Backstage News On AEW’s Plans For Hangman Page vs. Kenny Omega

July 2, 2021 • Admin

It’s the long term plan. In comparison to other promotions, AEW has not been around for very long. However, in the just over two years AEW have been around, the promotion has built up a nice reputation in a few areas. One of these areas is their pay per views, which have been rather well received for the most part. They have another one coming up and now we know what the plan is for the top of the card. This week on AEW Dynamite, the Dark Order suggested that Hangman Page receive the next shot at the AEW World Title, though Page seemed hesitant to accept. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the plan is to have Page accept being #1 contender with the title match taking place at All Out on September 5. AEW is taking its time as the title match will not be held for over two months so they want to wait a few more weeks before officially making the announcement. The story has been put together. Updates On Two Wrestlers Injured This Week

July 2, 2021 • Admin

That could be worse. Injuries are the kind of things that happen to everyone at some point or another in wrestling. That does not make it any better, but one of the worst parts is waiting to find out how long someone could be out of action. Every injury is different, which was the case this week as two wrestlers were hurt on back to back days. Now we know a little more about both. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Mercedes Martinez suffered a concussion during this week’s edition of NXT when Xia Li kicked her in the head. The match was stopped as a result of the injury, as Martinez was not able to stay down to be covered. There is no word on how much time Martinez could miss because of the injury, as concussions can take different amounts of time to heal. The other injury this week took place on AEW Dynamite, when Rebel suffered a dislocated kneecap during a tag team match. Rebel was breaking up a pinfall attempt when her knee went out, causing her to miss the rest of the match ..

WATCH: Shaquille O’Neal Ready For Dream Match In AEW

July 2, 2021 • Admin

That would be a big one. Celebrities have made appearances in wrestling for decades now and that will always be the case. It is the kind of thing that makes all kinds of sense, as wrestling fans want to see what happens when an outsider comes into their world. If it is someone who has an athletic background of their own, it can be made even easier. That might be the case again, in a rather big way. During an interview with Pop Culture, Shaquille O’Neal talked about wanting to face AEW’s Paul Wight in a match at some point in the future. The match was hinted at in WWE in 2016 but never took place, reportedly due to WWE thinking O’Neal would not have taken it seriously enough. Since the, O’Neal has wrestled in a tag team match in AEW, teaming with Jade Cargill to face Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet in a losing effort on March 3. There has been no suggestion of such a match from AEW. O’Neal has some experience. Check out his time in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [Th..

NXT UK Results – July 1, 2021

July 2, 2021 • Admin

NXT UK Date: July 1, 2021 Location: BT Studios, London, England Commentators: Andy Shepherd, Nigel McGuinness We have a pretty stacked card this week with Jordan Devlin vs. A-Kid and Tyler Bate defending the Heritage Cup against Jack Starz. This is a good example of what NXT UK does well, as they have built those matches up to feel important rather than throwing big names out there and having them do whatever. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Emilia McKenzie vs. Isla Dawn McKenzie charges straight at her but Dawn hammers her down. That doesn’t seem to bother McKenzie, who is back with a swinging neckbreaker into a suplex. Dawn gets in some stomping and a forearm to the back of the neck gets two. What might have been a botched suplex is turned into a small package to give Dawn two more and McKenzie is sent outside. A whip into the barricade has McKenzie in more trouble but she comes back in with an enziguri and a cutter. McKenzie’s spear only hits knee though and a Saito suplex pl..

More WWE Employees Let Go From The Company

July 2, 2021 • Admin

Down they go as well. WWE has been in the middle of a huge shakeup as of late as the company has been going through a number of personnel changes. While the changes to the active roster get the most attention, there have been several moves made behind the scenes as well. This includes a good many people being let go from the company, and now more can be added to the list. According to PWInsider.com, WWE let more employees go from WWE HQ, though it is not clear how many are now gone. Some of the people fired were from the marketing department but there are no details about how many lost their jobs. This is the latest in a series of cuts and releases as new WWE President Nick Khan reshapes the company under authority from Vince McMahon. WWE has some experience with the market. Check out some of their time working with it (yeah I’m stretching): [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: Th..

Former WWE Star Confirms Retirement From Wrestling

July 2, 2021 • Admin

Just to confirm. Second generation wrestlers are often put in an especially hard situation. Simply having to live up to your parent’s name is almost impossible to pull off a lot of the time and it is made even harder if you are the son or daughter of a successful wrestler. That can often drag a career down, and now it seems that such a career is officially over, which probably is not the biggest surprise. In a new interview with Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Ted DiBiase Jr. confirmed that he considers himself retired from wrestling at the moment. DiBiase mentioned that he believes that to be the case at the moment, but he could not rule out a return to the ring at some point in the future as he still has the itch to get back in the ring. While a possibility, DiBiase said it would have to be the right scenario for him to wrestle again. DiBiase is the son of Ted DiBiase Sr. and is best known for his time in WWE where he wrestled under his real name from 2007-2013. During his time with ..

The opening recap looks at the end of last week’s show with Dreamer announcing Callis’ firing. Don Callis and Kenny Omega arrive but Callis is not on the talent list. Callis lists off his recent accomplishments and he insists that he is here with Omega. Rosemary vs. Kiera Hogan Tasha Steelz is here with Hogan. REVIEW: Ring Of Honor 19th Anniversary: Even More Of Them

July 1, 2021 • Admin

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? 19th Anniversary Show Date: March 26, 2021 Location: UMBC Event Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman, Rocky Romero This is the Ring of Honor Wrestlemania season show and I get to continue my tradition of taking forever to get to the company’s pay per views. Things are still getting back to normal after the pandemic, though Rush is still the World Champion and defending the title against Jay Lethal. Let’s get to it. Commentary kicks us off with some bad news: Dragon Lee is off the ..

Nasty Injury Takes Place During AEW Dynamite

July 1, 2021 • Admin

A freak accident. You never know when you are going to see an injury in wrestling and that is never a good thing. No matter how well trained these wrestlers may be, there is always the chance of a freak accident, which can often be the most deadly. Sometimes a simple, run of the mill move can put someone on the shelf for a long time, which seems to be the case again. Rebel was injured during a tag team match on this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite. During the match between Rebel and Britt Baker against Nyla Rose and Vickie Guerrero, Rebel attempted to break up a pinfall attempt and hurt her leg in the process. She was not seen again for the rest of the match. According to Fightful Select, Rebel suffered a dislocated kneecap, with no other details available. There is no word on Rebel’s diagnoses or how much ring time she could miss. It was a nasty moment. Check out Rebel being carried from the ring and her in better health: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contain..

Triple H Stayed In Contact With Jon Moxley For A Good Reason

July 1, 2021 • Admin

Across enemy lines. Wrestling has changed a lot over the years, but there are some things that are absolute standards. One of the biggest is wrestling companies not exactly getting along with each other, which makes sense as it is all about business. The companies each want to make the most money possible, but that does not mean everyone is at each others’ throats. Now we have a good example of some good will. During a recent episode of her Oral Sessions podcast, Renee Paquette talked about how WWE COO Triple H would check on her husband Jon Moxley when he was out of action with a staph infection. This came after Moxley had left WWE and moved over to AEW, though Triple H continued to ask about Moxley, saying WWE would help him in any way they could. Paquette said that it was nice to know that the olive branch was still there and that “nothing bad went down.” Moxley wrestled for WWE from 2011 – 2019 under the name Dean Ambrose. During his time with the company, Moxley won several titl..

MVP Rips Fans For Criticizing WWE Television

July 1, 2021 • Admin

I guess he is a fan. Wrestling fans can be rather critical of the product at times and WWE is certainly no exception. The company ‘s fans regularly express their issues with what is going on in WWE and can get rather upset by what they are presented with on a regular basis. These complaints are seen by people who work in WWE and now one of them is speaking back. Monday Night Raw star MVP sent out a tweet earlier this week, criticizing fans for making assumptions based on their fantasy booking and criticizing wrestling shows based on their fantasy booking. It is not clear which incidents or tweets caused him to make these statements. MVP later responded to a fan saying that WWE presented “same garbage every week”, with MVP saying that the fan said the same garbage every week. 2 things today's wrestling fans LOVE: Assumptions about what or who is coming next based on their fantasy booking. Criticizing whatever wrestling show they're watching based on their fantasy booking. —..

Burger King Weighs In On Current WWE Storyline

July 1, 2021 • Admin

I guess that’s their taste. With so many things going on in WWE at any given time, it can be difficult to keep track of everything. Sometimes you have some angles which stand out more than others, but everyone is going to be impressed by something else. That is the case with run of the mill fans, but also apparently the case with a huge chain of fast food restaurants. This week on Monday Night Raw, Damian Priest and Riddle spoke backstage, with the two talking about going to Burger King to have the new CH*KING sandwich. Later in the week, Riddle sent out a tweet showing the two at the restaurant, with Riddle praising the sandwich and telling Randy Orton he needed to try it. The Burger King Twitter account responded, saying that this is the best storyline in wrestling at the moment. Riddle and Orton have been teaming together since April, though Orton was missing from this week’s Monday Night Raw. Thanks @ArcherOfInfamy for the stallion lunch and @RandyOrton you gotta try the CH’KING ..

WWE Names Top Five Tag Teams Of All Time

July 1, 2021 • Admin

Top of the list. Tag team wrestling is one of the more beloved concepts in wrestling as it gives you double the wrestlers than you would see in most matches. There have been all kinds of tag teams over the history of WWE and some of them have stood out above the others. You can probably name quite a list of your own, and that is exactly what WWE has done as well. Throughout June, WWE has been counting down the top 50 tag teams in history, with the top five being revealed this week. The top five were revealed as: 5. Dudley Boyz 4. Edge & Christian 3. Hart Foundation 2. Hardy Boyz 1. New Day The final group was announced during the fifth episode of WWE’s Top 50 Tag Teams special airing on Peacock over the course of the month. The list has only included teams who wrestled exclusively or primarily in WWE, with teams ranging from the 1960s until modern times. There are some great options out there. Check out the top three: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains..

WWE RUMOR: Surprising Backstage News On Baron Corbin

July 1, 2021 • Admin

It’s good to have a reputation. There are some wrestlers who are not the most well received by the fans. For one reason or another, people just do not like a wrestler every now and then, though that might be by design. Some wrestlers are naturally great at being villains, but that might not be the case backstage. One such name might come as a surprise to you, as he is a rather popular name behind the curtain. According to Andrew Zarian of the We’re Live Pal podcast, a former WWE writer has said that Baron Corbin is one of the most beloved people backstage in WWE. Corbin is said to be easy to work with and never combative about anything. He was compared to the Miz, who has been part of WWE for many years and is willing to do anything that WWE asks of him, no matter what. Corbin signed with WWE in August 2012 and wrestled in NXT until April 2016 when he was called up to Monday Night Raw. Since then, Corbin has wrestled on both main roster shows, where he has won the United States Title..

Update On Sasha Banks’ Return To WWE TV

July 1, 2021 • Admin

Welcome back? WWE is in a big transitional period at the moment, as the company is getting ready to head back onto the road. After over a year of being stuck in Florida, WWE is getting ready to get back to normal touring starting later this month. That is a big jump back into normal and now WWE is going to be doing some special training to get ready. This includes a certain name. According to Fightful Select, Sasha Banks is present at the Performance Center and will be training for a return to touring as well. Banks has not been seen on WWE television since the SmackDown after WrestleMania 37, where she would not speak about losing her SmackDown Women’s Title to Bianca Belair. There is no word on when Banks will be back on WWE television. It would be nice to have Banks back. Check out what WWE could be getting again soon: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’ll be glad to have B..

An NXT Star May Have Just Spoiled His Future Storyline

July 1, 2021 • Admin

That would be one of them. There are all kinds of wrestlers in NXT these days and some of them have not gotten a ton of television time. You might hear of them every now and then but it can be rare for them to actually make an appearance. NXT has a way around that with the Breakout Tournament, though no names have been announced. Someone might have jumped the gun though. According to Wrestlinginc.com, NXT’s Parker Boudreaux sent out a tweet saying “Breakout” following the announcement of the tournament, only to have delete the tweet soon after. While not confirmed, this could mean that Boudreaux will be one of the entrance in the tournament. Boudreaux has yet to debut on NXT television. The Breakout Tournament is scheduled to begin on July 13, though no brackets or wrestlers have been announcedway up to the main roster, it makes a lot of sense to restock the shelves. I’m curious to see how this is going to go and that could be in. The tournament has a lot of potential. Check out some..

KB’s Review: 7 The NXT Way

July 1, 2021 • Admin

WWE is starting to come out of the Coronavirus pandemic and that makes for some interesting situations. Above all else, fans are coming back to the events in less than a month, but they are going to need something to watch. I don’t think I’m breaking any new ground when I say that most of what WWE is doing at the moment wouldn’t work, but what else is there? That is where the cavalry comes into play, and they’re wearing some fetching black and gold. One of the bigger stories to fly under the radar as of late is a group of NXT wrestlers likely being called up to the main roster. This can make for some of the most interesting moments of the year and now it seems that it is time for the new generation to rise up. I have no idea how that is going to go, but this week we are going to look at some of the names who might be on their way to the main roster. Note that most of these are names that could work and most of them are not rumored at this time. Also, I’m intentionally leaving off som..

AEW Dynamite Live Coverage And Results – June 30, 2021

July 1, 2021 • Admin

Dynamite Date: June 30, 2021 Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida Commentators: Excalibur, Chris Jericho, Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross We’re finally back to the normal schedule and that is a very good thing. It’s the final night in Daily’s Place as the show is heading back on the road starting next week. The big match this week is Sammy Guevara vs. MJF, which should make for a heck of a grudge match. Throw in the Young Bucks vs. Penta El Zero Miedo/Eddie Kingston and we should be good to go. Let’s get to it. Chris Jericho is here for commentary. Young Bucks vs. Penta El Zero Miedo/Eddie Kingston Non-title but if Penta/Kingston win, they get a title shot later. The Bucks debut their latest horrible look with some rather thin facial hair. Matt gets taken down for an early rollup to start and Kingston holds the legs for Penta’s top rope double stomp. It’s off to Nick to take Penta down though and the double fist drop sets up some pelvic thrusting. Penta gets sent outside where he..

WWE Confirms Two Top Stars Have Gotten Married

June 30, 2021 • Admin

That’s a special day. Wrestlers have some of the most complicated personal lives you will find. When a promotion is on tour full time, a wrestler is not going to be home that often and it can be rather difficult to figure out how to balance work and anything behind the scenes. It can help to have wrestlers together, and that is what we saw this week in a pretty cool way. WWE has confirmed that Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch were married on Tuesday. This comes after Rollins sent out an Instagram Story showing Lynch and saying that it “seems like a fine day to (finally) get married.” The couple had been engaged since August 2019 but the wedding was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. There are no further details on the wedding so far. Lynch has been absent from WWE television since May 2020 due to maternity leave. She gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Roux, in December and has been training for a return to the ring. There is no word on when she will be returning to WWE televisi..

VIDEO: Mercedes Martinez Hospitalized After Scary NXT Spot

June 30, 2021 • Admin

It could have been worse. There are all kinds of ways for a wrestler to get hurt and some of them can come out of nowhere. You never know when you are going to see someone get injured and unfortunately it can happen right in front of your eyes. What matters most is the wrestler’s health, and that was the question again due to an injury that took place this week. Mercedes Martinez was injured during this week’s edition of NXT. Martinez was in a mixed tag team match with Jake Atlas against Xia Li and Boa of Tian Sha when Li kicked her in the head. The kick caused Martinez to fall to the mat where Li covered her, though Martinez was unable to keep her shoulders on the mat. The referee stopped the match seconds later and awarded it to Tian Sha, despite Martinez pulling herself by the ropes. According to Sean Ross Sapp, Martinez was sent to the hospital for further evaluation. There is no word on her condition or when she could be able to return to the ring. Mercedes Martinez was checked ..
