Huge Title Change On SmackDown, Two Titles Might Be Going Away

•

History has been made! Title changes are some of the most important things that you will see in wrestling, though some of them are a lot bigger than others. You know one of the bigger ones when you see them and the right kind of change can make a huge difference for everyone involved. That was the case again this week, as not only did a title change happen, but a title might have been eliminated. The main event of this week’s edition of SmackDown saw the Usos defeat RKBro to both retain the SmackDown Tag Team Titles and win the Raw Tag Team Titles. The match was billed as a unification match, though it is not clear if one of the sets of titles will be going away. This match was originally announced for WrestleMania Backlash before Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre were added to make it a six man tag. Opinion: I have no idea what to expect from this as you never know what a unification will mean in WWE’s minds. This is the kind of thing that sounds good on paper, but I have a hard time b..

Big Damo, AKA Killian Dain Debuts in AEW

•

The Giant has arrived. On tonight’s episode of AEW rampage, Big Damo, known as Killian Dain in WWE, made his debut for the company. He would go on to lose in a squash against Shawn Spears. Damo was part of several releases by WWE in June 2021, after being with the company since 2016. He was initially part of the group known as Sanity in NXT from 2016 to 2018, and after a brief call-up to the SmackDown brand in WWE’s 2018 Superstar Shake-up, Damo returned to the NXT brand in 2019 Damo debuted for NJPW earlier this year and has remained active on both the international and American independent scenes since leaving NXT. He also appeared for the Control Your Narrative promotion earlier this month, winning both of his bouts for that company. He is married to WWE wrestler Nikki Cross (Nikki A.S.H.), and the two have been wed since January 2019. Editor’s Opinion: I am unapologetically not a fan of All Elite Wrestling, so I simply look at this as the company not worried about finding its ..

SmackDown Results – May 20, 2022

•

Smackdown Date: May 20, 2022 Location: Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, Michigan Commentators: Pat McAfee, Michael Cole We are about two weeks away from Hell In A Cell and I think that means you know what you’re getting. The big story tonight is the Tag Team Title unification match between RKBro and the Usos, which will probably get quite a bit of hype. Other than that, we have a lot more to cover before the pay per view so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here is the Bloodline to get things going, with Michael Cole saying that if the Usos unify the titles, it will establish the Bloodline as the greatest faction in WWE history. Roman Reigns tells the fans to acknowledge him and then has Paul Heyman tell the people why this night is so important. Heyman talks about how the Bloodline is amazing, including Roman Reigns, who is better than Hogan, Austin, Sammartino and Cena. Tonight though, the Usos are unifying the Tag Team Titles and beating the best team on Raw to become the greates..

AEW Rampage Results – May 20, 2022

•

Rampage Date: May 20, 2022 Location: Fertitta Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Taz, Excalibur, Chris Jericho, Ricky Starks We are less than two weeks away from Double Or Nothing and now it is time for the card to really get hammered home. This time around, that only includes one Owen Hart Tournament match, which seems like a drop compared to recent weeks. The Blackpool Combat Club is here though so let’s get to it. House Of Black vs. Dark Order/Fuego del Sol Black has no time for Evil Uno to start so it’s off to Fuego, who gets taken down into a kneebar. Matthews comes in and stomps away but Fuego gets over to Uno to pick up the pace. Black tags himself back in though and the House cleans itself as we take a break. Back with 10 cleaning house but he can’t get the full nelson. Everything breaks down and Uno gets to kick King in the face over and over but a kick to the face sets up the Ganso Bomb for the pin at 9:20. Result: House Of Black b. BREAKING: Sasha Banks & Naomi Stripped Of Women’s Tag Team Championships

•

The biggest story of the week in professional wrestling has undoubtedly been the events that occurred on Raw this past week. Sasha Banks and Naomi were not happy with the creative direction of their characters that evening, left the Women’s Tag Team Championship belts on the desk of John Laurinaitis and left the arena before the show went on the air. WWE addressed the controversy on Smackdown this week. Right before the main event, Michael Cole said that Banks and Naomi “let us all down.” He would then explain what had happened on Monday night and said that the duo disappointed millions of fans and their fellow superstars. Cole concluded by saying that Banks and Naomi have been suspended indefinitely and that an upcoming tournament would determine the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. NXT UK Results – May 19, 2022

•

NXT UK Date: May 19, 2022 Location: BT Sports Studios, London, England Commentators: Andy Shepherd, Nigel McGuinness We’re on to the next two hundred episodes after last week’s big milestone show. That means things will likely take a step off the gas this week and I’m not sure what that is going to include. Odds are that we are going to be seeing some of the NXT lower card around here, as has been the case in recent weeks. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Xia Brookside/Eliza Alexander vs. Amale/Angel Hayze Amale and Brookside start things off with Brookside being thrown into the corner. Back up and Brookside’s headlock doesn’t get her very far, meaning Hayze can come in and hits some corner clothesline on Alexander. A superkick is cut off with a knee to the face and it’s back to Brookside for a reverse chinlock. That’s broken up and Amale comes back in with a bulldog on Alexander. Brookside tags herself back in and gets Sling Bladed by Hayze, only to send her throat first into the..

WATCH: Bryan Danielson Gets His Leg Trapped At AEW Taping, Needs Help Escaping

•

That’s a different one. Injuries are one of the few constants in wrestling, as you can see anyone get injured at any time in their career. That is not a good thing, but it is a reality that wrestlers have to deal with every day. There are all kinds of normal injuries that you hear about on a regular basis, but this week saw one of the more bizarre instances that you likely ever find. AEW taped this week’s edition of Rampage following this week’s Dynamite. Following a tag match, Bryan Danielson slipped and got his leg caught between the ramp and the ring. Danielson was reportedly stuck for over ten minutes, with a piece of the ramp having to be removed so he could escape. According to PWInsider.com, Danielson is said to be ok after the incident. Opinion: That certainly is one for the books. You never know what you are going to see at a wrestling event and AEW has a tendency to have some unique things. Assuming this is a real situation (as Danielson is clever enough to come up with an ..

Update On Naomi’s WWE Contract Status Amid Walkout

•

That’s one way to fix things. The biggest WWE story of the week has been Naomi and Sasha Banks walking out on the company this week on Monday Night Raw. This opens up a variety of questions, including what it means for the wrestlers’ futures. It is not clear what WWE is planning to do with them at the moment, but there might be a detail that changes the situation for one of them. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Naomi’s WWE contract is expiring soon and she is in negotiations for a new deal, though no agreement seems to have been made yet. There is a chance that WWE is going into negotiations knowing that Naomi will want to stay with the company due to her family connections. As a result, they might be able to offer her less to stay with the company. It is not clear when Naomi’s deal expires, though there is also a chance that WWE could freeze her current deal over the walkout. It is not clear when or if Naomi will return to WWE programming. Opinion: This is one of those intere..

Details On Tessa Blanchard’s Fallout With Women Of Wrestling, Original Plans

•

That could have gone differently. There are some very talented wrestlers in the world but there is often something that holds them back from reaching their true potential. That could be any of several possible options, and unfortunately they can prevent fans from seeing some very talented stars. It seems that is the case again, now with one of the more talented stars in the world. Earlier this month, Tessa Blanchard and Women Of Wrestling reportedly had a falling out, resulting in Blanchard’s relationship with the company and its owner, David McClane weakening. According to Fightful Select, Blanchard is no longer figured in to the company’s plans, including their initial television tapings, which were held last week. Blanchard’s association with the promotion was designed to be a rehabilitation project for her due to major promotions not showing any interest in her. The issues between the two sides began when CBS, Women Of Wrestling’s television partner, canceled a planned tryout mat..

More Former WWE Stars Added To Upcoming Independent Event

It’s one of the important parts. Commentary is one of the most critical aspects of any wrestling promotion. The commentary team is there to tell the fans the story that the company wants to present and guide them on the way. The right team can do all kinds of good things for a promotion and now one of the newest ones has picked up a veteran commentary team of its own. Wrestling Entertainment Series, a new promotion based in the United Kingdom, has announced that former WWE broadcasters Jonathan Coachman and Matthew Rehwoldt, also known as Aiden English, will be the company’s new commentary team. This marks Coachman’s first wrestling appearance since 2018, when he was part of the Monday Night Raw commentary team. Rehwoldt is currently a broadcaster for Impact Wrestling and there is nothing to suggest he will be leaving. Wrestling Entertainment Series’ first show is scheduled to air on June 4. Maybe? Top AEW Star Might Have Signed New Deal (But We’re Not Sure)

•

He’s worth keeping. There are a lot of people on the AEW roster and that is the kind of situation that can make for some interesting decisions. Not everyone is going to be able to get a lot of television time and that can make a difference when it comes to who sticks around and who walks away at the end of their contract. Now we know someone who is staying, at least in theory. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Jon Moxley has probably re-signed with AEW. Moxley debuted with the company at Double Or Nothing 2019, meaning that his initial three year deal would likely be up. This comes as other stars who signed three year deals have had their deals come up, resulting in some wrestlers re-signing or leaving. This is still considered speculation and it is not certain. Moxley is currently set for a match at Double Or Nothing 2022 later this month. Opinion: This would not surprise me whatsoever, as it would be almost impossible to imagine Moxley not sticking around with AEW at the momen..

WRESTLING RUMORS: Who Will Be Taking Stephanie McMahon’s Place In WWE Management

•

That’s a big shakeup. It takes a lot of people to work together to make WWE work. With so many things coming together to keep the company running smoothly, it means a lot to have the right people in the right places. When someone moves around in the higher corporate structure, it can be quite the shakeup throughout the company. That is the case again with some names you might recognize. Earlier this week, Stephanie McMahon announced that she will be stepping away from her position at WWE for the time being, though she is planning to return to her job in the future. According to Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, WWE President Nick Khan will be taking over most of McMahon’s duties. Various business partners were told of the decision earlier in the day. Update On Debuting AEW Star’s Status

•

Maybe later? There are a lot of wrestlers who move in and out of the AEW locker room. The company has brought together all kinds of stars from present and past days, making quite the mixture of available names. Sometimes they need to bring in some fresh stars, but that is not going to be the case at the moment, as it seems a recent appearance was a one off. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Johnny Elite (Morrison/Nitro) appear as the Joker in the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. Elite lost to Samoa Joe in the first round in his AEW debut. According to PWInsider.com, Elite has not signed a deal with the company, meaning that at the moment, this seems to be a one off appearance. However, the two sides may be open to another appearance in the future. Opinion: This is the way I like to see things, as Elite was a nice surprise but not exactly a game changer. He came in, had a good enough match with Joe, and then left without really disturbing anything. That is how something li..

BREAKING: Stephanie McMahon Taking Leave Of Absence From WWE

Back in a bit? WWE is the biggest wrestling company in the world and that means it is going to take a lot of people to run it properly. The company has to have the right people in the right places to make it work and any change, especially at the top, can be a big deal. That is the case again, as one of the most prominent members of the company’s top team is stepping away. Stephanie McMahon has announced that she is taking a leave of absence from the majority of her responsibilities with WWE. McMahon says that she is taking time off to focus on her family and looks forward to returning to work, though no timetable is given. According to PWInsider.com, only the WWE’s inner circle knew about McMahon’s decision and everyone was “100% shocked by the news”. Opinion: This is a situation where speculation is the worst thing possible, as we have no idea why McMahon is leaving. There is every possible chance that McMahon has been working at a high level in a huge company for a very long time ..

REVIEW: ECCW Ballroom Brawl 12: Oh, Canada

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. WRESTLING RUMORS: Bad Sign For Naomi And Sasha Banks’ WWE Futures

Catch you later? The biggest wrestling story of the week has been Naomi and Sasha Banks walking out on this week’s Monday Night Raw. That is the kind of move that is going to have quite the ripple effect throughout WWE as others are going to have to be moved into their slots to fill in some gaps. It seems that has been made even more obvious this week, as WWE has made some changes. According to Brad Shepherd, Banks and Naomi are both off of WWE live events through at least the end of July. There is no word on when or if the two will be returning to WWE television before then. Banks and Naomi are still listed as the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions on WWE.com, though WWE’s official statement said that they left their titles behind when they walked out on Monday. Former WWE Star Ahmed Johnson Talks Who He Would Want To Face Today

There’s a name out of the past. There have been a lot of wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and several of them seem to go away without much of a peep. It can be interesting to think about what someone would do if they had stuck around in the industry and wonder where they would fit in today. Now a star of the past is talking about what he would like to do today. Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ahmed Johnson was a guest on the Iron-On Wrestling podcast and mentioned that he would like to face Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley of today’s roster. In addition, Johnson said that he had wanted to face Sid Vicious or the Ultimate Warrior of the roster from his career. Johnson appeared for WWE from 1995-1998 before leaving the company after a series of injuries. Opinion: I was a huge fan of Johnson back in the day and it would indeed have been fun to see him face one of those powerhouses. Hello And Welcome Back: AEW Presents Two Joker Entries For Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments

•

They’re the new ones. AEW has come a very long way in a short amount of time and a lot of that has been due to the roster of wrestlers that the company has put together. The company has a mixture of established names, up and comers and legends who combine to make quite the roster. They always need fresh blood though and that was the case this week with two surprises. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured two first round matches in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament. Each match included a Joker, or wild card entry. First, the men’s Joker was revealed as Johnny Elite, better known as John Morrison, who lost to Samoa Joe in his AEW debut. Later. Maki Itoh made her return to AEW as the women’s Joker in a loss to Britt Baker. There is no word on if the two will be regulars in AEW going forward. Opinion: For a couple of possibly one off appearances, there were worse ways to go. What mattered here was offering some surprises and these two didn’t many many people’s radar. Elite is so..

WATCH: AEW Star Appears In New CBS Pilot

•

It’s another way to go. Wrestlers have a weird history when it comes to acting. There are a lot of them who are able to pull off acting outside of the wrestling world, but they are often stuck in a role that revolves around them being a wrestler or some kind of a brute. Sometimes that works out, but now a wrestler is getting a chance to try his hand in another kind of role. AEW’s Miro has landed a role in the pilot for a new series called East New York. CBS has released a trailer for the show, which features Miro as a man who has been arrested and is asking for a lawyer. There is no word on if the show will be picked up or how frequently Miro would be appearing. Miro has been missing from AEW television since November, due to a hamstring injury and filming the pilot. KB’s Review: Those Belts Are Made For Walking

•

The wrestling business can be kind of funny, as last week there was absolutely nothing worth talking about for a column, but this week there is one topic that is screaming for a closer look. That is because on Monday, Naomi and Sasha Banks walked out on Monday Night Raw, causing the show to be changed on the fly, with a completely different main event (because they were going to be in the main event) to be set up. So yeah, I think we’re covered for a topic this week. Before we get into the specifics, let’s get a few things out of the way. First of all, there is a chance that this is some kind of a worked shoot story. I don’t think it is, but that is always a chance in wrestling. For the sake of simplicity, we’re going to assume that it is 100% a shoot, even if it might be turned into an angle later. Second, keep in mind that we do not know exactly what happened. We have an idea from what people have said, but there are so many different versions and details that you can’t get a comple..
