Naomi (Trinity Fatu) was forced to relinquish the SmackDown Women’s Championship this Tuesday on WWE Smackdown Live episode after suffering an injury while winning the title from ”Five Feet of Fury” Alexa Bliss at the February 12th SD Live-Exclusive WWE Elimination Chamber 2017 pay-per-view.
Bliss became a two-time Smackdown Women’s Champion after defeating ”Straight Fire” Becky Lynch for the vacant title this week in the opening bout of the night immediately after Naomi relinquished her title.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the injury that Naomi sustained was to her left knee and it reportedly happened while performing her finishing maneuver ”The Split-Legged Moonsault” for her victory at #WWEChamber PPV in Phoenix, AZ over Alexa Bliss. It was believed that Naomi would be able to return to action this week but the injury is more serious than expected. It was described to The WON as similar to the injury that ”The Architect” Seth Rollins recently suffered on Monday Night RAW.
Naomi posted the following update on Instagram recently, noting that she has already started rehabbing her knee:-
No word yet on if Naomi will be back in time for WrestleMania 33 in her hometown in Orlando, FL but she’s not expected to go through a long recovery. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that she could be out of action for 2 months or so.
Naomi has been replaced by NXT Women’s Champion ”The Empress of Tomorrow” Asuka on WWE’s forthcoming live event at Madison Square Garden on March 12th, according to the venue’s official website.
