Special Title Match Set For NXT Takeover: In Your House

•

It’s up there. There are certain matches that you see over and over again on a wrestling show, as they make sense almost every time. Some of them are used more than others and NXT is no exception. There are a few matches which WWE certainly enjoys presenting and they know how to build them up. That was the case this week, albeit a little bit faster than usual. This week on NXT, Ted DiBiase announced a ladder match between Cameron Grimes and LA Knight for this Sunday’s Takeover: In Your House. In addition, the winner of the match will be the new Million Dollar Champion, which DiBiase revealed to end the segment. This comes after Grimes and Knight have fought over who would receive DiBiase’s Million Dollar Legacy. The Million Dollar Title was originally introduced by DiBiase in 1989 as his own vanity title. Originally DiBiase was the only person to hold the title, though Virgil eventually won the championship in 1991. DiBiase would later award the title to Steve in 1996, though Austin ..

VIDEO: Surprise Return Takes Place This Week On NXT

•

Welcome back. There are a lot of talented wrestlers in WWE but sometimes they are going to need a little break. With so many wrestlers around, there is just not room for everyone so it makes sense to put them on the sidelines for a bit every now and then. It is not a demotion or anything close, and now one of the more successful NXT stars has made a surprise return. Former NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai made her return to television during this week’s NXT. Shirai appeared to help guest star Poppy deal with Candice LeRae, who was angry at Poppy for causing issues for herself and Indi Hartwell. LeRae and Shirai would brawl, with Shirai clearing the ring. This was Shirai’s first appearance on NXT TV since April 20, when she was interviewed about losing her Women’s Title to Raquel Gonzalez at Takeover: Stand & Deliver. Shirai is back. Check out how she returned and what NXT is getting again: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This po..

Paul Heyman Names Some Underrated WWE Talkers

•

He would know. There are certainly a few people in wrestling who are known for specific things. Maybe it is what they can do in the ring or how they look, but there are others who are better at talking. It can help a lot to have someone who knows how to identify those talents, and one of the best going today has set his sights on some people who are quite good at the promo game. Paul Heyman recently took part in a recent Highspots Virtual Meet and Greet where he was asked who he felt was underrated when it came to their promo abilities. Heyman chose both of the Street Profits, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins, saying that the two of them already had great promos but had not yet scratched the surface of how great they could be. He also described the chemistry between the two of them as “just magic”. During Heyman’s tenure as the Executive Director of Monday Night Raw, Heyman featured the Street Profits doing promos before they had begun wrestling on the show. There is a history here. Ch..

Huge Winner Take All Double Title Match Set For Takeover: In Your House

•

Two at once! We are on the way to Takeover: In Your House this weekend, which means that NXT needs to really start hammering home the card. They have already set up four matches for the show, though Takeover mostly has a five match card. It seems that is going to be the case this time as well, as a major match with more than one title has been added. A six man tag was set up during this week’s NXT, with Legado del Fantasma teaming up to face the team of Bronson Reed and MSK. Legado del Fantasma issued the challenge, but wanted Reed’s North American Title and MSK’s Tag Team Titles on the line. The challenge was accepted and the match was made later in the night for Takeover, with the winners taking all. This could be a big one. NXT Date: June 8, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Beth Phoenix, Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph It’s the go home show for In Your House and there is not exactly a lot of hype around this one. It isn’t a good sign when they have a main event of five people in the title match, which feels about as un-NXT as you can get. Hopefully they have something to build up the show tonight, because it needs the help. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of the NXT Title match, plus a look at some of the rest of Takeover. Surprising Turn Taking Place On Monday Night Raw

•

That’s a way to go. There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster and some of them are easier to present than others. Sometimes a wrestler needs a little bit of a twist to make them work better though there is no guarantee that something is going to work. Every now and then a decision is made that might not make the most sense and now WWE is trying something else. According to PWInsider.com, Jaxson Ryker is expected to be a babyface going forward on the Monday Night Raw roster. Ryker has recently split from Elias and the two will be feuding going forward, with Elias working as the heel. This would be the first time that Ryker has worked as a babyface in WWE and comes as he has begun a new character focused on his former career in the military. This could be a big deal. Check out what Ryker can do: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is one of those things that is likely goi..

Get Well Soon: Monday Night Raw Star Out With Injury

•

Get well soon. There are always going to be injuries in wrestling. No matter how much time and practice a wrestlers might put in during their career, there is no way to guarantee their complete health and safety. As is the case with any other sport, different injuries are going to keep a wrestler out of action for different amounts of time and now it seems to have happened again. This week’s edition of Monday Night Raw opened with a tag team battle royal, featuring four regular teams. A fifth was scheduled for the match but the Lucha House Party did not participate. Instead, Lince Dorado wrestled alone for the team, as it was announced that Gran Metalik was injured. There is no word on how Metalik got hurt or how long he will be out of action. Metalik’s most recent match took place on the May 31 Monday Night Raw. Metalik was missed. Special Return Announced For Next Week’s Monday Night Raw

•

Welcome back. There are a lot of wrestlers to come through the WWE doors over the years but there are only a handful of them who make a big impression. It can be rather fun to see, though like many other wrestlers they are going to take some time away from WWE every now and then. One of those departed wrestlers is on their way back now and we have a date for their return. During this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw, a vignette aired, announcing that Eva Marie would be returning to the show next week, June 14. This will be her first appearance on WWE TV since 2017, though it is not clear what she will be doing on the show. Eva Marie’s vignettes have aired since May, promising to bring the Eva-Lution to WWE. There have also been rumors of WWE pairing her with someone to serve as her muscle. She might make an impact. New #1 Contenders Crowned On Monday Night Raw

•

They’re up next. It is rather easy for a wrestling promotion to present a title match. All you need is someone holding a title and someone else going after it because they want to be champion for whatever reason. That is something any wrestling fan can understand as it is such a simple concept. WWE is going to be trying it again soon and now we have everyone involved. This week’s Monday Night Raw opened with a tag team battle royal, won by the Viking Raiders. As a result, the Raiders will receive a future Raw Tag Team Title shot against AJ Styles and Omos, though it was not announced when the match will take place. The other teams included the New Day, RKBro, Mace/T-Bar and John Morrison and Lince Dorado, the latter of whom wrestled as singles wrestlers because their partners are injured. The title match could be awesome. Check out the battle royal and the teams involved: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vide..

REVIEW: Monday Night Raw – June 7, 1999: It Was HIM AUSTIN!

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Night Raw Date: June 7, 1999 Location: Fleet Center, Boston, Massachusetts Commentators: Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler We’re just one week after Undertaker beat Austin for the title with the help of both McMahons and Austin broken heart due to Owen Hart passing away earlier in the night. WWE Makes Major Change To Hell In A Cell Title Match

•

It does kind of fit. We are less than two weeks away from Hell In A Cell and that means the card needs to be finalized. A good chunk of it has already been set and that is great to see, but there is always a bit more room for improvement. WWE understands this and thankfully has made a change, including covering one of the most important aspects of the entire show. This week’s edition of Monday Night Raw featured a contract signing between WWE Champion Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre. Before either of them signed, Lashley’s associate MVP said that he wanted this match to be McIntyre’s final shot at Lashley. McIntyre agreed, but wanted the match to be held inside the Cell. Lashley agreed and the match was made. This will be Lashley’s first ever match inside the Cell. This could be big. Monday Night Raw Date: June 7, 2021 Location: Yuengling Center, Tampa, Florida Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton We’re less than two weeks away from Hell In A Cell and that means it is time to start finishing up the build. This includes a contract signing between Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre, which is a trope we haven’t seen in at least a few weeks. Other than that, Shayna Baszler continues her issues with an evil doll. Let’s get to it. WWE RUMOR: Future Plans For Roman Reigns And The Usos

•

Keep it going! It has been a long time since WWE has seen someone in the realm of Roman Reigns. After winning the Universal Title in August 2020, Reigns has showed no signs of slowing down and has even expanded his presence on SmackDown. That includes an alliance with his family, and now it seems that things might be sticking together even longer than expected. According to Wrestlingnews.co, WWE has long terms plans for Reigns and the Usos as a unit. The company is trying to accomplish two things at the same time, with the idea being to make Reigns into as big of a star as John Cena or the Rock, while also making Reigns and the Usos into a tighter unit. The Usos are expected to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles and become completely aligned with Reigns by Summerslam in August. Reigns and Jey Uso have been united since late 2020 after Reigns defeated Jey in back to back pay per view Universal Title matches. Jey has ultimately moved on to become Reigns’ right hand man and main supporte..

WWE RUMOR: Vince McMahon A Fan Of Certain WWE Star

•

His opinion matters. While he might not be as well received today as he has been in the past, there is no denying that Vince McMahon is still the most powerful and influential person in the wrestling industry. Anything McMahon does can make a huge difference in wrestling, with a single decision shaking up a wrestler’s career. That can be a good thing and seems to be the case again for a current WWE star. According to Wrestlingnews.co, McMahon is a supporter of Big E. and “will always find something for him to do.” This comes after Big E.’s feud with Aleister Black was abruptly canceled by Black’s sudden release. Big E. has not appeared on television since he was attacked by Black, including after Black was released from the company. There is no word on what Big E. will be doing next or when he will be appearing again. Big E. certainly has done some different stuff in his career. RUMOR: WWE Draft Taking Place Earlier Than Usual This Year

•

Maybe it’s time to change. There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster and at some point you need to change things up a bit. Eventually wrestlers are going to get stale doing the same things against the same people over and over so a shakeup is one of the best things that can happen. It seems that WWE understands this and they might be doing something about it soon. According to Andrew Zarian from the Mat Men Podcast, WWE may be bringing back the WWE Draft this year on Monday August 30 and Friday September 3. The Draft would see wrestlers being moved to and from Monday Night Raw and SmackDown. There is no word on whether NXT will be included in the Draft. This would be the first time that the event has been held in August or September, with the previous two editions being held in October. WWE RUMOR: NXT Stars May Be Eva Marie’s Enforcer

•

She needs the muscle. There are all kinds of ways to present a wrestler and some of them are a lot easier than others. One of the easiest is to put someone with a bodyguard to do their fighting for them. That is the kind of thing that has worked for years and still will today, which is a situation that WWE might be trying out one more time with a returning star. Last month, WWE began airing vignettes announcing that Eva Marie will be returning to WWE. She has mentioned starting the Eva-Lution, but nothing has been announced other than that. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, WWE is considering bringing in an enforcer for Eva Marie, with NXT’s Mercedes Martinez and NXT UK’s Piper Niven as the main options. There is no word on when Eva Marie will debut or when either of them would appear with her. Martinez is currently in NXT and dealing with Xia Li, though they have not wrestled a match as of yet. She has wrestled for over twenty years, with most of her career being spent ..

Likely First Time Ever Main Event For WWE Hell In A Cell

That would be a big one. We are less than two weeks away from WWE’s Hell In A Cell pay per view and some of the card has already been announced. There are still several things that need to be taken care of though and that includes some of the more prominent title matches. Even though it has not been confirmed, we might know what one of the bigger ones will be. According to F4WOnline.com, Roman Reigns is expected to defend the Universal Title against Rey Mysterio at Hell In A Cell on June 20. This comes after Reigns attacked both Rey and his son Dominik Mysterio on last week’s SmackDown. The match has yet to be made official. Weekend Title Change Could Impact More Than One Promotion

That could shake things up a bit. The wrestling world has changed a lot in recent years and a lot of that has had to do with how many more options wrestling fans have. Fans today can see more wrestling than ever before and it opens up so many more doors for them. Some of the promotions today are willing to work together, and a title change that took place over the weekend could affect more than one of them. Kamille became the new NWA Women’s Champion over the weekend at NWA When Our Shadows Fall, defeating Serena Deeb to win the title. The NWA Women’s Title has been used by All Elite Wrestling over the course of AEW’s existence, including as recently as last week’s Double Or Nothing Buy-In show. There is no word on if the title will continued to be defended on AEW programming, though previous champion Thunder Rosa defended the title in AEW. WATCH: CM Punk Talks Putting Robin Williams In An Airplane Spin

It’s one of a kind. Wrestling occupies a weird place in the celebrity world as you do not see wrestlers break into the mainstream very often. At the same time though, you do see some celebrities who know their way around wrestling, as several of them have been a fan at some point in their lives. Now there is a new story of how a pretty famous actor had a run in with a top name wrestler and things got interesting. CM Punk was a guest on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast and told a story about staying at Lars Frederiksen’s (one of the show’s co-hosts) house when actor Robin Williams was there as well. Williams found out that Punk was sleeping upstairs and decided to splash him in bed. Punk woke up and chased Williams down, eventually tackling him and putting him in an airplane spin in the street. Punk did not realize it was Williams until he started chasing after him. That’s one of the most out there stories you’ll ever hear. Check out Punk’s appearance with some other cool stories: [..

VIDEO: Kylie Rae Returns To The Ring, Signs New Contract

Welcome back. Wrestlers can be a unique breed as you can see them come and go from the industry. Some of them will stick around for a long time but others will try to leave but wind up right back where they were. That can make for some interesting situations and it seems to be the case again with a wrestler who has seemingly had some issues staying in one place. This weekend, Kylie Rae made her NWA debut at When Our Shadows Fall. It was announced that she was officially signed to the promotion and would be appearing regularly. Rae teamed Taryn Terrell and defeated Thunder Rosa and Melina in a tag match. This comes a day after Rae successfully defended her Warrior Wrestling Women’s Title in her first match of the year. Rae had been part of Impact Wrestling from October 2019 – October 2020, including becoming the #1 contender for the Knockouts Title. However, she did not appear at Bound For Glory for her title shot.
