When Thunder Rosa relinquished the AEW Women’s Championship back in August, the rumor mill went wild on her “injury status” and a bunch of other fabricated information. The title has been an Interim World Championship until her return on AEW television.

Toni Storm claimed the belt and became the AEW Interim Women’s Champion at All Out in September. Everything has been going alright since then, but there’s a little bet of a booking issue. Storm is having a good reign, but it’s been a bit overshadowed by the return of Saraya and Britt Baker stealing the show.

A lot of the issue is that the AEW fanbase doesn’t love the concept of “Interim Champions.” There’s a valid argument that it makes the company’s championships a little less valuable. The long term play always seemed to be Toni Storm vs. Thunder Rosa down the line.

However, a new report shared AEW President Tony Khan’s thoughts on the potential decision to strip Thunder Rosa of the championship officially. WrestlingHeadlines reported on the recent media conference call before AEW Full Gear with Tony Khan where he address the rumors whether or not he would strip Thunder Rosa of the AEW Women’s Championship.

The report from WrestlingHeadlines detailed the following from Tony Khan during the AEW media call:

“It’s something we have considered. It’s something to consider. I’m still weighing the pros and cons. Thunder Rosa’s a great wrestler, and it’s unfortunate that she’s injured. It’s kept her out a long time.

It’s not an easy situation and I try to take everything on a case-by-case basis, and am trying to give Thunder Rosa every opportunity to come back and defend the championship. But eventually, you would have to crown a lineal champion.”

Do you think Thunder Rosa should have the AEW Women’s Championship taken away?

Thunder Rosa appeared on Busted Open Radio to address many of these rumors as the speculation about her back injury and backstage issues with the locker room have been swirling around her. As Tony Khan comments on possibly stripping her of the AEW Women’s Championship, Thunder Rosa thanked AEW and its management for understanding the status of her injury.

“I feel like some people are just trying to fish for things,” Rosa explained. “I just want to say thank you to AEW because they have been grateful with me, and they have been understanding of my injury, and they’re allowing me to take my time.”

Thunder Rosa has extended an olive branch to the AEW locker room as well:

“I really want to grow and just put things down and just hash it out. I think it is time. And me, as Melissa Cervantes, I don’t want to have any issues with anybody.”
