WrestleMania Backlash Preview, Predictions And Thoughts

•

It’s time for the followup to Wrestlemania and this time they are making that as obvious as possible by calling the show Wrestlemania Backlash. WWE has run Backlash for years but this time around, WWE does not exactly seem to be putting much effort into the Raw side of things. Smackdown is a different story, but egads Raw is not exactly inspiring me here. Maybe the show can wind up going a bit better in action. Let’s get to it. Raw Women’s Title: Rhea Ripley(c) vs. Asuka vs. Charlotte There is no word on if WWE is going to do what they want to do and bill this as Charlotte vs. the world, as Asuka and Ripley, the champion, have felt like afterthoughts in the whole thing. That is not exactly a shock but unfortunately it is reality, as Ripley already beat Asuka at Wrestlemania so now it is time to bring Charlotte in. Why? Well because it’s always time to bring Charlotte in. I’ll take Ripley to retain here though, as I think WWE knows they can’t just put the title right back on Charlotte..

WATCH: Kenny Omega’s Next Title Challenger Revealed In Thriller

•

Someone has to be next. One of the more interesting stories in wrestling is Kenny Omega as the belt collector. Omega currently holds three different World Titles, including the AAA Mega Title, the Impact Wrestling World Title and of course the AEW World Title. That is quite the collection of gold, but at some point he has to defend the belts. Now we know who is up next for one of them. This weekend at Impact Wrestling’s Under Siege event, Moose won a six way match to earn the next shot at Omega’s Impact Wrestling World Title. The title match will take place at Against All Odds, an Impact Plus monthly special, on June 12. Moose defeated Chris Bey, Matt Cardona, Sami Callihan, Chris Sabin and Trey Miguel to win the match, pinning Sabin to earn the shot. However, there might be a little something to make the match more interesting. Earlier this month, Moose revealed on Twitter that his Impact Wrestling contract expires at some point in June. It is not clear when that will be the case, m..

WATCH: Surprise Title Change Takes Place Over Weekend

•

That came out of nowhere. Titles are one of the most important ideas in all of wrestling, as well as one of the easiest to make work. You can throw a title on the line and instantly make a story that much more interesting, because any fan can understand the concept of someone wanting to become a champion. That was the case on Saturday and now something has changed. Saturday night at Impact Wrestling’s Under Siege event, Fire N Flava defeated Jordynne Grace and Rachael Ellering to regain the Knockouts Tag Team Titles. This is the second reign for Fire N Flava (Kiera Hogan and Tasha Steelz), at Hard To Kill on January 16 to become the first holders of the new incarnation of the titles. Their win makes them the first ever two time champions in either incarnation of the titles. Grace and Ellering had won the belts in their first match as a team at Rebellion on April 21. The Knockouts Tag Team Titles were originally introduced into Impact Wrestling in 2009 with Sarita and Taylor Wilde bec..

WWE Shutting Down New Department Weeks After Opening

•

I guess it didn’t work out. WWE is a global promotion and the biggest wrestling company of all time. They do things that go far beyond the world of professional wrestling and have moved into a variety of other areas. That means that they are going to need more than a few wings to keep everything moving, but now one of those wings is shutting down, not very long after it opened. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has closed down their Talent Management Group. The plan had been to have the group represent WWE stars outside in media opportunities outside of the company, including film and television roles and various appearances. The division was only announced back in November and launched in early April, meaning it was only active for a little over a month. There is no word on why the division shut down so soon. There have been some great representatives in wrestling over the years. Check out what they did: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to ..

Yowie Whereie? Update On Bray Wyatt’s WWE TV Status

•

How mysterious. Every now and then, you see a wrestler show up who has more charisma than they know what to do with at any given time. That is the case with Bray Wyatt, who is such a ball of energy that it is hard to take your eyes off of him. Wyatt’s Fiend character has been nothing short of fascinating at times, but it might be a bit before you see him again. Now we might know a bit more about it. According to Fightful Select, it is not clear why Wyatt has not been featured on Monday Night Raw since WrestleMania 37. Wyatt was defeated by Randy Orton at the show when Alexa Bliss turned on him, but has not appeared since save for a promo the following night. There is nothing to suggest that Wyatt is injured and has seemed fine the last few times he has been seen at Monday Night Raw. It is not clear when Wyatt will return to television. Update On Sonya Deville’s Alleged Stalker’s Legal Situation

•

That’s certainly a change. While wrestlers are characters portrayed on television, there is a lot more to them than just what you see on the shows. Wrestlers have lives outside of the ring, which fans are not a part of at all. However, occasionally you will see fans not be able to tell the difference, which was the case in 2020. Now the situation has taken another bit of a turn. Back in August 2020, a man broke into the home of WWE’s Sonya Deville in an alleged armed kidnapping attempt. Deville and Mandy Rose, who was at the home with her, were able to escape unharmed and the man, Phillip A. Thomas, was arrested. According to Wrestlinginc.com, Thomas has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial and is being transferred to the Florida State Hospital. The situation caused Deville to take take off from WWE, though she returned in January, becoming WWE official Adam Pearce’s assistant and ultimately partner. Deville has not wrestled a match since Summerslam 2020 and it is not known..

WWE “Almost Guaranteed” To Sign Former AEW Wrestler

•

That would be a get. The rise of AEW has changed the way that wrestling works on the big stage. After about twenty years of no promotion being able to give WWE any kind of competition, AEW has come along and offers wrestlers a new place to showcase themselves on a fairly big stage. Some wrestlers have already made the move, but another might be making the move back. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, former AEW wrestler Bea Priestley is almost guaranteed to sign with WWE for its NXT UK show. Priestley recently finished her work in Japan and is currently a free agent who could sign and appear anywhere at any time. Her highest profile runs came with New Japan and Stardom, along with a run in AEW which was cut short due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Priestley has not yet officially signed with WWE. You might need to get to know her. Check out Priestley’s efforts in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post c..

AEW RUMOR: Backstage Fighting Among Company Executives

•

Honeymoon over? AEW has only been around a little over two years at this point, with Double Or Nothing 2021 marking the two year anniversary of their first event. The promotion has done rather well during their time and they have established themselves as one of the hottest wrestling companies to come along in a very long time. However, not everything is going to work perfectly, and that might be the case again. According to the Pro Wrestling Torch podcast, Wade Keller and Jason Powell mentioned that there have been backstage issues between AEW’s Executive Vice Presidents, including Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks. It is not clear what has been causing the problems. Some of the group is said to not be speaking to each other, though it is not clear what caused the issues or which people have the biggest problems, but that might not even be the biggest issue. Powell also mentioned that an unnamed person whom AEW would want to bring into the company does not seem interested..

REVIEW: Spring Stampede 1997: They’re Kind Of Bad At This

•

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Spring Stampede 1997 Date: April 6, 1997 Location: Tupelo Coliseum, Tupelo, Mississippi Attendance: 8,356 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, Dusty Rhodes It’s time to get into a weird period for WCW, as the company is still rolling with the NWO but they need someone to stand up for the company. That would seem to be Sting, but since he has not been in a match for months now, things could be a little more complicated. This is a B show with no Hogan, Piper, or anyone else for the most part and a main event of ..

Here’s Why Vince McMahon Did Not Air An Impression Of Him

•

His opinion matters. While his wrestling company may not be quite the juggernaut it was at its peak, there is no denying that Vince McMahon is still the most powerful person in wrestling today. McMahon has been in charge of WWE for about forty years now and there is nothing to suggest that he will be letting go of that power until he is gone. That means he is still in full control, and that control was on display last week. Last week’s SmackDown was a special Throwback edition, with the show being made to look like it had in previous days. There were also elements from different eras, even if SmackDown had yet to debut in those eras. Prior to the show, SmackDown broadcaster Pat McAfee shot a video of himself impersonating McMahon as he arrived at the building. The video did not air on the show, and it turns out that it was McMahon’s doing. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, McMahon did not want the video to air on the television show as he felt that it was not funny. McM..

RUMOR: SmackDown Star Possibly Heading To Raw For Major Push

•

Sometimes you need to shake it up. There are a lot of wrestlers wrestling in WWE today and that means there are going to be several of them not getting television time. It might be frustrating, but unfortunately it is how things work in the company today. One thing that can help them get a little more attention is to move around a bit, and that might be the case in the near future. According to WrestleVotes, WWE feels that Monday Night Raw needs some fresh faces. With Randy Orton and AJ Styles both in tag teams at the moment, the company needs some new people to have a chance. Two possibilities that have been discussed involve Damian Priest being elevated or Aleister Black being moved over from SmackDown to Monday Night Raw. It is not clear when these changes would begin. Priest made his main roster debut in January and has spent most of his time feuding with the Miz and John Morrison. Bad Bunny teamed with Priest to defeat Miz and Morrison at WrestleMania. Black is currently on Smac..

History Has Been Made! Title Change Takes Place On SmackDown

History have been made! There are all kinds of titles in WWE and some of them have a longer history than others. It can be interesting to see where a title goes in its early years as the promotion is still trying to find out how they want the title to be presented. This week on SmackDown, Tamina and Natalya defeated Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler to become the new Women’s Tag Team Champions.
