It was confirmed on Monday Night Raw this week, that ”Mr Wrestling” Kevin Owens will challenge ”Y2J” Chris Jericho for the WWE United States Championship at WWE WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, FL.
Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho spent the most part of the last year as the most entertaining duo on WWE TV. That was, until Owens turned on Jericho a few weeks ago during the ”Festival of Friendship” segment, and a brutal assault took place checking Jericho’s rear end in the hospital premises.
Here’s what WWE.com had to say about the events that transpired at the 2017 edition of WWE Fastlane pay-per-view:-
You know what happens when you slam Chris Jericho face-first through the obscenely expensive JeriTron 6500 during the Festival of Friendship? You know what happens? He costs you the Universal Championship, that’s what happens.
Indeed, that’s exactly what happened at Fastlane last night. Just as the bell was about to ring to start the bout between Kevin Owens and ”The Icon” Bill Goldberg, Jericho’s music and Jericho came on the stage. Goldberg took advantage of the situation as Owens’ attention was on Jericho. Goldberg defeated Owens for the WWE Universal Title in less than half a minute.
In the first segment of Monday Night Raw tonight, Chris Jericho came to the ring demanding that Kevin Owens gives justification for his actions during the ”Festival of Friendship” segment. Owens intimated that Jericho was merely an insurance policy that had reached the end of its usefulness, and only regretted not finishing Jericho off for good.
At that point, Jericho presented Owens with the opportunity to do just that when he challenged to a match at WrestleMania 33. Owens was all too happy to accept Jericho’s challenge, but under one condition: Jericho put the US Championship at stake.
Jericho agreed to the condition and Owens charged the ring to attack Jericho once more, even getting some assistance from ”The Destroyer” Samoa Joe. However, ”The Underdog from the Underground” Sami Zayn came to the aid of Jericho, charging down to the squared circle with a steel chair to even the odds.
