RUMOR: WWE Eyeing Celebrity As Summerslam Guest Host

It could help things. Celebrities have been part of wrestling forever and that has certainly been the case in WWE. WrestleMania was at least partially built on the amount of celebrity appearances at the event and WWE has used the same pattern for years. It makes a lot of sense to go this way, and it seems that the same sense will be applied this year at Summerslam. According to Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men podcast, singer Cardi B. will be the guest host of this year’s Summerslam. There is no word on what Cardi B. will be doing at the show or if she will be performing. WWE has yet to confirm the announcement. This comes after Cardi B. had a Twitter exchange with Lacey Evans earlier this year, which led to speculation over a possible WrestleMania appearance which did not take place. Summerslam will be held on August 21 in a location to be announced next week. I can confirm that I was told cardi b is the host for SummerSlam this year. pic.twitter.com/jNQmEMSbjJ — Andrew Zarian (@Andrew..

Surprising Backstage Update On Michael Cole

I’d say he has earned it. There are certain people who have been around WWE for a very long time and it is hard to imagine the company without them. That might not mean they are the most popular, but it does make them a major part of the promotion. One of those names has been around for over twenty years and is apparently starting to get more positive recognition. According to Fightful Select, the WWE locker room has recently become more appreciative of Michael Cole. This includes Cole making a mistake in the main event of the first night of WrestleMania, when he said that Sasha Banks kicked out rather than being pinned by Bianca Belair. The incident was viewed as nothing more than a mistake and everyone moved on, including Cole. This comes amid recent changes to the Monday Night Raw broadcast team. Cole really is good at what he does. Check out some of his moments in WWE: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vid..

Kurt Angle Teases Coming Out Of Retirement

One more time? Wrestling is a unique sport in that retirements do not exactly carry the most weight. There have been countless instances of a wrestler hanging up their boots and then coming back later on for either one more match or even one more run. That is not the worst problem to have, but it is rarely a special feeling. Now another legend is teasing trying it again. Kurt Angle has sent out a tweet saying that the rumors of John Cena returning to WWE have him thinking about his own retirement. Included is a clip saying “so you’re telling me there’s a chance”. Angle, 52, wrestled his retirement match at WrestleMania 35 in a loss to Baron Corbin. Should he return, it is not clear where he would wrestle, after being released from WWE last year. Angle debuted for WWE in 1999 and worked for the company until 2006, when he requested his release and left for TNA Wrestling. Following a ten year run with the promotion, Angle returned to WWE, where he stayed for three more years, including..

REVIEW: Hell In A Cell 2017: Shane McMahon Does Something Stupid

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Hell in a Cell 2017 Date: October 8, 2017 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves It’s time for the Shane McMahon Does Something Stupid Show. The main event tonight is Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens inside the show’s namesake structure as Shane fights to defend his family’s honor. Other than that we have the Usos challenging the New Day for the Tag Team Titles inside the Cell too. Let’s get to it. On the Kickoff Show, Tye Dillinger mentions to Daniel Br..

AEW Broadcaster Caught Using Racial Stereotype On Hot Mic

That won’t go well. Sometimes, a mistake is made in wrestling, just like in anything else. This can be something big or small, but the situation can be made even worse if it is heard by the masses. Sometimes there is no way around it though and that might be the case again, as a member of a wrestling announce team was overheard saying something that will not be well received. During this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite, Hikaru Shida came to the ring for an interview. According to Wrestlinginc.com, Willie Urbina, part of the Spanish broadcast team, was asked to translate what Shida said but mocked her accent in a stereotypical Japanese tone. Fellow broadcaster Dasha Gonzalez gave an awkward laugh and told Ubrina to “shut up” while Thunder Rosa defended Shida’s English and called Urbina “bad”. AEW has not commented on the situation. Shida was in the ring to discuss her year plus long reign as AEW Women’s Champion. She was also presented by a newly designed title belt, as given to her by..

Play It Again? Interesting Note On New SmackDown Name

Play it again? Entrance music is one of the most important parts of a wrestler’s complete presentation. The right entrance music can make a wrestler but the wrong music could break them, which is a lesson that WWE has only kind of learned over the years. There are several ways to present any wrestler’s music, and now WWE might be trying something else. Last week on SmackDown, NXT’s Rick Boogs debuted, playing Shinsuke Nakamura’s theme music. Boogs was back this week and played the song again, along with attacking King Corbin. WWE has sent out a tweet, asking fans which wrestler’s theme song Boogs should perform next, suggesting that there may be more to come in the future. There has been no mention of such a change on WWE TV. Whose entrance theme should @rikbugez perform next? ? pic.twitter.com/RbqAsYyw8C — WWE (@WWE) May 24, 2021 This could catch on fast. Check out what Boogs can do, both on SmackDown and in NXT: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vid..

Here’s Why Aleister Black And Big E. Were Not On SmackDown

Where did they get to? With so many people on the WWE roster at any given time, it can be kind of hard to keep track of all of them. At some point, someone is going to get lost in the shuffle, which can be rather annoying to a lot of fans. That means it can be very satisfying to see them return, but sometimes they go away just as quickly. It seemed like that was the case this week, but now we have an idea of what happened. Last week on SmackDown, Aleister Black made his return to the arena to attack Big E., costing him the Intercontinental Title in the process. However, neither of them appeared in any way on this week’s edition of SmackDown. According to PWInsider.com, this was done intentionally, for the sake of letting the story build rather than rushing through it. Both men were present at this week’s SmackDown. These two could be in for something good. Check out what they can do: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post c..

WWE Announces Stacked SmackDown With Two Title Matches

The night of gold. Title matches make for a pretty easy draw in professional wrestling. Putting a champion in the ring for a title defense is going to get people watching almost every time, as both full time and part time fans are interested in seeing possible history being made. That is going to be the case next week, but in an even bigger way than you usually see. WWE has announced two title matches for next week’s edition of SmackDown. First up, the Usos will receive a Tag Team Title shot against Dominik Mysterio and Rey Mysterio. The Usos defeated the Street Profits to open the show and requested a title match against the winners of the main event. The Mysterios then retained their titles over Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode, followed by a staredown with the Usos. Second, Apollo Crews will defend the Intercontinental Title against Kevin Owens, with Commander Azeez banned from ringside. Owens faced Crews in a non-title match but Azeez interfered for the disqualification, injuring O..

Shaquille O’Neal Announces Return To Wrestling

One more time? Celebrities are a natural fit in wrestling as it can be interesting to see what happens when a famous person come into a different world. This is something that has been done for decades in wrestling and there is nothing to suggest that it will be stopping anytime soon. It took place earlier this year and it might be the case again before the year is done. During the Thursday night edition of Inside The NBA on TNT, Shaquille O’Neal was asked when he would be wrestling again. O’Neal said that it would be “Soon. This summer.” O’Neal did not give any more details than that, including where he would be wrestling. This comes after O’Neal wrestled a tag team match on the March 3 edition of AEW Dynamite. O’Neal’s only other match took place at WrestleMania 32, when he took part in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. O’Neal has done well in his time in the ring. Check out what he has done: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to ..

VIDEO: Impact Wrestling Star Out 12 Weeks With Broken Orbital Bone

That’s never good. Injuries are something that can happen to any wrestler at any given time. Some of them are a lot worse than others and that can make for some terrible situations. What seems like a rather light or mild injury can be something a lot more serious, which seems likely to be the case again with a current popular Impact Wrestling star. This week on Impact Wrestling, the company’s doctor announced that Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE, will be out of action for about twelve weeks due to a broken orbital bone. The injury took place the previous week when Brian Myers sent Cardona face first into a camera. It is not clear if this is an angle or a legitimate injury which will keep Cardona out of the ring. There is a bit more here. Check out the announcement and what took place after, plus Cardona at full health: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not ..

AEW Dynamite Results – May 28, 2021

Dynamite Date: May 28, 2021 Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone We have a special Friday show this week due to the NBA Playoffs, which is some bad timing as this is also the go home show for Double Or Nothing. That means it is time for the final push towards the show, with the celebration of the Inner Circle, plus the weigh-in for Anthony Ogogo vs. Cody Rhodes. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. The arena is structured differently, with the ramp at the upper right hand corner of the ring instead of opposite the hard camera. Darby Allin vs. Cezar Bononi Allin has Sting with him and has badly banged up ribs. Bononi starts fast by sending Allin into the corner and working on the ribs, because he’s smart enough to figure out what a lot of tape means. Some hiptosses into the corner have Allin in more trouble but he comes back with a sleeper to slow Bononi down. Allin takes him into the corner for the flipping Stunner and the C..

SmackDown Results – May 28, 2021

Smackdown Date: May 28, 2021 Location: Yuengling Center, Tampa, Florida Commentators: Michael Cole, Pat McAfee It’s a tag team show this week as the Usos are reuniting to face the Street Profits, marking their first match as a team in about fifteen months. Other than that, the Mysterios are defending the Tag Team Titles against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode because this feud must continue due to reasons. Let’s get to it. The Usos are ready for their first match back but here is Roman Reigns to interrupt. Reigns wants to know their endgame, with Jimmy saying the goal is to win. They want the Tag Team Titles next to Reigns’ Universal Title so they’ll have all the gold. Reigns is behind them and says good luck. Jimmy leaves and Jey looks worried, so Reigns asks if Jimmy is doing the talking for Jey now. Jey says he’s with Jimmy tonight but he’s with Reigns too. Reigns says he should go tell Jimmy, so Jey leaves too. Street Profits vs. Usos Before the match, the Profits talk about how ..

WWE Negotiating With New Japan Over Potential Partnership

When worlds combine? WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world, but they are not the only wrestling company around. There are several other strong wrestling promotions in the world, with some of the biggest outside of North America in Japan. WWE has wanted to establish a foothold in Japan for a long time and now they might have a better chance. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling are in discussions for WWE to become the exclusive American partner for New Japan in America. These discussions have been taking place since March or early April, though it is not clear how far along the discussions have gone. The deal would see WWE wrestlers appearing in New Japan as well. Part of the reasoning behind the deal would be to help prevent stars from signing elsewhere, as WWE could have a bridge to New Japan as opposed to being on their own. According to PWInsider.com, there is nothing to suggest that a deal is imminent, mea..

The Former IIconics Make Announcement On Their Post WWE Plans

Stick around for a bit. There are several wrestling promotions in the world today but, as has been the case for a very long time now, WWE is the biggest and most influential of all. Being a part of the WWE roster can make someone’s career, even if they are not around very long. Two names who have left the company are now going to try to see what they can do without WWE behind them. Jessie McKay and Cassie Lee, formerly known as Billie Kay and Peyton Royce as the IIconics in WWE, were interviewed by Busted Open Radio and said that they planned to stay together after leaving WWE. It is not known where the two will be signing in the future, though McKay mentioned that AEW or Impact Wrestling are both potential destinations. Their no compete clauses will end in mid-July. The pair are former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, having won the titles at WrestleMania 35. Following their loss of the titles, the team eventually split and wrestled on their own. Kay would team with Carmella at Wrest..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – May 26, 2021

Ring of Honor Date: May 26, 2021 Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman Last week’s show felt a bit more unique with a nice mixture of stuff so hopefully they can keep it up here. I’m never sure what to expect from this show, but they have been surprising me enough lately. The match quality has been better as well so maybe they can keep that up too. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay is back, thanking everyone for her support and promising to have another match. We get the card run down as well and we’re ready to go. Matt Taven has been attacked and his ankle is hurt again. The Tag Team Title match tonight might be a little bit in trouble. Fred Yehi vs. Rocky Romero Pure Rules and the World Famous CB is on commentary. During the entrances, Yehi wonders if he is pure or anti-pure, while Rocky is ready for Yehi. They go slow to start with some grappling on their feet, followed by a bit more on the mat. Yehi takes hi..

NXT UK Results – May 27, 2021

NXT UK Date: May 27, 2021 Location: BT Sports Studios, London, England Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Andy Shepherd Things picked up a lot last week when the Heritage Cup changed hands. Tyler Bate defeated A-Kid to win a heck of a main event, and now we could be in for a few different directions. The big story coming up would seem to be Meiko Satomura challenging Kay Lee Ray for the Women’s Title, whenever that is going to take place. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Nathan Frazer vs. Sha Samuels Noam Dar is here with Samuels. Frazer chops away to start but Samuels hammers him with right hands in the corner. A running clothesline is countered into a Downward Spiral into the corner but a Dar distraction lets Samuels toss him REALLY far off the top. The chinlock goes on, followed by a hard elbow for two on Frazer. Back up and an elbow drops Frazer again as the power is working for Samuels. Dar suggests and receives a slam for two and it’s time for some fishhooking. Samuels runs him..

VIDEO: John Cena Parody From The Late Show

Any publicity is good publicity right? Wrestlers are not brought up in the mainstream very often and when they are, it rarely winds up going well. Sometimes it can be better than others, but more often than not, the mentions are not the most positive. Every now and then you find a wrestler who has made it into the mainstream in a more positive light, but that was not quite the case this time. The Late Show parodied John Cena’s apology to China earlier this week on an episode of its show. Earlier this week, Cena referred to Taiwan as a country, which was followed almost immediately by an apology to China in Mandarin, even though the apology did not specify why he was apologizing. The Late Show aired a video, showing Cena’s “full” apology, including captions saying what he “really” said. You knew something like this was coming. Check out the Late Show’s parody: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is a situation where Cena needs to just take what is coming to him ..

The Rock And Chris Jericho Have A Friendly Exchange

They’re two of the good ones. There are certain wrestlers who seem to be leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the pack. You can always see the talent, but it is a special kind of wrestler who stays revered even years after they get out of the ring. It can be nice to see wrestlers offering each other some praise and now two of the best ever are doing just that all over again. Earlier this week, Chris Jericho sent out a tweet talking about how great of an in-ring performer the Rock was during his career. The Rock has since responded, thanking Jericho for the compliments and calling Jericho one of the GOATs (Greatest Of All Time). Rock also mentioned an unspecified incident involving chewing tobacco. Jericho and Rock feuded on and off over the years, including trading the WCW World Title in 2001. Going down the @YouTube rabbit hole tonight and one thing is clear….he may be the biggest box office draw in Hollywood today, but my goodness, let’s not ever forget how GREAT @TheRock was in t..

RUMOR: Possible Dream Match For Summerslam Main Event

I’d call it main event worthy. Wrestling promotions like to hype up the idea of a dream match, even if that might not be how some fans see it. The idea makes a lot of sense: this is the kind of match that you are not going to be able to see anywhere else but it is certainly worth the time and money to see it. WWE might be putting together something pretty close to one for this year’s Summerslam main event. Adrian Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast has sent out a tweet suggesting that the main event of this year’s Summerslam would be John Cena vs. Roman Reigns, potentially for the Universal Title. The tweet said “You can’t see what you can’t believe”, hinting at a Cena vs. Reigns match. Cena has been rumored to return to WWE in July for a potential Summerslam program. Reigns and Cena have faced off before, with Reigns defeating him at No Mercy 2017. Cena has mainly moved on to his acting career in recent years, with his last match taking place at WrestleMania 36 in the Firefly Fun House ma..

RUMOR: WWE Considering First Time Change For Summerslam

That would have been a change. There are only so many ways to present a pay per view, which can make for some interesting situations when a wrestling promotion tries to freshen things up. Sometimes it can work rather well with just a few simple tweaks and that might be the case again with one of the bigger shows of the wrestling year, assuming WWE makes a change. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, WWE is considering August 21 as a date for Summerslam. Should that be the case, it would be the first time that Summerslam has ever taken place on a Saturday. However, this date could be going head to head with a Manny Pacquiao boxing match. Other potential dates are Sunday August 22 and Saturday August 7, though WWE would prefer to hold the show on a Saturday. There is no word on when WWE will announce the date of the show. Update: 8/21 is currently “provisional” according to a source. Pacquiao fight wasn’t official until 5/21, no updates since on document being circulated. 8/2..
