He had a reason. The rise of AEW has changed the wrestling landscape in a positive way, as there is now a new place for wrestlers to go. This includes younger and older wrestlers, as AEW has been a new home for quite a few legends of the industry as well. Now it seems that they wanted to try to pick up another one, but got turned down due to the legend not thinking he was up to it.
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle appeared on NBC’s Ten Count podcast to discuss his wrestling career. During the interview, Angle revealed that AEW President Tony Khan offered him a contract to wrestle ten matches for AEW. However, Angle turned it down as he had recently started his supplement company, as well as feeling that he could not be his old self any longer. Angle was also offered a non-wrestling role but turned it down as well, again citing his supplement company.
There is a lot of good stuff here. Check out the full interview:
Opinion: I can appreciate and even respect the idea of Angle not wanting to perform on a grand stage without being able to do things as he could before. Angle is one of the all time greats but he has been broken down by injuries over the years and there is only so much that he can do. I get why AEW wanted to bring him in, but at the very least, it is nice to see someone turn down the money because he can’t do it as well as he wanted to.
What do you think of Angle’s decision? Who would you like to see him face in AEW? Let us know in the comments below.
