Guest Stars: Two Big Names Appear After AEW Dynamite To Offer Respect

July 7, 2022 • Admin

They’re not done yet. With so many people on the AEW roster, it can be difficult to keep track of everyone. While a bunch of people appear on either TV show at any given time, it isn’t possible to keep everyone around on every show. Sometimes you see someone show up for a special moment, and that was the case again this week with two of the more popular stars in the company. The main event of this week’s AEW Dynamite saw Jon Moxley defeat Brody King to retain the Interim AEW World Title. According to PWInsider.com, after the show was over, Malakai Black came to the ring to check on King. As the two were leaving, Darby Allin and Sting appeared, with Allin offering King his hand in respect. However, King and Black left without shaking his hand, leaving Sting and Allin to play to the crowd. Opinion: That is something that could be interesting later on and I am curious to see where it goes in the future. Allin paying respect to the House Of Black could mean quite a few things, though I d..

REVIEW: Great American Bash 2004: A Real Burial

July 7, 2022 • Admin

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Great American Bash 2004 Date: June 27, 2004 Location: Norfolk Scope, Norfolk, Virginia Attendance: 6,500 Commentators: Michael Cole, Tazz We had to get here at some point and that’s not the most appealing thing in the world. The double main event will see JBL challenging Eddie Guerrero for the WWE Title in a Texas Bullrope match (totally different than the Montana bullrope match) and the Undertaker vs. the Dudley Boyz in a Concrete Crypt match (totally different than the good idea match). Let’s get to it. The op..

Long Term: WWE May Have Some Plans For Liv Morgan’s Title Reign

July 7, 2022 • Admin

They have a plan for that. Last weekend’s Money In The Bank event was a rather eventful night for WWE. Not only did the company have the show’s two namesake matches, but Miss Money In The Bank Liv Morgan cashed in her briefcase to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion. That was a huge jump up for Morgan and it seems that WWE might have something in mind for her. The Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada is hosting a WWE live event on August 20. The advertisment for the event includes Morgan defending the SmackDown Women’s Title against both Natalya and Ronda Rousey. While the card is subject to change, this show takes place after Summerslam on July 30, suggesting that Morgan could be holding the title beyond the next major event. Morgan cashed in her briefcase on Rousey, following a successful titel defense against Natalya. UPDATED CARD: Newly crowned @WWE SmackDown Women's Champion @YaOnlyLivvOnce will take part in a Triple Threat Match against @RondaRousey and @N..

Pat On The Bank: WWE Bragging About Money In The Bank Success

July 7, 2022 • Admin

They were pleased. WWE runs quite a few events throughout the year and some of them are among the biggest wrestling events anywhere. That means that some of the events that take place can matter quite a bit for WWE and having them be a success is quite the good situation. It seems to be the case again, as a WWE event was so solid that the company is bragging about it internally. Last weekend, WWE presented its annual Money In The Bank event, featuring the show’s two namesake matches. However, according to Fightful Select, WWE was so pleased with the show that they sent out an internal statement to its executives, bragging about the show’s success. The memo bragged about the show being the most viewed Money In The Bank ever and the second highest gate in the show’s history. Also, merchandise sales at the event were up 95% over last year’s, which had been the highest merchandise sales in Money In The Bank history. Opinion: This is one of those things that is worth bragging about as the..

Made Again: Title Change Takes Place On AEW Dynamite

July 7, 2022 • Admin

For the first time. Title changes can make a huge difference in a wrestler’s career as you can see them moving up the ladder right in front of your eyes. It can be the kind of thing that reallys tarts a career in a huge way. That might have been the case again this week, as a young and upcoming star finally got his hands on some gold in some pretty impressive fashion. This week’s AEW Dynamite featured Wardlow defeating Scorpio Sky in a street fight to become the new TNT Champion. The win markes Wardlow’s first title of any kind in AEW. The match came about after Sky cheated to retain the title over Wardlow in their previous match. Sky’s loss ends his second title at seventy days, having won the title on the April 27 edition of Dynamite. Opinion: Wardlow had to win something and this is as good of an idea as they had for him at the moment. He gets a championship and has officially accomplished something in AEW. I’m not sure where he goes next, but lining up one villain in a row to com..

They’re Done: AEW Team Split, Team Seems To Be Turning To The Other Side

July 7, 2022 • Admin

Breaking up is hard to do. There are a lot of wrestlers on the AEW roster and it can be difficult to keep track of what they are all doing. Sometimes it is easier to put them together in various groups and that is what a lot of the wrestlers have done over the years. That can make for some interesting moments, but now we had something else take place as one group is no longer a thing. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw the Gunn Club and the Acclaimed defeat Ruffin It and Fuego del Sol in an eight man tag. The match ended when Max Caster hit the Mic Drop on Bear Bronson but Austin Gunn stole the pin. Following the match, the winners brawled, drawing in Billy Gunn to break up the fight. Billy then turned on the Acclaimed and left them laying before walking away with his sons. Opinion: This is one of those things that needed to happen and it makes sense for the change to take place. At the end of the day, if AEW wants the Acclaimed to be cheered, it didn’t make sense to have them t..

AEW Dynamite Results – July 6, 2022

July 7, 2022 • Admin

Dynamite Date: July 6, 2022 Location: Blue Cross Arena, Rochester, New York Commentators: Taz, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur We’re back to the normal show this week and that could mean more than a few things. In this case it means that we are going to be seeing Jon Moxley defend the Interim World Title against Brody King, which should be a heck of a fight. Other than that, it is time to build towards Ring Of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor later this month. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. TNT Title: Wardlow vs. Scorpio Sky Wardlow is challenging in a street fight. Sky strikes away at the leg to start and gets dropped with a hard shoulder. A low blow cuts off Wardlow but he’s fine enough to toss Sky around a few times. They head outside where an American Top Team distraction lets Sky send Wardlow into the steps. We take a break and come back with Wardlow knocking him off the top and hitting a Swanton. The Powerbomb Symphony is loaded up but Wardlow clears them out without much effort. ..

Up And Down: WWE Gets Some Good News And AEW Gets Some Bad News

July 6, 2022 • Admin

They could use it. WWE has been all over the place in recent months and that should not be surprising. Things have been changing both in front of and behind the camera, especially in the front office. While this has not caused a major change in the on-screen product, it has been taking place at the same time as something different in the arenas. This time around, it is some good news. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE has seen an upswing in ticket sales in recent weeks. While the numbers are not up huge, there is a stronger demand for tickets in cities like New York City and Houston. There is no word on what is causing the ticket sales to increase. At the same time, AEW ticket sales have been down, which is credited to a combination of injuries taking away star power and revisiting markets without much time in between shows. Opinion: The AEW numbers make sense, but the WWE numbers are a bit confusing. At the end of the day, WWE does not have much going on at the moment, with..

Yes Again: More Very Bad News For Upcoming Independent Event

July 6, 2022 • Admin

I wouldn’t call that great. There are a lot of wrestling promotions in the world, with some of them being a lot more well known than others. One thing that they all have in common though is that they all had to start somewhere, because every promotion had its first show at some point. That can be a success or a failure, and we might be seeing a case of the latter in this one. This coming Saturday, July 9, Wrestling Entertainment Series is scheduled to hold its first event at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England. According to journalist Adam Callier, the event has sold less than 350 tickets for a venue that holds 10,000 people. The event has already been postponed from June and several wrestlers have announced that they will not be at the show on the new date. One, the former Nia Jax, has complained about the show still advertising her despite her making it clear she will not be there. Just been told that this re-arranged show, which still has people advertised on the poster wh..

WRESTLING RUMORS: Another World Champion In Talks To Return To WWE

July 6, 2022 • Admin

Another kind of champion. Wrestling has been around for a long time now and there is a history of other athletes coming in to see what they can do in the sport. That is the kind of thing that can make for some interesting moments as other athletes get to try their hand at something else. It has worked for a very long time now and we might be getting to see it again on a big stage. According to GiveMeSport, boxing Heavyweight Champion of the World Tyson Fury is in talks with WWE to return to the company later this year. The appearance, which may or may not be a match, would tie in with WWE’s Clash At The Castle in Cardiff, Wales on September 3. There is no word on what Fury will be doing on the show. Fury previously wrestled a match at Crown Jewel 2019, defeating Braun Strowman via countout. Opinion: This is the kind of appearance that makes sense and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Fury get back in the ring. Fury is at the point where he can do what he wants and if that include..

NXT Results – July 5, 2022 (Great American Bash)

July 6, 2022 • Admin

NXT Date: July 5, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph It’s another special night this week, as we have the Great American Bash. That means we have a stacked card, including multiple title matches. The main event is Cameron Grimes challenging Bron Breakker for the NXT Title, which should be a heck of a match. NXT does well enough with these shows so let’s get to it. The opening video is at a cookout, hosted by Fallon Henley, Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs. Most of the roster is there, with Jensen enjoying the women in the pool and wrestlers making various wrestling related threats. Tag Team Titles: Cora Jade/Roxanne Perez vs. Toxic Attraction Jade and Perez are challenging and Jade takes Jayne down early on. A running knee against the ropes gets two on Jayne and it’s off to Perez to forearm Dolin. Back with Perez and Jayne trading pump kicks for a double knockdown, setting up a double tag. Jade takes over on Jayne’s arm and ..

Two At Once: NXT Airs A Mystery Graphic And Vignette

July 6, 2022 • Admin

Who are you? There are a lot of talented stars in the wrestling world today and WWE has quite a few of them. It can be a lot of fun to watch a lot of them, but at the same time, those wrestlers have to be replaced at some point. That can make for some interesting moments, but one of the most important parts is that you have to get people’s attention. That might have been the case this week. This week’s NXT featured two teases, with at least one wrestler being advertised. First up, a QR code appeared on the screen, telling fans to scan it. Scanning it brought up an image saying “8:10:11”, though there is no word on what that means. Later in the show, someone spoke about his love and skill with math, saying it taught him how to fight. His name was given as Axiom, but his face was never seen. There is no word on when Axiom will debut. Opinion: I’m not sure what either of these things mean, but Axiom looked and sounded a lot like NXT UK’s A-Kid. That is a good thing as A-Kid is a very ta..

History Has Been Made: Title Change Takes Place At Great American Bash

July 6, 2022 • Admin

It makes wrestling go around. There are a lot of titles in the wrestling world and that almost has to be the case. With so many wrestlers around, it makes sense to keep championships active. Despite there being quite a few titles, having a title change hands still means something in modern wrestling. That was the case again this week, as new champions were crowned. At NXT’s Great American Bash, the team of Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez defeated Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne to win the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles. This is the first NXT title for Jade and Perez and ends Toxic Attraction’s second reign at 91 days. Also on the show, North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, Tag Team Champions the Creed Brothers and NXT Champion Bron Breakker all retained their titles. Opinion: You had to have one of those title reigns end at such a major show and the Women’s Tag Team Titles were the best option. I’m not sold on the idea of Toxic Attraction being away from the titles for long, a..

Netflix Reportedly Debuting Wrestling Series, Could Open Door For Major Streaming Deal

July 5, 2022 • Admin

Add it to the list. The rise of the internet and streaming services have changed the way wrestling works. Fans are now able to see all of the content that they want with almost no limitations, as wrestling from around the world is now open before them. This includes even smaller territories, but now one of them might be leading to a much bigger broadcasting deal down the road. According to Fightful Select, a previously rumored deal between Netflix and Ohio Valley Wrestling would include a special behind the scenes show. The deal also includes the rights of first refusal for Ohio Valley Wrestling’s televisions rights. Should Netflix get into the live streaming business, they could be a potential bidder for the rights to WWE or AEW programming. WWE’s deals with USA and FOX and AEW’s deal with WarnerMedia all expire in 2024. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that could be a game changer for the industry. I don’t know if Ohio Valley Wrestling is going to set the streaming world on fire,..

They’ll Meet Again: WWE Planning Grudge Match For Summerslam

July 5, 2022 • Admin

They have a plan for that. WWE is less than a month away from Summerslam and that means the card is starting to come together. The company has a lot to do still, though some of the stories have already been set in motion. What matters is setting up the card in advance and making you want to see the show. That is the case with another match as WWE has planted some seeds. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is planning to have Riddle face Seth Rollins at Summerslam. This comes after the two have been attacking each other in recent weeks, including Riddle hitting Rollins with an RKO after Rollins defeated Ezekiel this week on Monday Night Raw. There is no word on when the match will be set up, though it will be their second singles match, following a match in February. Opinion: This is the kind of match that you know is coming and it makes sense to have everything set up in advance. I could go for the two of them facing each other, as it would feel like a pretty big match. Riddle..

VIDEO: Becky Lynch Was Like An Animal After Monday Night Raw

July 5, 2022 • Admin

Hold tight because the show is not over. WWE has a lot of television content in any given week and that is quite the issue to deal with a lot of the time. Just Monday Night Raw and SmackDown fill in five hours of television a week but sometimes WWE has even more than that. It was the case this week, as there was a little something extra to cover after the show was over. The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw saw Becky Lynch defeat Asuka in a no holds barred match. As a result of the ring, Lynch declared that she was back to end the show. Following the show, Lynch cut a promo on the crowd, declaring herself the greatest of all time and making a goat sound. The match ended a rivalry between the two, which began when Asuka’s return interrupted Lynch’s speech earlier this year. She might be on to something. Check out Lynch addressing the crowd: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of thing that fits well as the wrestlers wrap up the night. Lynch ..

REVIEW: Summerslam 2021: They’re Back

July 5, 2022 • Admin

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Summerslam 2021 Date: August 21, 2021 Location: Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Pat McAfee, Michael Cole, Jimmy Smith, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves We’re back in front of a full stadium and that could make things interesting. Throw in the fact that this is on a Saturday for once and there is a different energy to the whole thing. We have a full on dream match main event as John Cena is challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal Title so at least the big match at the end should be good. Let’s get t..

Team Up: New Alliance Formed On Monday Night Raw

July 5, 2022 • Admin

Put them together and what have you got? There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster and it can be difficult to keep track of all of them. At some point they need to do something to make them stand out and that is not always easy. Not having the right story or gimmick can be quite the mess but now two stars seem to have joined forces, at least for the time being. This week’s Monday Night Raw, AJ Styles defeated the Miz in a singles match. After the match was over, Ciampa attacked Styles, with Miz joining in. Miz and Ciampa then shook hands, suggesting that the two had formed an alliance. This comes after Ciampa has attacked various wrestlers in recent weeks, though the two had worked together in a limited capacity in May. Opinion: I’m not sure where this is going but at least Ciampa is doing something. That being said, this feels like a way for Miz to have a partner to face Logan Paul, perhaps at Summerslam, and there is a good chance that Ciampa takes the fall in the match. Maybe..

It’s A Good Day: Big E Offers Very Positive Health Update

July 5, 2022 • Admin

That could be worse. Injuries are one of the few universal problems in wrestling and there is no way around them. No matter who you are, there is always the chance that you are going to get hurt. Unfortunately some of those injuries can be very serious and leave someone on the shelf for a long time. That is the case again, but now we have a positive update. On March 11, Big E suffered a broken neck during a match on SmackDown. Big E has offered another update, saying that his C1 vertebrae is not forming new bone and there will be another scan at the one year mark of his recovery. However, surgery is off the table and Big E should be able to heal on his own. There is no word on when or if Big E will be able to wrestle again. Update! My C1 isn’t ossifying (forming bone) quite yet. The current plan is to get more scans at the one year mark & see how it’s progressing. The great news is I feel tremendous & surgery is off the table. — Ettore “Big E” Ewen (@WWEBigE) July 4, 2022 Opinion: ..

Who’s The Boss: Interesting Detail On Logan Paul’s WWE Deal

July 5, 2022 • Admin

Money talks. Celebrities have a long history of being involved in wrestling and it makes a lot of sense. Fans are interested in seeing what someone from outside the wrestling world can do there and it can make for some interesting results. That is the case again in WWE with a new signee, and it turns out that the new star has a bit more authority than most regular wrestlers. Last week, social media star Logan Paul officially signed with WWE. During his signing, Paul cut a promo on the Miz, promising that he was coming for him. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this is because Paul is reportedly “calling the shots” with WWE and wants to be presented as the hero in the story. The two are expected to face off at Summerslam following Miz attacking Paul at WrestleMania 38. Opinion: This is one of those things that you do not get to see very often but it does make some sense. Paul is a star and someone who does not need WWE to be seen as a big deal. It makes sense for WWE to let him h..
