about the Firefly Fun House Match. Undertaker praised the match, talking about how different and unique it was. He ..

Plans Revealed For Future Ronda Rousey WWE Return

April 12, 2020 • Admin

There’s a plan there. Over the last few years, the Women’s Revolution has changed almost everything about women’s wrestling for the better. The days of the division being little more than an afterthought and the women mainly serving as eye candy are long gone and that is a positive step forward. Ronda Rousey was a big cause of this even before she came to WWE and now she might be ready for another run. Earlier this week, Rousey gave an interview saying that she left WWE partially due to the “ungrateful” fans. Rousey did praise the rest of the women’s division but did not make her seem happy with the rest of her time with the company. She mentioned a potential return though, and that has been a topic of discussion for over a year now. With that being said, of course there seem to be plans for such a return. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Rousey is indeed coming back to WWE for another match, though details on the situation are not clear at the moment. There is no word on who s..

WWE Employee Tests Positive For Coronavirus, WWE Addresses Situation

April 12, 2020 • Admin

You had to know this was coming one day. There is nothing bigger going on in the world at the moment than the spread of the Coronavirus. Countries have basically gone on lockdown because of it and all kinds of industries, including wrestling, have almost been stopped cold as a result. For most people, it has become a question of when someone you know will get sick and that is no longer the case in WWE. One of the biggest issues that a lot of people have had with WWE and AEW moving forward with their events is the possibility of spreading the virus should someone involved get sick. It is a case of one person contracting the virus and spreading it around, which is a fair criticism. So far the wrestlers have stayed safe, but that is no longer the case for the WWE as a whole. According to Fightful.com, WWE has sent its wrestlers a memo stating that a WWE employee has tested positive for Coronavirus. The unnamed employee is not an in-ring performer and has not had any contact with anyone ..

Why WWE Is Running Live Events Again, Including Official Statement

April 12, 2020 • Admin

Does that make it better? The world is pretty much in chaos at the moment and it is not clear how much worse things are going to get before they start getting better. The spread of the Coronavirus has turned so many things upside down and it almost makes anything traditionally normal sound insane at the moment. That is the case in wrestling as well, but that has never stopped WWE. Now we might know why. On Friday, news broke that WWE was planning on running live television again every week with Monday Night Raw, NXT and SmackDown all taking place from the Performance Center. This would be practically the only major sporting event running in the country at the moment and the news was not exactly well received. We now may know some of WWE’s rationale. According to F4WOnline.com, Vince McMahon made the change on Friday, though it had been his plan all along. One of the biggest reasons for the change is to avoid running too many taped shows on the USA and FOX networks due to WWE’s agreem..

WWE Announces New Tournament With Unique Format

April 12, 2020 • Admin

They haven’t done something like this before. There are a lot of ways to crown champions in wrestling but one of the most popular is through a tournament. This is a really simple way to go about doing things: put everyone in a field and have the last person standing take the prize. It’s a very simple concept, but there are other ways to try it, one of which WWE will be trying. Earlier this week, WWE announced that they will be crowning an interim Cruiserweight Champion due to Jordan Devlin not being able to defend the title. Devlin will still be the official champion, but WWE needs to crown a champion to defend the title in his absence. However, WWE is going to be doing something else this time around and it could be an interesting change. WWE.com has announced the format for the upcoming tournament, which will feature a round robin format rather than the traditional single elimination. The tournament will include eight entrants in two blocks. Each of the four entrants per block will..

VIDEO: 30 Fast Facts About Becky Lynch

April 11, 2020 • Admin

She’s earned the praise. We are over a year into the Becky Lynch Raw Women’s Title reign and Lynch is showing few signs of slowing down. She has become one of the biggest stars in wrestling and the biggest star in the history of women’s wrestling. After a year as champion, Lynch has become a top star in all of WWE. Now, WWE is taking a closer look at the Man. Lynch has been in WWE since 2013 and during that time, she has gone from just another wrestler to someone who has reached heights that almost no one in all of wrestling ever has. Her time before the WWE was fascinating in its own right and that is something that is worth looking at again. That’s what WWE is doing here, in a rather cool mini biography on Lynch. WWE has released a video looking at Lynch’s life and career, showing a look at thirty different Lynch facts. These include entries about her personal life, NXT career and time on the main roster, including various specific moments and milestones in her career. Lynch has cu..

REVIEW: Takeover Chicago II: The Forgotten Gargano vs. Ciampa Match

April 9, 2020 • Admin

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Takeover: Chicago II Date: June 16, 2018 Location: Allstate Arena, Rosemont, Illinois Commentators: Vic Joseph, Nigel McGuinness, Percy Watson It’s time for a sequel and that means things might not be quite as good as it was before. However, the card looks very strong here with all five matches having the potential to steal the show. The main event will likely be Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano II in a street fight, which is completely different than an unsanctioned match. Let’s get to it. The open..

KB’s Review: Boneyard Edition

April 9, 2020 • Admin

With WrestleMania 36 out of the way, we are now into the new season of the wrestling world. That can make for some interesting changes, but it also means looking back at what was just finished to see what was working and what wasn’t. That includes WrestleMania itself, and that’s what we are going to be looking at today. Not the entire show (Or is it shows?) but rather one thing from the first night. I think you know what that thing is going to be. As you might have guessed, WrestleMania is built around wrestling. By definition, wrestling is a physical sport and therefore you can only do so much before father time catches up with you. At some point you just can’t do it anymore, but in wrestling there are little ways around those physical limitations. Those ways were on display over the weekend, but that doesn’t mean they were the best methods available. Or then again they might have been, which is what we’re going to get into here. The match which is receiving the most attention from ..

NXT Results – April 8, 2020

April 9, 2020 • Admin

NXT Date: April 8, 2020 Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida Commentator: Mauro Ranallo We’re in the marathon taping session now and this time around we have a big double main event. This week’s show will feature the six woman ladder match to crown a new #1 contender, but the real big match is the final showdown between Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano in a battle years in the making. Let’s get to it. The opening video is all about Gargano vs. Ciampa. Tegan Nox vs. Dakota Kai vs. Io Shirai vs. Chelsea Green vs. Mia Yim vs. Candice LeRae Ladder match for the #1 contendership and Robert Stone and Raquel Gonzalez are here too. It’s a brawl to start with Kai being left alone in the ring. Gonzalez throws in a ladder but a bunch of the women take her out and triple team Kai in the corner. Green gets caught on the apron for a series of forearms to knock her down as well. It’s time for the first ladder as Stone tries to set up a table on the floor. LeRae and Shirai fight o..

VIDEO: Money In The Bank Match Suggested

April 9, 2020 • Admin

It’s the logical way to go. There were a lot of stories at WrestleMania 36 and some of them took some rather big turns. A lot of these changes are the kind of things that can reshape both WWE TV as well as the wrestlers’ futures for a long time to come. That can set up matches for the future, and one of the more interesting stories on Sunday could be doing just that. One of the biggest stories from WrestleMania was the romance between Mandy Rose and Otis. The two have been teasing getting together for a long time now and finally did so on Sunday, despite the efforts of Dolph Ziggler and Sonya Deville. Otis and Rose had their first kiss at WrestleMania but the story does not seem likely to end there, at least not if Otis gets his way. Otis appeared on Rose’s Instagram live stream on Wednesday and suggested a match for Money in the Bank. During the stream, Otis brought up the suggestion of himself and Rose teaming up to face Deville and Ziggler in a mixed tag at the pay per view. Rose ..
