One More Down: WWE Appears To Officially Retire Championship

•

It was nice while it lasted. There have been a lot of titles over the years in Wwe and that is still the case to this day. The company has quite a few championships between its three main brands, some of which have some unique rules behind them. In a rare move though, WWE has gotten rid of one of the championships after it had not been used very often in recent months. This week on Monday Night Raw, Nikki Cross defeated Dana Brooke to become the new 24/7 Title, only to throw the title away later in the night. Now the WWE Superstars page is saying that the title’s history runs from 2019 – 2022 rather than “present”. While not confirmed, this would suggest that the title has been retired and will not be returning for the time being. Opinion: I don’t think this is the biggest surprise as the title was literally thrown away (or at least close to it, as Cross missed the trash can) a few days ago. The title has not exactly been active in recent months and it makes sense to just drop the th..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Bringing Back Classic Show With A Twist

•

It’s worth looking at again. There are a lot of recurring ideas throughout the history of WWE and some of them are around more often than others. WWE often adds a prize to the competition, usually in the form of a title or a shot at a title down the line. It can be a lot of fun to hear about one of those ideas coming back and now WWE seems set to bring back another of them. According to WrestleVotes by way of GiveMeSport, WWE is considering bringing back King Of The Ring as a stand alone event in 2023. That would mean that the entire tournament would take place in one night, with no matches taking place on regular television, as was the case in the original pay per view versions. There is no word on if the Queen’s Crown Tournament would continue as well. Opinion: King Of The Ring is one of the few WWE shows that goes away for a long time but then coems back to some pretty solid fanfare. I like the idea of the show, but I don’t know about having it be a full on event. Maybe WWE can ma..

AEW Dynamite Results – November 9, 2022

•

Dynamite Date: November 9, 2022 Location: Aggaris Arena, Boston, Massachusetts Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schiavone We are just over a week away from Full Gear and the card could use some help. So far the main matches are a four way for the Ring Of Honor World Title and MJF challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World Title. Other than that we a few title matches and the finals of a tournament that hasn’t started yet. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Gunn Club/Swerve In Our Glory vs. FTR/Acclaimed Billy Gunn storms the ring before the bell but gets ejected for jumping Swerve. We settle down to Wheeler hammering on Swerve in the corner as the fans are rather pleased with the goings on. The good guys take turns on Swerve, including the scissoring from the Acclaimed, as everything breaks down, with the four villains getting punches rained down in the corner. We take a break and come back with Harwood suplexing his way out of trouble and avoiding a splash in the corner. The hot t..

Interesting Name And Scenario Floated To Take Down Roman Reigns

•

That would be a different way to go. Roman Reigns has dominated WWE for over two years as part of one of the longest World Title reigns in company history. Reigns has dispatched one challenger after another and there is nothing to suggest that he is going to be slowing down anytime soon. Now a wrestling legend has an idea for a pretty unique challenger who could give Reigns trouble. During a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, former WWE and ECW star Tommy Dreamer spoke about Gunther defeating Rey Mysterio to retain the Intercontinental Title last week on SmackDown. Dreamer went on to suggest that Gunther be the man to dethrone Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania. There is no word on if WWE is considering going in this direction. Opinion: While I don’t know about Gunther being the one to take the title from Reigns, a Gunther vs. Reigns match would certainly be worth looking at. Reigns rarely meets someone who can match if not exceed him in size and impact a..

38 Year Old Former WWE Star Wants To Return To WWE After 15 Year Break

•

So she’s in. There have been a lot of returns to WWE in recent months with names coming from out of nowhere after some rather long hiatuses. Seeing these stars come back has been quite the game changer for WWE as it leaves fans wondering who might be back next. Now another former WWE star is throwing her name out there for what would be one heck of a surprise return. In a new interview with Just Alyx, former WWE star Kristal Marshall said that she would love to make a WWE return, even if it is just for one more match. While Marshall, 38, has not wrestled since since 2013, she said that she is in the best shape of her life. There is no word on if WWE is interested in bringing Marshall back. Marshall worked for WWE from 2005-2007 as a wrestler and backstage interviewer before appearing for Impact Wrestling in 2009-2010. Opinion: I don’t know if I can see WWE bringing Marshall back in, even for a one off match, but there is something interesting about the fact that WWE has brought in so..

WWE Has A Special Reason For Running WarGames At Survivor Series

•

That’s a good reason. We are less than a month away from this year’s Survivor Series, which will feature the first ever WarGames matches in WWE history. While the company has presented WarGames matches in NXT, they have never been held between main roster stars. That is quite the change of pace and it turns out there is a very unique reason for the matches taking place. According to Bryan Alvarez’s Super Followers Twitter feed by way of Wrestlingnews.co, WWE is planning “craziness” during the WarGames matches because WWE needs some new highlight footage. WWE’s previous WarGames matches feature several wrestlers who are no longer in the company. There are two WarGames matches scheduled, with one each involving men and women. Per Bryan Alvarez, expect "craziness" at WarGames because they need footage for video packages. The video footage they have is from NXT and most of the people are no longer in WWE. — Wrestling News (@WrestlingNewsCo) November 9, 2022 Opinion: That isn’t a surpri..

WRESTLING RUMORS: Update On John Cena’s Return To WWE

•

He’s a big deal. There have been very few wrestlers in history who have reached the level of John Cena. Over the years, Cena has become one of the biggest stars in all of wrestling and while he is still mostly retired from the ring, it still means a lot when he does wrestle. The question is when that will take place again, and now we might have quite the clue about the answer. According to WrestleVotes in an interview with GiveMeSport, Cena “should” be wrestling at WrestleMania 39 on April 1 or 2 2023 in Inglewood, California. There is no word on when Cena will be returning to WWE TV or if he will be wrestling before then. Part of the reason for the match is reportedly Cena wanting to be “the next Rock”, hence wrestling near Hollywood at WrestleMania 39. Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise as Cena is someone who is likely going to wrestle on just about every major show WWE presents, with WrestleMania near Los Angeles being one of the most obvious options. There are very few name..

WATCH: Another Former WWE Star Makes AEW Debut

•

He’s another one on the list. The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works as there are now several different spots available for various wrestlers. Rather than having WWE as the only major promotion for wrestlers to go to, AEW has offered somewhere new for the wrestlers to go. Some former WWE stars will appear in AEW and now another name has. This week on AEW Dark, former WWE star Sawyer Fulton, now known as Madman Fulton, made his AEW debut, teaming with Ativalu and Troy Hollywood in a losing effort against the Dark Order. During the show, he only appeared under the name “Fulton”. Since leaving WWE, Fulton had appeared in Impact Wrestling as the enforcer for Ace Austin. There is no word on if Fulton will be appearing for AEW on a regular basis going forward. It was a big show. Check out the full episode of Dark (Fulton’s match begins at about 47:55): [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of signing that might be able to lead somewhe..

MJF Lands Major Role In Upcoming Biopic Film

•

It’s a different kind of role. Wrestlers have a complicated relationship when it comes to acting. While they are considered to be acting while on a wrestling show, they are also seen as only wrestlers. That can create a variety of issues, but occasionally a wrestler is able to land a more mainstream acting role. Now it seems that we are seeing another wrestler get an important acting role. According to Deadline.com, AEW’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman has been cast in the upcoming Von Erich Family biopic “The Iron Claw”. According to PWInsider.com, Friedman is will be playing Lance Von Erich, who was brought in as a replacement Von Erich. This is also why Friedman has been off AEW television leading up to Full Gear on November 19. There is no word on when the film will be released. Opinion: That is a major role for Friedman and even though it is a wrestling movie, it is still another foot in the door of some kind of a film career. Friedman is someone who can talk very well and the question ..

NXT Results – November 8, 2022

•

NXT Date: November 8, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Booker T. We are a little over a month away from Deadline and for reasons I don’t quite grasp, Von Wagner is next in line for the NXT Title shot. The good thing is that match is set for next week so it won’t drag down a major show, but we could be in for a rough two weeks. Hopefully the rest of the show can balance it out. Let’s get to it. Joe Gacy vs. Cameron Grimes Gacy, now in regular trunks instead of his full body gear, has the rest of Schism with him and gets knocked into the corner to start. Grimes fights his way out of some quick trouble and elbows Gacy in the face. Back up and Grimes slips out of a fireman’s carry and knocks Gacy outside as we take a break. We come back with Gacy stomping away and we hit the Crossface. That’s broken up and Grimes gets in a knockdown. After stomping on Reid’s hand at ringside, Grimes hits a high crossbody for two. Gacy bails to the floor..

You hate to see it. It had been previously reported that R-Truth had potentially suffered an injury during a match with Grayson Waller on the November 1 episode of NXT. NXT LVL Up Results – November 4, 2022

•

NXT LVL Up Date: November 4, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Matt Camp It’s a pay per view weekend and that means a grand total of very little on this show as Crown Jewel has no connection to NXT. LVL Up doesn’t have much to offer most weeks but maybe we can get in a nice match to take up some of the time. The show is usually at least decent so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Ivy Nile vs. Sol Ruca The fans approve of Nile as she works on the wristlock to start. Ruca trips her down and Nile actually grins a bit, only to have it cut off by Ruca’s headlock takeover. Nile is back up with a sunset flip but a jumpless X Factor gives Ruca two. A rather muscular deadlift suplex gets two on Nile but she is back with an armbar in the corner. The arm is fine enough to hit a side slam and a flipping splash connects on Nile in the corner. Nile isn’t having that and suplexes her over, setting up the Diamond Chain Lock (dragon sleeper) for the ..

WWE Considering Calling Up Popular NXT Star To Main Roster

•

Come on up. There are a lot of talented stars o the WWE main roster but at some point there needs to be someone new brought in to freshen things up a bit. That is where NXT can be valuable, as they are able to hand the main roster some new talent after having them built up in the developmental system. Now we might be ready to see someone come up from NXT. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, there has been talk of bringing Cameron Grimes up from NXT to the main roster. Grimes made a brief appearance on Monday Night Raw last month to recruit the OC to help him against the Schism in NXT. There is no word on when Grimes could be called up to the main roster or what he would be doing once he arrives. Opinion: This is the kind of promotion that would be rather smart as well as overdue, as Grimes is more than talented enough to hang in there on the main roster. Grimes has done just about everything he is going to get to do in NXT and has the experience to be ready to move on up. Let him ..

REVIEW: No Way Out 2008: Double Shot

•

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? No Way Out 2008 Date: February 17, 2008 Location: Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, Nevada Attendance: 15,240 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Joey Styles, Tazz, Michael Cole, Jonathan Coachman We’re on the Road To Wrestlemania and in this case, WWE is embracing the more is more philosophy. In addition, we have John Cena vs. Randy Orton for the Raw World Title, which should feel quite big. Let’s ..

LOOK: Alexa Bliss Shares Photo With Very Different Appearance

•

It’s a look. There are a lot of things that come together to make a wrestler into a complete star. In addition to everything that takes place in the ring and on the microphone, there is also the physical aspect. A wrestler has to do something to catch a viewer’s eye and the look is often the best way. Changing a look can be a big deal and now we are seeing a WWE star do so again. Last weekend at WWE Crown Jewel, Alexa Bliss and Asuka lost the Women’s Tag Team Titles to Damage Ctrl. Following the event, Bliss posted a photo of herself with all pink hair, as opposed to the blonde hair she sported at Crown Jewel. It is not clear when the photo was taken, as Bliss was back to the blonde hair on Monday Night Raw. Bliss has also been announced for the first WWE women’s WarGames match coming up at Survivor Series. ? pic.twitter.com/2MChWVPBgD — Lexi (Kaufman) Cabrera (@AlexaBliss_WWE) November 6, 2022 Opinion: This is the kind of change that can shake things up quite a bit for Bliss, as t..

WATCH: Sasha Banks Trains In The Ring With 47 Year Old Former WWE Star

•

That’s another name. One of the biggest stories of WWE has been the career trajectory of Sasha Banks. Back in May, Banks and Naomi walked out on WWE, forfeiting the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles in the first place. In recent months, there has been talk of Banks returning to the company. In the mean time though, she has been staying with her training and now we can see her doing so. A video has been posted to Twitter showing Banks training with former WWE and WCW star Juventud Guerrera. The video seems to have been filmed recently and shows Banks headscissoring Guerrera. There is no word on when or if Banks will be returning to WWE, though she and Naomi were recently returned to the WWE television signature introduction video. She still has it. Check out Banks in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of thing that gives fans hope, but at the end of the day, it is all about her returning to the ring, which may not be taking place so soon. WWE Crown Jewel 2022 Reportedly Broke An Important Company Record

•

That’s a new record. WWE runs several events a year but some of them are specials that are even bigger than others. Some of these include WWE going overseas to run an international event. This includes a series of shows in Saudi Arabia, which have gained WWE quite a bit of revenue. The events have been increasing another number and this one is rather important too. According to Fightful Select, WWE has sent out an internal memo bragging about the success of last weekend’s Crown Jewel event. The memo announced that Crown Jewel was now the most viewed international premium live event, with the viewership reportedly breaking seven figures on Peacock. Crown Jewel took the top spot from the first Saudi Arabian event, Greatest Royal Rumble, from 2018. Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise as Crown Jewel felt much more like a WWE event which happened to take place in Saudi Arabia rather than some kind of special show. The events have become big successes for WWE, especially on the financ..

How WWE’s Saudi Arabian Events Have Handily Surpassed WrestleMania

•

That’s a big difference. The wrestling world has changed quite a bit over the years and some of those changes have been very positive. It is interesting to see where things go year to year, but some of the differences are so staggering that it is almost a different universe. Now a rather important aspect of WWE’s financial status has undergone quite the change. According to Wrestlenomics, the eight WWE Saudi Arabia events have generated $400 million for the company. By comparison, adjusted for inflation, ticket sales for all 38 WrestleManias combined have generated about $250 million. WWE began running two events in Saudi Arabia annually (one each in 2020 and 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic) in 2018. Thru 8 events in Saudi Arabia, WWE has nearly made 2x as much revenue as they've generated from every Wrestlemania ticket ever. ? First WarGames Match Announced For WWE Survivor Series

•

Lock them in. We are coming up on Survivor Series and this year’s edition is going to be a little bit different. For the first time, we are going to be seeing WarGames make its main roster debut in WWE. There will be two matches on the show with a men’s and women’s match taking place on the show. Now we have a good idea of what one of the matches is going to be. This week on Monday Night Raw, WWE announced most of the women’s WarGames match. Bianca Belair, Asuka and Alexa Bliss challenged Damage Ctrl to compete in the match, with Damage Ctrl accepting. Nikki Cross became the fourth member of Team Damage Ctrl, with one more member to go. Belair and company still have two teammates to be announced. Survivor Series takes place on Saturday November 26. Opinion: As an old WCW fan, it feels so strange to see WarGames in WWE but now we are several major steps towards it actually happening. Just having the matches announced was one thing but now we are seeing the participants getting ready t..

Championship Dropped In The Trash On Monday Night Raw, Possibly Finished

•

That’s it? There are a lot of titles under the WWE umbrella and some of them are among the most well known championships in all of wrestling. It means a lot for a wrestler to win one of them but it can also mean a lot for someone to lose it as well. This time though, someone seemed to have lost a title, though not in the traditional way. She might even be happy about it. This week on Monday Night Raw, Nikki Cross defeated Dana Brooke to become the new 24/7 Champion. Later in the night, Cross was seen walking backstage where she threw the title in the trash without saying anything. While not confirmed, this could suggest that the title is being dropped, possibly as a call back to the WWF Women’s Title being dropped in the trash on Monday Nitro in 1995. The title had been active since May 2019. Opinion: At the end of the day, the 24/7 Title has been around for about three and a half years but it has lost a lot of steam in recent months. The title is almost never seen on WWE TV and is r..
